I consider myself a Christian but most Christians don't really even know what it means to be a Christian.they practice Roman catholicism which is essentially paganism.

You obviously don't know much either if you think catholicism is paganism, and i'm not even catholic. A little respect on both sides is all it would take to end ridiciulous little comments like this. Right, they worship mary, right they are pegans. Protestants constantly show how little they truly know about christianity.

    I can't help it. I'm sorry. I guess atheist = dick. :)

I liked your other phrase. What was it...? dickdouchery. That cracked me up.

Yeah, I was hoping I could have convinced all the believers to abandon their faith by now. I can't understand why it hasn't happened yet. It worked on my dog. She doesn't go to church anymore.

How about this? I'll give my DC poster to anyone who can prove God exists. That should get this thing settled pretty quick.

I can certainly be a "believer" dick as well, earlier in the thread I made someone question why they even come to the board anymore. So I think the equation is human = dick. Or at least Pearl Jam fan = dick.

For the record, I prefer douchedickery. Sounds better (to me).

I have only argued for my position because atheists are loathed and persecuted by the vast majority of people in this country. For no good reason. We can be good people, great people, but you paint a portrait of lost, dark, depressed assholes.

Most of us non-believers would be more than happy to let you believe whatever you want in private, but you bring your nonsense into schools, into the minds of children, and into the White House. That affects us and makes us angry. Whereas our atheism does not affect your daily life in any way.

Well, other than prompting you to call people names.

No he's probably not, but I don't think I'm perfect.

You've done a lot more than just argue your position. There are plenty of atheists in this thread that are just arguing their position. You've been a douche. I'm sorry if that's namecalling..but it is what it is. Basic idea here, if you don't like being told you're being a douche..don't be one. It's really simple.

And as far as religion affecting your life...one of our founding fathers said..

So in other words, tough shit. Head over to China if you want a secular nation.

You have been a great example of how one argues their opinion w/o being a condescending asshole.

    Thank you for that.

Now I'm getting out of this thread b/c EvilRabbit is causing me to sink to his level. I should know better.

Sounds like some Texans I know who tell you to leave if you don't like it. Well what if I want to stay and try to change it to a place I like better. Anyways i thought we were a Secular nation. You are free to believe in what you want, as long as that does not involve harming others, like the Polygamists group here in Texas APPEARS to have been doing.

Bottom line: C'mon... even Christians have to admit... 'Christian rock' makes Jesus cry... that's how bad it is.

He he. I don't know, I think you guys get beaten by 9-11 conspiracy theorist circle jerks (again, please don't start that debate up, I will fucking ignore it, I'm SO done with it). I would get roped into a dumbass argument and every other post was "Man, you really showed them!" "Great point!" "We're so much smarter than they are!" "I can't believe these assholes believe everything the gov't tells them!"

Once again, I'm just stating my own personal experience here. There's plenty of other places to debate that shit (and they get 50 times more stupid and circular as this could ever get).

On a side note, I'm not even OPENING the new "Pearl Jam Catholics" thread. Looks like we got some competition, guys!

Much love to all PJ fans, of faith and of no faith. I'm out.

Okay, one last agremeent. My parents listen to Christian Rock and I just want to gouge my ears out. Everything sounds exactly the same! I wouldn't listen to a Christian Rock station for the same reason I wouldn't listen to an all metal station (and I loves me some metal). There's only so many songs you can listen to about the same goddamn thing.

How is it that religion for 100s of years can be responsible for some of the greatest and most beautiful music every written, then flush all down the drain in 20-30 yrs with some of the worst shit ever.

I hate to end it on that note, but I'm out.

Can't be bothered going into details? Considering you have previously posted statements demonstrating that you do not understand what the big bang theory applies to,I have a hard time accepting that most of what I posted was BS, just because you said so.

However, I can agree that it is very humbling when we consider the vastness of the known universe. But also understand that the same principles of scientific practice that guide all other areas of science also guide astronomy.

Astronomy, and the big bang theory (which is a cosmological theory supported by astronomical evidence), are not wild stabs in the dark- they are backed by substantial amounts of scientific evidence, even if you don't want to look at it.

Someone on the other side of the debate could just as easily offer the same reward for proof that he doesn't.

what i was saying isn't wrong, you are just confused and don't know what i meant.Catholics go about their worship thinking they are paying homage to the God in the Holy Bible, but their practices are just mirrored pagan practices.

like what does a Christmas tree have to do with the birth of Jesus?not a dam thing! but pagans worshiped trees.it's a pagan practice that many obliviously think is a Catholic/Christian practice.

ADD: Easter Sunday occurs on the First Sunday... after the First Full Moon... after the Spring Equinox. If that ain't Pagen... then, Jesus' Resurrection must have something to do with bunnies, baby chickens and painted eggs (fertility symbols or what?).

And it's not a knock on Christianity or Catholics. The fledgeling religion needed recruits. What better way than to convert the ones who didn't believe in the deity system? It makes perfect sense.
Couple Christianity with the two biggest events of the year... the Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox. Remember, these Pagens were pretty basic people... Winters killed them. They'd run out of food or freeze to death. That's why Spring is so important... rebirth, hopes for fertile grounds for their crops... fertile livestock for food... fertility, fertility, fertility. Orbs hung on the tree... fertility. Springtime... bunnies... eggs... fertility. all of those rituals that Western culture associates with Christmas and Easter center around surviving the Winter and FERTILITY.
I just find it a bit odd that Christians fail to acknowledge this... it's no big deal. We all know there is never a mention of trees and garland and fertility bulbs and bunnies and painted eggs in the Bible. Just accept it that in order to grow in numbers... early Chrisitanity needed converts. Those converts were the Pagans... who clung to their ancient riutuals. No big deal.
I guess it's because Christians tend to be uptight about sex... the thought of fertility being attached to their Saviour might be the reason. But us... Pagans... we don't care. We happen to like candy canes and chocolate bunnies and Peeps... and the time off work.
