All Concerts Should Be Lottery

  • I am 26. I joined the TC in 2000 and I was in highschool, I was broke, an idiot, and enjoying life...I forgot to renew, TWICE. I could have a better number, but oh well...I enjoy the shows no matter where I am.

I was lucky enough to get into the show at The Vic...I think this was easily the best show I will ever see in my life and I am very thankful that I got in. One of the coolest things about the concert for me was this kid next to me. I met him in line and he was maybe 18. He knew all the words (like me) and was having a blast. To see someone younger than me, rocking out, knowing and discovering this great band, and having the time of their life, was sweet.

That Kid, and myself, NEVER would have got into that show with seniority...

I have TC tickets for the upcoming Chicago shows, I'll be in the back of the floor, but I will be having one hell of a time...staring at older people who were raised better than me, I guess.

I would love to see a lottery system used for the first 10-15 rows...

I dont care how long you have been a member, or how you have "paid your dues".....

Give everyone, young and old, a chance to get up close..............

I dont see your argument though SPEEDY, up until not to long there was no chance to be up front AT ALL if you had a shitty number, now they've implemented the lottery on rows 1&2 and 9&10... but people always want more and more and more ... now its the first 15 rows, next time will be the whole floor should be lottery :S
People will always have something to whine about.

I joined in 1993, I dont even remember that we had a number back then and when we finally did it didnt really matter that much anyways because most of the gigs were GA... my membership lapsed in late 1998 (which I will blame on my ex-husband) and I renewed on 2000, so its not like I'm here talking like someone that sits in first row.
Mind you if we had 15th rows of lottery maybe I would be closer in some venues (like in the NE), but if I dont win the lottery that means im 15 rows further back what i would usually be (which wouldnt be 16th row!) if my membership hadn't lapsed I wouldn't be amused to be on row 20 or side stage because of 15 rows of lottery for people that joined 15 years after I did.

People wanted a shot at being up close the 10C listened and they have it now, 10C has mentioned to others by email that this will be the norm from now on, what more else does everyone want?
I dont have an argument about this issue...

    I have an opinion.......

    And my opinion is...

I would LOVE to see the 10club give more people an oppurtunity to sit up close. Instead of just 4 rows being lottery, I would love to see the first 15-20 rows be lottery.

Thats all there is to it. Just my opinion.

i consider myself lucky to just be in the same building as pearl jam.

the sense of entitlement in this thread is fucking ridiculous.
would you expect anything less from pj fans. I agree with you.

If being front row means that much to people then ask around the board what peoples 10c # are and if they have a extra. Whining like a pussy on a board that's mostly filled with 30-45 year old people isn't gonna get anywhere.

What are you talking about?? Everyone here had the same chance to get into the Vic whether your # was 59000 or 450000. Seniority has nothing to do w/ getting the tickets. Mine is 106xxx and I didn't get tix. And believe me I tried.

I didnt mean you were arguing, I just think that the more we get the more we will want, if they make the first 15 rows lottery next people are going to ask for is the whole floor as a lottery and when that happens people are gonna want the whole damn thing to be lottery.

We have 4 rows for those who joined late, and for those like me that let a membership expire, the people that kept their membership up to date through high school, through college and everything else that was going on in their life deserve the seats they get. That's my opinion

Seniority has never determined whether you get or not tkts to a show, and Im pretty confident it never will, so that point your making there is not really valid.

Seniority determines where you sit (which didnt really matter at the Vic either) and I dont know why its so hard for people to accept that if they joined late, or let their membership expire or were born on the wrong decade they will get worse seats that someone who has been paying a membership for 18 years..

I dont understand why people wouldnt agree that it would be a good thing, to let more fans, have an opportunity to sit up close. Being a member of the 10club has only guaranteed you a chance at getting seats. So lets give everyone the same chance at getting the first 15-20 rows. What harm would that do? Whats the big deal? So instead of some people seeing the band from the 3rd row, they might have to see the band from the 15th row. Its not the end of the world.

You first suggested 10-15 rows, now its 15-20 rows...? Should we make the whole floor available to lottery?

Look in my case I travel and go to shows in other towns, but I have many friends that don't, I have friends that see them only when they come to South Florida, so they should be on 20th or 25 row at the WPB amphitheater because some guy that joined last year traveled from another state to see the band and happened to win the lottery? I dont think so.

  • how would everyone feel about a "weighted lottery" where people who go/have gone to more shows (based on their 10c ticket order history) get bumped up?

    does that sound fair?

let's say person A has been a member since 2002 but has bought tickets to 30 shows from the tenclub, does that entitle this person a closer spot than person B who has been in the tenclub since 1998 but has only bought 10c tickets to 5 shows?

this is an endless debate, with no right answer, unless you add a front row that has 2,000 seats

the current system gives everyone a chance to be up front, and rewards long time members-its a great compromise

As far as seniority seating goes, I had to sit farther away from the stage and pay my dues for years, so should everyone else.

The current system is fine and a LOT better than the mail order, one show per tour block seating way of doing things.

  • seeing Pj is an experience never to be forgotten. up front, 2nd row, 3rd row, 20 th row, in the stands, you still see and here what you came there for. get the frak over it, build a bridge, or jst dont go, and let newer people get the chance to see em up personal. If you're like me, you get lost in the moment, in their sounds, where you sit is irrelevant and selfish to even say somthing.
Strewth, for so many fans, there are a lot of ungratefull selfish pieces of work out there!! be happy that you get to witness this beloved band of ours again abd again. quit the negativity, and focus on the music you love and that you will hear whereve yoyu sit. bring binaulars for christ sake.

My member # is 292xxx and I don't think there could be a more fair way of ticket distribution than they have right now. One change I would consider would be maybe 1 or 2 shows on a tour (of a city that has 2 nights) they could do a full lottery, but I'm certainly not complaining that they don't.

Pearl Jam is about the energy they create. Giving those people who might never dream of being in front creates even more energy than those who are so used to being there.

    no truer words spoken.

expanding the number of seats in the lottery would undoubtedly bring such unprecedented enthusiasm,
sheer excitement and so much unexpected, unadulterated, genuine joy to so many more members
of the self-proclaimed "jamily" that we all claim to be a part of.

why not give more fans a real chance to
    have that mind blowing experience?

there's absolutely nothing wrong with that no matter how you dissect it, at least in my opinion.

There shouldn't even be a debate to begin with. The seniority has been in place for 18 years now. Its not like there hidding anything from us. If you don't like it then shut the fuck up and don't renew. I'm 23 and have never ever sat on the floor for any of the 6 pj concerts that I've gone to. do I go around bitching bout it and acting like a 5 year old, nope. My #10c is 426,xxx and that will probably land me behind the stage or some very high up wing seats or if I'm lucky maybe the lottery. I don't care where I sit cause at least ill be there. I'd rather sit with the "frat fans" then some of you holier then thou people. Least they know how to have a good time and don't bitch bout seeing evenflow for the 30th time and not getting a "rare" song.

  • I agree it doesn't matter when you got in the 10c it doesn't mean your any less of a fan lottery is best for all. I mean think of the younger fans too they get shit seats because when pearl jam's first album dropped they were wiping placenta off of their face.

The way the system is now works perfectly fine in my opinion. My number is not great, 318xxx, so I don't get great seats, but I get decent seats without fighting the scalpers on ticketmaster. I was a fan from the beginning, but I failed to join the fanclub until 2003. I have no problem with those that paid their dues having better seats. Check some other fanclubs that offer fanclub tickets and you could end up with seats in the upper deck and pay higher dues, I have yet to hear of Ten Club tickets being that bad. Ten Club fights to get us most of the best seats in the house, and yet some still want more.

Let us not forget without the support of the loyal fans with seniority in the fanclub you might not have anything to complain about. If they didn't pay their dues and support the band we may not have a Ten Club offering us tickets. Don't they deserve something....

Walkers are great for GA.. Get to the front, put your walker 'the other way around' and presto... you have yourself a little protection all around you, you're not crushed and you have your own personal space to rock out!

Yeah, it's just about the understanding that it is impossible for all seats to be equal. And, that it is no ones fault and there is nothing that can be done about it.

Not everyone can sit dead center in the first row. So the term "crappy seats" is all relative. Certainly, ALL Ten Club seats are better than just about anything you will get from the general ticket sale through Ticketmaster. So relative to that, all Ticketmaster seats are "crappy" and all Ten Club tickets are pretty damn good! But, when just compared to only Ten Club tickets, some are obviously going to be better than others.

That´s logical. I´ve read some posts about bad TC seats so it just made me wonder. Crappy for me would be upper level way back. I´ve been to concerts standing on the floor far behind, that´s not crappy for me. I had a blast! But travelling from guatemala and get upper level seats or behind the stage would suck. I´m going to see them at LA too, but I believe there are no crappy seats in that place!
