Couldnt find any good deals for the weekend downtown. I really wanted to stay at the Radisson but they were telling me 200 bucks on the phone. Priceline wasnt accepting my 100 dollar bid for a hotel downtown...Finally found a room at the Radisson for 120 thru 1800hotels.com so i jumped on it. But now that site doesnt have any rooms left for the Radisson that weekend so it looks like I got one of the last rooms.
The Holiday Inn Stadium room rate fell though.... I think they decided to take a look at the sports schedule and noticed the Eagles, Flyers, 76ers and possibly Phillies will be playing that weekend....
Sorry if anyone was waiting.... there are some other group rates people are putting together or you can go the priceline route at your risk....
Just booked a room at Club Quarters for $95 through Priceline "Name your own price".
I'm coming in Saturday 10/31 and staying just one night.
I had been bidding the past few days, looking for 3* or 3.5* hotels in the Downtown area. I'd been shut down on my tries until today. Tried a few 3.5* bids today - when I worked my way up to $90, I got a $22 counter-offer (saying I could add $22 and re-bid again immediately). Instead, I just added another zone (which had no 3.5* hotels), and bumped my bid up to $95 - which was accepted.
Still wish I had been able to get in on the Radisson rate, but this will work. Can't wait... In the meantime, I'll get my fix in Toronto tomorrow.

finally, me too!
i've been bidding $90 for awhile, and getting nothing. upped my bid to $95...got the same place, for 10.30 and 10.31. shame to have missed out on the radisson deal but so it goes...i really would've preferred scoring the sheraton deal @ $89 that someone managed, only b/c i am a preferred guest member and it would've upped my points, but c'est la vie. this is still far better than the deal offered by sheraton for buy one night, 2nd night 50% off b/c that came to $60 a night per person, before fees....so more like $75 a night, whereas this is $57 pp a night with taxes and fees. so $18 a night saved pp, $36 total saved pp.....good enough for me! $$$ for a few more drinks, or the poster, whatever....
so if i fly in solo from Des Moines - what is my best / cheapest option - priceline style.....its just going to be me so i dont need a big or even a nice room - unless someone wants to split a room
You may want to check the Philly Preparty thread. There's a list of places that were offering specials - not sure if all or any are still available but it may be worth a look.

For those who haven’t booked yet, I wouldn’t recommend a hotel near the airport, there’s nothing out there but the airport and hotels.
I live in Jersey but since I have a friend coming into town from Seattle, we’re going to stay downtown at the Embassy Suites, right smack in the middle of the city, across from the Four Seasons. It’s accessible to all the public transportation, especially the Philadelphia Phlash, which runs from 10 to 6 every day and will take you from Penns Landing all the way to the Zoo and Please Touch Museum (and everything in between). You can get a pass for the day for $5. It won’t take you to the shows, but it will get you around a good bit.
If anyone is going all week, I got the Embassy Suites Center City 3star hotel for $65 a night on Priceline last night. Probably helped I was staying 5 days, so the weekend folks may not be so lucky.

smart move...the airport and stadium areas are not where you want to be. Unless you like industrial areas with nothing to do.
Stay in Center City (this is what downtown philadelphia is called). Can't stress this enough
All I know is 1st-timers to Philly who stay in the airport/stadium area better not tell me that their first impression of the city sucks. It will be their own fault.

me either, definitely not the airport area, if you stay down by the Spectrum, at least you can hop on the Broad street line and get into town in a matter of minutes, out at the airport, it will cost you a pretty penny for a cab into town (probably about 40 bucks) or you'll have to take the R1 airport line into town and that would be a little bit of a pain, only because of the infrequency of the trains and the time factor (probably about 30 minutes into town)

another point to note is that it's next to impossible to get a cab if you stay by the stadiums and there is no event going on. I've closed down mcfaddens many times after phils/eagles games and been shit out of luck trying to find a cab. there is nothing around, so it's a wasted trip for the cab drivers (or they try to charge you double...those bastards)
definately watch out for the cab drivers, they will rip you off in a hot second
There really is no need for cabs though, the public transporation system in this city is pretty damn good if you ask me
I work at 7th & Spring Garden Street and I can be down at 19th & Market in a matter of minutes
hop on the 47 to Market Street to the El, take the El to 13th Street (free interchange to trolley) and two stops later I'm smack damn in the middle of downtown
I do it quite often as a matter of fact, and if everything comes right away, I could get there in about 10 minutes using three differnet types of public transporation
Question...
We ARE staying at the stadium Holiday Inn (hubby thinks the walking distance to the venue is worth the trade-off), but we DO plan to catch the rails into downtown several times, esp on Thurs night when there's no show. So I'm wondering, how late does the public transportation run? If we get outta the bars around 2am, we'll probly hafta catch a cab back to the hotel, right? I just know that's how it is in Boston.

yeah your best bet that late at night is a cab I would think
the subway downtown will be easy for you to snag from the hotel, it's more the airport people who are going to miss out on the city activities, or else pay some bigger $$ to get back and forth several times
Just got the Embassy Suites for Oct 30th thru Nov. 1st for $74 per night via priceline ...
Can't wait!!!
are those rooms 1 bed or 2??
Priceline never guarantees more than one bed in any room you book through them. That's between you and the hotel. However, by name, the Embassy Suites are all suites! Hence, if staying there you will have at least one bed and one pull out sofa bed.
