    WOW !
Had my first infusion of Steroids earlier today at 9:00 am.
Came home tonight, was feeling extra achey - more than usual.
    Tested my blood sugar -
came back dangerously high at 470 !

    Get the insulin, STAT!

Off to Columbia shortly for my second infusion of Steroids.
My sugars been thru the roof all night, first 507, took insulin,
came down to 315, took more insulin , woke up to 206.
The next few days should be fun, insulin overdrive.

    Hey everybody!
Been hospitalized for administration of high potency Solumedrol ( steroids )to thwart the rejection of my new kidney. As a result of the medicines, my blood sugars are again thru the roof ( >500 ).
However the docs assure me there will be complete reversal of the rejection.
Thank you all for the well wishes!
Fight to get it back again !

    Still in the hospital.
    This is my 5th day.
Normally, I thoroughly enjoy roller-coaster rides, but this is another story.
Waiting on bloodwork results which usually don't return until after 12:30pm, so now it's a waiting game as well .
My bloodsugars seem to have stabilized with the tapering off of the steroids, so that's another positive.
One of the Kidney Transplant Team doctors came in this morning and started asking me aboutmy Dialysis history, which has totally freaked me out , to epic proportions .I asked him- " Why are you asking me all of this ? You're scaring the shit out of me...."
He insisted it was just to get my history- but he doesn't know I am in Health Care, and it left a very uneasy feeling in my gut.
At this point, I have no choice but to press forward and put all of my trust in these doctors hands, and hope that whatever Gods plans are for me, that I can handle it all.

First off, I want to thank all of the kind people here on the PEARL JAM MESSAGE BOARDS. You've all engaged me through all of this mess and followed along with my progress and sent many good thoughts and well wishes my way, along with lots of good karma.

    OK
Things are moving along quickly again.
It's "peak" time on the roller coaster, I'm being discharged this afternoon, with new prescriptions for steroids and another for anti-anxiety. Go figure.
I'll keep you all posted after Thursdays bloodwork.

    Thanks everybody !

Columbia-Pres called me at approx 430 PM today - just before the weekend.
Creatnine levels have FINALLY come down to desired levels-- 1.6 ( my baseline )
    and increased my anti-rejection Prograf.
Things are finally looking and feeling good.!

The rejection has been reversed, and all the lab #s have come down to an acceptable value.
I am still taking steroids along with a plethora of other medications, ( anti rejection , immuno-suppresants, ect ) but everything seems to be doing what they are supposed to , so no complaining there. Also , no matter how many pills I need to take, its still better than having to go to dialysis 3 x / week .
Hopefullly, I will be able to return to work soon. The problem with that is, I work in a hospital , with sick and possibly infectious people, so we have to be extra cautious for the sake of my new , 3rd kidney.

    Thanks everybody !

    Congrats, Bathgate. Great to hear.
And just to update AB and the few others that knew, I returned home last night from CPH NYU with a transplanted liver. I feel great and it's great to be back.
I knew that all here would be pulling for me and hoping for success. The icing on the cake came when for the last 3 days, my nurses name was Jamily.
So remember, become an organ donor.

HollisBrown : This is fantastic news !
CPH have got some really brilliant doctors ,
and the rest of the respective transplant teams are great also.
Did you have a living donor ?
& Are you on a full anti -rejection regimen ?
    All the best man.
    Stay positive
    and feel good !

Creatnine levels have seemed to have stabilized at 1.6 ( my personal baseline ) .
Prograf levels have been lowered from 24MG to only 21 MG daily,
    but now they want 7 MG / every 8 hours, ( 3 x day )
    as opposed to 12 MG every 12 hours. ( 2 x day ) .
Apparently the time in between doses affects the blood levels of Tacrolimus.
thus requiring the tweeking of the doses .

    wow...

at least they decrease the prograf/tacrolimus dose after 3 months. though doses can fluctuate anytime

target tacrolimus blood levels (aka FK-506) are 10-14 for the first 3 months, after that it's 5-10. mine is usually around 6 or 7....with taking 7.5 mg every 12 hours
