If so, can you please give an explanation for the Sunday 10C seating debacle?

Here is why you need to do this: people are really pissed. MANY, MANY people traveled to that show, and got upper deck, way in back seats, when day of show there were decent seats on TM. Trust me, NO ONE around me in 303 was happy. They may not be posting their disappointment here, but there were a lot of very unhappy people. This incident tends to throw into doubt any reason to travel to ANY show with 10C tickets. Put yourself in the shoes of the people who traveled for days and spent hundreds if not thousands of dollars. Imagine going into the venue, up three escalators, and out to your seats, and realizing that 95% of the people in the building had better tickets. You can't blame people for being pissed. These are hard core fans, not someone who liked "Alive" fifteen years ago and are checking PJ off their band bucket list.

If the explanation is that someone fucked up, fine. Just let everyone know that this is *not* going to be what to expect going forward.

sure. Your member number 415XXX, for a show like Chicago, NYC, Jersey, Boston, or LA will put you in the back. or up top. Go to Salt Lake City, Virginia Beach, Vancouver, Portland or any other small market city and you'll be about 15-20 rows from the front with that number. Seats are allocated by seniority (except for the lottery rows 1-2 and 9-10...anyone could get those).

    First, thanks for responding.

As you can see by my username, I USED to be 169704. Yes, I let it lapse. My fault.

    Here is are my beefs:

    1) There needs to be some cutoff of 10C tickets BEFORE they get to the point in any venue that they are much worse than Ticketmaster average. I would guess that if you surveyed 10C members, they would rather get shut out of the 10C sale for a show and have the opportunity to try either TM or some other method, than to be unknowingly stuck in the rafters in the back of a huge arena. Especially when TM had tickets available all along that were better in most cases than a large number of 10C tickets. As someone pointed out, for a die hard fan, there are always ways to get tickets, but if you are going TM or a broker, you get to CHOOSE whether you'd rather take nosebleed or sit at home watching DVD's and drinking cheap beer.

    2) The entire "we aren't going to tell you your ticket location until day of show" is totally useless. What is the point? To keep people from scalping them? They do anyway. It is a fact of life. If you don't want to reveal the exact locations, at least have some kind of alert that lets people know they were given back of the bus seating and they may not want to bother traveling 1000 miles to see the show. Obviously there is a judgment call as to what is a crappy seat and what isn't, but I don't think anyone would argue that third level all the way in the back of the United Center is a seat worth traveling for. Unfortunately, THOUSANDS of fans did just that.

You still have time to prevent a similar debacle in Philly. If, as we all suspect, there will be 10C seats in the upper rafters there, you should tell the affected people NOW, before they spend $$$$ traveling to Philly with the expectation that they well have halfway decent seats.

What incentive do I have to continue with 10C when the seats we get are much, much worse than we would have had through TM? Because I accidentally let my number lapse, there is virtually no chance of ever getting a better seat than I can get through TM. As you certainly know, as time goes on, more people are members of 10C, and thus even if I keep the membership another five years I am unlikely to ever get a decent seat, because the members ahead of me are always going to be ahead of me.

BTW, thanks for STABBING me with the SLC thing. BECAUSE I HAD 10C SEATS FOR CHICAGO 1, I skipped the SLC sale. Hey, I've got seats for Chicago, why do I need SLC? I don't have the cash to wander around to multiple shows looking for a great seat. I thought I was covered, as I suspect many others did. Now, of course, 10C for SLC is long gone, and TM for SLC has been on sale for weeks.

So you jumped the gun and bought tix as soon as they announced? It's people like you that made all the 10c seats that much worse. I have no problem with people goin to as many shows as possible, but it seems like everybody woulda been alot closer if everybody that JUST HAD to travel for the Chicago show woulda just been patient and waited for shows in their neck of the woods.

Turned out that wasn't the case. The guy with the "low 100s" number who spent yesterday bleating on here actually has a mid-400s number.

It seemed to be the case for some people. In section 318 I talked to 2 different people who joined in 1999. I don't know what their numbers were, but they should have been better than to be stuck up in my section (with my 404xxx number).

At the time Chicago 1 was announced, it was the only show on the tour.

I live in Denver. What is "my neck of the woods?" SLC is an 8 hour drive, and that was announced over a month after Chicago 1. What about people from FL, TX, etc? Chicago *is* their local show, because it has the most flights available.

I pity you SLH, you've got a crap job and you can never make everyone happy. Anyway, your insights on this thread have made reading it all worth while. Keep up the good work! :D

On a related note, I don't get why "everyone" thinks of the 10C as a ticket club. I joined primarily because I'm a fan of the band. I like getting the singles and magazines and that's it. The band hasn't come to my country for 11 years, so the preferential ticketing doesn't have much to do with it (I did get to use it in Oz in 06 however). The thing I hate about other bands fan clubs is people join on tours just to get access to presale tickets (and those presale tickets are usually scattered through the building). I'd hate for 10C to end up like that.

P.S. Will we see you in the box office in NZ? At least you won't have to worry about people complaining about their rubbish seats. Since it's GA, they'll have nothing to complain about! Oh wait... ;)

We were all warned the Philly tickets would include some nosebleeds, so we shouldn't be surprised when it happens. I found the sound was a lot better in Section 105 in the United Center than it was at row 15 off the floor. I had more fun at the back of the United Center with my non-fan club tickets than my awesome fan club seats for night one. Chalk this up to a lesson learned that at large markets you aren't going to get the greatest seats with 350xxx.

To be in the fan club for the band you apparently like. I joined in '97 because I was a fan of the band and not for tickets. I liked the xmas vinyl, the newsletter, and now the access to tour merchandise. If you view the fan club as an outlet for tickets, then maybe you got the seats you deserved.

I like the band before 97 dude
  • Well, when you look into the fan club and what it offers, the very first thing they pump up is the ticket perk, so obviously the fact that they have tickets available is a main selling point of joining the club. I imagine if they stopped offering the tickets, the fan club membership would drop by 60%+.

That was a good burn, Santos. Put these whiny punks in their places!

To SL169704 and all the other babies:

Do you not care that Pearl Jam always goes to bat for the fans to TRY to get them the best seats? Are you just gonna complain about how you got stuck with seats that you didn't like? That is pretty lame. You got to go see Pearl Jam in Chicago. You, like I, bought tickets when they went on sale. Philly and Chicago were the closest to me and I chose Chicago because I love Chicago. You should have known that since only a couple of shows were announced that EVERYONE would be trying to get tickets to the same ones for which we were trying.

That should have stuck in the back of your head: There is gonna be a lot of 10C fans at these shows. I know I kept reminding myself of that. It seems the difference between you and I, though, is that you think you are entitled to something while I'm just glad to be at the show. Fuck where I'm sitting. I would have sang every song like I did just as loud as I did. Granted, Ticketmaster can't give all the good seats to the fans. They have to make money, too. I am not condoning Ticketmaster in anyway. I just don't think that you should be unhappy over your seats because at least you were in the building. They put on an awesome show and my girlfriend and I were happy to attend.

Wait, are you the asshole who tried to take my girlfriend's seat after Bad Religion left the stage? Some jackass thought it would be cool to try and snake a seat cause it was 6 seats closer than his.

    Also...
I am a pretty observant guy and while I was standing in line for tickets, I noticed that there were not too many friendly people to be found. Pearl Jam is a band that urges the spread of peace and love toward your fellow man but some of you fuckers don't get the message. Some of you think that seeing Pearl Jam from a close proximity is like a fucking status symbol or something. I saw people that picked up their tickets and walked away like spoiled fucking children ready to rub it in someone's face. The guy that walked up behind me whilst waiting for tickets started talking with me and he seemed pretty cool until we got to the front of the line and he nonchalantly stepped in front of me. I let it go because, as Gandhi said, "you must be the change you wish to see in the world." It saddens me that people can be so self-absorbed and unfriendly at a rock show. I'm from West Virginia and while walking through the United Center, I saw someone who had on a West Virginia University hoodie. I gave him a "Woo" in support and he looked at me like I was an alien. Where is the camaraderie that comes from sharing the same interest with a group of people?

    Holy smokes!

Here is the touringfans.net data. Almost 8,000 Ten club seats. That is half the arena. Of course Ten Club doesn't get the top 8,000 seats. If your number was 335,XXX or worse you got seats in the upper section. That appears to be roughly 20% of Fan Club members who got Ten Club seats.

This information might not make those who sat up top any happier, but should at least explain the challenges the Ten Club had with the unprecedented amount of seats that they got.

So the statement that people who joined the club in 1998 got bad seats seems to be bullshit. At least according to this sample size.
