Merriweather is a better venue and much cooler. Since growing up in the area I have never liked Nissan.

I live 23 miles away and I am unsure if I want to go.

Like others have stated, one road in one road out.

    The traffic is INSANE.

    Horrible location.

Are you fucking kidding me? You live twentythreemiles away. Even if you sit in the parking lot until every car is gone and have a clear open road you will get home before most people that leave before you.

completely agree. you should literally be donkey punched if you skip this one. I live in arlington an it would be MUCH easier to get to the verizon center, but the sound in that place is absolutely horrible. i'll take the parking and the drive any day b/c the experience once the show begins is MUCH better.

True, but it's also smaller, and you still have to fight the Beltway to get there.

Much better place to see a show, though.

Is there any public transportation to the show from DC? Thanks!

The horror stories almost convinced me to not go. I still need to convince my co-worker to go with me. However, that image of the venue reminds me of a different venue (actually, it might be the same one) that I saw Cowboy Junkies in. It was incredibly beautiful with the trees surrounding it. Hot as hell for the performers, but we were on the lawn, and it was just gorgeous. Sound wasn't excellent, but boy can Margo Timmons belt it out. I hope my co-worker wants to go.

Fuck, I just looked up the CJ show. It was Wolf Trap.

Metro will only get you 1/2 way there from DC.

We'll be there too. Make sure to get there in plenty of time. Last time our friends missed just about all of the first set sitting in traffic.

with that said I will most likely find a way to make it work.

  • I am beyond pissed that I'm going to miss this show. I frigin knew something like this would happen as soon as I bought plane tickets to New Orleans. Hope you all have fun! One pissed off dude here :x :x :x
  • LOL - Thanks for the heads up - I'd be pissed if I drove ALL THAT WAY and end up missing the show. Hell would have no fury like this woman scorned

So I guess this means there will be no pre-party - since this venue is in the middle of bum-fuck? Maybe a parking lot pre-party? I know it's still early . . . just wondering.
After an hour or two in this non-moving line wrapped around the venue, a car ahead of us burst into flames or something like 30 cars ahead around a bend. Saw the smoke... then saw it firetrucks. Then I think it was moved by a forklift out of the line. During that whole time the line didn't move much either. It was the only entertainment to be had during that horrible, horrible, horrible, horrible, horrible wait.

My brother in law, having missed their last show a few years earlier at Merriweather decided to take a party van and leave DC with some friends around noon. They got to the lot in plenty of time, and skipped the opening act to drink in the van. Then when Radiohead went on they got out of the van and went up to the lawn. They were all wearing heavy rain gear. Within minutes they were completely soaked underneath, and I think the temperature was 50 degrees. Some people on the steep lawn, when they fell because of the soaked lawn, gravity made them slide down the hill, and then into huge pockets of water. They watched 3 songs, got into the van and went home. Death from being soaking wet in driving rain in 50 degree weather was not part of their plan.
I got scared halfway through that story and stopped reading-

How do I get there from Baltimore or NYC without having to say horrible 8 times?
It can be done.

    Take Amtrak to Union Station.

    Then, VRE train to Manassas.

This puts you 6 miles away.

    Taxi to venue.

Crash at the Hampton Inn in Gainsville, Va. Which is 1.7 miles from the show.

I did rant about the location but after more thought one can always find a way.

    good luck.

I had tickets to see Radiohead there. I got to the parking lot line at like 6:30pm. Didn't get parked and into the show until 10pm. ...PJ also did a "soft opening" there if I remember the last time they played there. Glad they're nearby, but it's the most Eco-Unfriendly and mismanaged venue on the east coast.

Get to the parking lot by 2pm, or risk missing some of the show.

Jesus Christ, I was thinking about the three and a half hour road trip from Phila, burbs....
    No Thanks..

  • I am going to fly into where? And then huh...lol.

What airports can I fly into. how far does this put me away from the venue. I'm doing a fly in fly out next day trip.
  • This venue is a nightmare to get in and out of. I would not recommend travelling to see a show here. As a 10C member that lives in the area, my motives should be pretty obvious, but on the flip side as others have said, it cannot be overstated how horribly managed logistics are with this venue. It is the worst place from a travelling perspective to see a show. Seriously, I used to live in NY and see shows at Randall's Island and this place (Jiffy Lube/Nissan) makes Randall's look like it is run by the people at Google.

Dulles Airport (IAD) is your best choice, only 22 miles from the venue.
  • I'll be there.

Was there in 2003 got there early, and left late, and didn't have any major issues. If you smoke weed, or eat brownies or something, it helps pass the time of being stuck in traffic.

I'm actually glad the show is in Bristow. The last three times I've seen PJ in DC (2004, 2006, 2008) was good, but...the sound at the Verizon Center is some of the worst I've ever heard. I saw them in 2003 (in Bristow), and while the set list wasn't my favorite, the sound was leaps and bounds better, and at the end of the day that's what matters.

This is the only pj show near me and I refuse to be bummed out by this thread.

(or by the pit all together. Things get so negative around here come tour time)

chillax freak. i was just pullin the guys' leg. btw his excuse had nothing to do with a babysitter, and everything to do with the fact that he did not want to travel the one road in to the venue. Hahaha... I made the news on that one. They grabbed a quote from someone on a petition I started, that got about 500 signatures.

    http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/dc_radiohead/

    http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/dc_r ... signatures

"One online petition signed by more than 350 people calls for another Radiohead show in the market, with such comments as, “I would ABSOLUTELY want to attend another DC/Baltimore show — as long as its not at Nissan!! The offer that Nissan provided me of free lawn tickets to the Camden, N.J., show is insulting! For one, I had pavilion seats. Two — its Camden, NJ!!”"

I also sent a letter to their tour management at a show a few days later, which Nissan Pavilion had mentioned that they received (without my asking).

I wish PJ saw this petition before booking, but I'm sure they'll get paid more to play at this venue, as it's run solely by Live Nation.

    I'll be at this show...

I also went to the Radiohead disaster show and swore I would never ever go back to that venue except for PJ. I almost wanna skip it and go to the MSG shows instead...hell it's almost the same commute from DC if you factor in the mismanaged parking. Worst venue I have ever been to, but PJ coming to town is never a bad thing! See you there!

you should be fine. just get a place to stay after the show so you aren't driving back so late.

last time I was there, for DMB, I left right before the encores and got out fine, there were thousands of people leaving at the encore just to get the heck out of that parking situation. Of course, I won't be leaving early at the PJ show.

With no traffic that gets you there around 2pm. With traffic, it might add a few hours, but you'd still be before most of the crowd. You'll probably be very much ok.

If my co-worker won't go with me, or if I'm shut out of tenclub tickets, I have a backup plan - YARN and KNITTING! I'm knitting as many Christmas gifts this year as possible, and I already finished kniting one. For now I have a knitting tangent as my co-worker is having a baby, and I have some very happy happy color yarn to make a blanket :D

Its cool to have multiple things to make me happy. I wish PJ was closer, but maybe this is a sign to work on my Christmas knitting.

The Radiohead show at Bristow was about the same date in May as this PJ show, and with the cold crazy weather, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a repeat.

If anyone wants to hear an hour-by-hour recap of someone else's experience trying to enter this venue, below is an interesting read:

    Perhaps, but plan for it.

It would be awesome for the band to move the show to DC proper, where there is TONS of mass transit, and excellent movement of traffic, but I think Live Nation probably offers them more money to play at this venue, which they run exclusively.
