One solution would be to revert back to the ONE PAIR per Tour.
Which would only work if tours were announced like they were in the old days... all cities with one announcement. Because can you imagine the number of cry baby complaints if everyone went for the known cities... only to find later that their home city gets announced and they screwed the pooch and booked a flight to Los Angeles because they went for that gig.
...
There really is no pleasing... I am glad that none of the band members read this message board. This way, they still think we are pretty cool people.
I've always liked this idea. I'd probably make it a 2 pair limit though so you can at least see 2 shows w/ 10 c seating.

Plus, if they did away with seniority, can you imagine the drop off in membership dues in the off years? What incentive would the majority have to pay when the band is not touring, or at least not touring in their region?
Ok..
So here we go....hehehehe
What you are saying is....That people here would drop off because "GOD FORBID" they no longer had their seats in the first 5 rows....right???
So it isnt really "about the music' or "about the band" to those people......right???
Its just about THEM and THIER precious first row seats....right????
I say FUCK those people.....
Wrong, I never get the first row. Not since the good old days of all floor GA tickets from the 10c back in the 90's. But I digress, I really appreciate my place in the seniority for having paid my dues yearly since 1994 and usually land somewhere from the 7th to the 12th row. Hell, with this lottery, maybe I too could get the all coveted first row!
What's wrong with this entitlement? The act of entitlement is not always a bad thing when it is just and deserved. I think it is those late to the party (i.e. new hires) who feel they are entitled to the same benefits across the board to those with 10-15 years on them, is....
I cannot think of the right word to finish that last sentence, but I hope you understand what I am trying to say. Agree with it or not.

It is my GF and she does not have a membership. Therefore I bought both Seattle shows. The LA shows make sense because those venues are much smaller than the normal venues that they play. In a situation like that 1 pair makes perfect sense. But if you were to announce the whole tour at once like 99% of other bands I think 2 is a fair number. A lot of the buzz around the band seems to be due to the passionate fan base and the traveling fan base. That is the reason I'd go with 2. I'm not one of the see 10 shows a tour type, so it doesn't impact me as much.
Here is the example I usually give...
in 1998, the first year of seated shows... my 139,000 series number landed me in the 3rd row of the one show I was able to purchase.
...
I didn't use my seniority in 2000 or 2003... but that same 139,000 number landed me in rows 12 or 14 in 2006.

Exactly. There are always ways to see the band. I was late in Joining the 10c even though I'd always been a fan (joined in 05')
But my friends and I would always see PJ shows whenever they were close i.e Portland, Seattle, & SF. I've only had to use my 10c tickets for 2 shows so far and the seats have been fine by me. That's one reason why the ticket complainers irk me so much. People should just be happy to be there. Hell, I've had some of the best times at shows that I didn't even get into like the Vic (Speedy can vouch for that one)

If you want to get rid of seniority and make seating a lottery, then let's make it a real lottery. Let's be honest, most ten club members joined because it guarantees them access to tickets to shows prior to general on-sale. So let's get rid of that guarantee, and have the entire ticket-buying process be a lottery -- maybe you'll get 10c tickets, maybe you won't. If my seniority isn't enough to get me close to the stage, then your 10c membership isn't enough to get you tickets.
This isn't what I want -- I've been to shows all over North America thanks to the ten club -- but let's see you put your money where you mouth is.
Or don't have a lottery at all -- the faster you buy your 10c tickets, the better seats you get.
but, you're right, everyone should have a shot to get real close. i like the system the way it is now. if you've been a member since 92, you don't deserve to sit anywhere outside the first 5 rows, but you aren't entitled to be front and center every time.
but i too hate seeing old people in the front. zero energy. as a performer, i want the people up close to be moving and dancing when i'm singing...not standing there like some geriatric cripples. i want to feel your energy.
Well what about fans like me who wern't old enough to be there back in the day but i have seen them in (6, soon to be 8, different countries including usa) and i'm still under 20. I know i'm an extreme minority but never going to get anywhere with 356xxx :(
Guess im lucky we doing really do seating on the floor ;p

I guess all i can tell you is just be grateful for what you got.
When I was a kid... I loved The Who and Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath... none of whom had fan clubs and access to tickets. Still, i managed to get tickets and was happy. And I know you are also happy to get tickets... but, the fan club really does make it better. The alternative is duking it out with the scalpers on the TicketMonster.
I am EXTREMELY grateful to Pearl Jam and their Fan Club. Mostly because i have already outlived the lives of many, many bands and I know this is all going to end some day. So, I'll take whatever they are offering me today with a most sincere, "Thank You".

No shit....I've said before that if I found out they do read the board, I'm gonna quit. I do know that they get info from the 10c staff...I can deal with Kat/Sea & Santos reading....they know our true colors. And still love us, I hope.
We are really spoiled, you know.... look at New Zealand folks.... they've waited 11 years to see PJ! Think they'd be having this discussion?
Also...those who complained about their age when joining 10c... hubby is almost 42 and he joined in 03 and I a year later, almost 38 here. We were ignorant what 10c was really all about as a fan club.
We missed every opportunity of getting in a local show until kind fans told us what 10c was about.
We been happy since then....
people clearly have issues, but 10c do listen for suggestions/feedbacks/ideas and are always trying something new....and always always willing to listen!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Seniority is the only fair way to do this. I understand it's frustrating to everyone who joined the fan club later on (myself included 242XXX), but it is only fair that someone who has paid dues for almost twenty years get special treatment.
I love these discussions!!! There is one or two people every 5 months that feel they need to perfect the seniority rule.
I have a single low 10c ticket for Philly 10/28 (usually between the 7th and 12th rows w/ this lottery thing). I'm looking to trade it for a single 10c Philly 10/30.
Here's all your newbies guaranteed chance to sit up close. Who's going to step up here and stop the "seniority's not fair crying" and do something about it!!
but i too hate seeing old people in the front. zero energy. as a performer, i want the people up close to be moving and dancing when i'm singing...not standing there like some geriatric cripples. i want to feel your energy.
I'm what you may consider 'old'. I am not a geriatric cripple... age has nothing to do with 'energy'.
The way the system is now, your seniority means NOTHING when it comes to actually purchasing tickets. Right? We are all fighting at the same time to come here and hopefully get lucky enough to get tickets. Right? Why not just take it a step further, since seniority means NOTHING when it comes to purchasing tickets? Why not just make the first 10-15 rows lottery? What harm does that do?
Your analogy means nothing. How would seniority work for purchasing tickets? Seniority has never been in place for purchasing tickets. It has always been about seat allocation, for that is what is important to people on both sides of this argument. And both sides feel "entitled" to the better seat. Except for the only ones who truly do have any sort of entitlement are those who have paid their dues year in and year out, with a tour and without a tour. The band has decided that they are entitled to seniority seating. Why isn't that good enough?
Your point means nothing to me.
Why not give more people a chance to sit up close? Whats so hard about that?
Well I don't agree, rows 1,2, 9, and 10 is enough how about the rest of us who have been renewing year after year.. it's not my fault that others lets their membership lapse or that they were born on 1992 :?

I just spoke with my soon to be 14 years old daughter...she sensed I was bothered, so I explained what the argument was about on the PJ board.
She said she'd really like to see a PJ show.... she's not like us, but she likes a few songs of theirs.
If she really enjoys the show, she would like to join 10c and understands the seniority rule and also thinks the 1&2 and 9&10 randomly selected is pretty fair. She understands that her seats would be one of the most last seats offered by 10c and like everyone else, she'd want the equal opportunity for the random seats.
I'm sure many of you won't admit it, but would think she doesn't deserve to be chosen because she is not a die-hard fan (of course I am ASSuming here).
Or...my 16 years old son who is a PJ hater....and I am secretly praying to the Buddha or mother nature that he would be converted when he listens to the new record and finally wants to see PJ live...and wants to join 10c! I told him about the seniority and he also understood how the system worked.
But I also told him that there were many PJ fans that he could make friends with and swap seats, etc... always find a way.
I've seen many times here on the board that people always find a way with the help of other PJ fans.
Seriously....this PJ community is truly amazing....fans helping each other out....
...in all forms and sizes.

I would love to see a lottery system used for the first 10-15 rows...
I dont care how long you have been a member, or how you have "paid your dues".....
Give everyone, young and old, a chance to get up close..............
I dont see your argument though SPEEDY, up until not to long there was no chance to be up front AT ALL if you had a shitty number, now they've implemented the lottery on rows 1&2 and 9&10... but people always want more and more and more ... now its the first 15 rows, next time will be the whole floor should be lottery :S
People will always have something to whine about.
I joined in 1993, I dont even remember that we had a number back then and when we finally did it didnt really matter that much anyways because most of the gigs were GA... my membership lapsed in late 1998 (which I will blame on my ex-husband) and I renewed on 2000, so its not like I'm here talking like someone that sits in first row.
Mind you if we had 15th rows of lottery maybe I would be closer in some venues (like in the NE), but if I dont win the lottery that means im 15 rows further back what i would usually be (which wouldnt be 16th row!) if my membership hadn't lapsed I wouldn't be amused to be on row 20 or side stage because of 15 rows of lottery for people that joined 15 years after I did.
People wanted a shot at being up close the 10C listened and they have it now, 10C has mentioned to others by email that this will be the norm from now on, what more else does everyone want?

Your attitude is indicative of an entire narcissistic generation of people who were raised with the false reinforcement that you were special no matter what you did, and there are no winners or losers. Which of course was all a lie and in no way prepared anyone for the real world. The real world where you have to pay your dues and work your way to the top. You are not just simply entitled to it just because your mommy told you that you were special. I see it in the workplace a lot too. Kids come in and are flabbergasted when they do not get hired right out of the box to the director level positions.

If you don't like the system, quit the 10c and buy the best seats you can get through general sales. I have been a fan since the beginning, since Mother Love Bone, but I was 14 then. I couldn't afford to, and was not allowed by parents to go to rock shows (religous objections to devil music - haha) so I missed out on all the early gigs, but I managed to get to France in '96, Wembley in 2000, and then again in '07. This mini tour is my first 10c tickets, and although I have been a member on here on and off for a few years, my current 10c number is.....drum roll in the 400,000's.
That's life.
I would love front row seats, but you know what, I'm not entitled. (lottery aside)
Dude, I know it sucks at times, but you can't judge the way others enjoy their experiance at a show. Some people rock out with their cocks out, others sway to the vibes, others scream and shout. All are valid, all are to be respected by others.
I am EXTREMELY grateful to Pearl Jam and their Fan Club. Mostly because i have already outlived the lives of many, many bands and I know this is all going to end some day. So, I'll take whatever they are offering me today with a most sincere, "Thank You".

I never got to see Kurt Cobain live, I had a ticket for the Euro tour the year he died but....
My problem is not with the people standing idly at the front, it's with knowing that those people are there simply because they've paid more money to the fan club over the years.

I was old enough and you have a better 10c number than me.
Hail, Hail!!!
We been happy since then....
people clearly have issues, but 10c do listen for suggestions/feedbacks/ideas and are always trying something new....and always always willing to listen!
honestly, Speedy....with your attitude I've been seeing and if I was single with 50xxx, I wouldn't probably want to share with you with the way you've been talking. :P
Oh shit....I just remembered that I'd remind myself not to be affected if you were involved... *slams forehead*
Carry on...

Well I don't agree, rows 1,2, 9, and 10 is enough how about the rest of us who have been renewing year after year.. it's not my fault that others lets their membership lapse or that they were born on 1992 :?
 *nods in agreement*
agesim....
I love it how people think they know what or how EV is thinking or feeling as a performer. :P

Don't let it get to you though, I leave it all on the computer screen, it's not worth taking it with you anywhere else.

You are right.
I get way too sentimental.... too easily. :(
It's also an indication that I need to step away for a while and cool off.
Thanks for the note, I appreciate it.
You can remind me again anytime...I do appreciate it when I lose sight of things and would have wanted someone to whack me to get me back on the track - even if I get pissed off but I'd thank you later.

I was having a simple conversation with animal about the 10club lottery. I gave my opinion and he gave his. It was a simple discussion. Nobody INSULTED anyone. Right?
And what makes you think after reading a few of your comments that you have directed at me over the last few months, that i would want to be in the same fucking building as you? More or less share fucking seats with you? If you dont like what I have to say, or you dont like my opinion, thats fine. But try (if possible) to keep your personal insults to your fucking self.
Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
It's not the differing opinion that bothers me...and really for the most part I do pretty good in ignoring you. It's your tone and looking down on people.
And you have insulted me in the past... and I shouldn't have given "an eye to eye" here...because that doesn't make me a better person than you are. We are equals here.
So for that insult or any other insults i have made, I do apologize and I'll keep to myself from now on.

This is whats important.
I never got to see Kurt Cobain live, I had a ticket for the Euro tour the year he died but....
I'm just grateful to see the band I love.
the sense of entitlement in this thread is fucking ridiculous.
Really? This is the worst post I've ever read.
