GO ENJOY THE SHOW!!!!!!!!
save a quarter a day.......and go enjoy a few more shows.....
*drinks sonme coffee*
haha....sorry.......
guess it's still the teacher in me, always questioning...and sure, i work for accountants now... :P
sad thing is, i would never attempt any math w/o a calculator.
When it comes down to saving for "Tour Time" its all pretty simple isnt it????
We basically know we have a year to save up for shows.....travel...hotel....blah blah blah....
This band has been pretty much playing shows consistently every year since 2003(only lolla and the vic in 2007)
Its just a matter of priorities....right????
If traveling to see this band and being able to go to a few shows is of major importance to you....Then putting $20 a week in to a fund for an entire year......should be able to fly you in to Philadelphia ...get you a decent hotel......and you should be able to see 2(maybe 3 shows at the spectrum)....Right???
The band can not play everyones "HOMETOWN" every year.....hell they havent played most U.S. cities for 5 years....
So saving up for travel and hotels is just the way it is with seeing this band perform live....
Take me piece by piece..... Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....

damn speedy, you're almost sexy when you're so sensible.
and yea, i did the math again, haha. $20 a week x 52 = $1040. so sure, if you can get a good deal on flights/hotels...split tix with a buddy.....eat on the cheap.....definitely doable. or sure, try and save $25 a week instead, bit more cash cushion.
obviously, for some people, no matter what.....REAL life takes precedence and so it goes.....but for a LOT of us a little forethought and planning, like most things...it is doable. absolutely, if you make it a priority (and don't allow yourself to dip into your tour fund for ANYthing else) you can manage it for sure.....

Actually ...most people...myself included....
Really need to look at how they spend their money...and how much money is wasted throughout an entire year.....before they start complaining about not being able to afford shows....
IF pearl jam shows are of MAJOR Importance to somebody ...then being able to affoed to go to those shows should really be no big deal(Even if you make minimum wage)
How much money do i spend on fast food in a year??(that money could go to my pearl jam fund)
How much money do people spend at the bar??($3.00 for a fucking budweiser???)
How much money is thrown away going to the movies??(wait for blockbuster to release it)
How much money is wasted going to that fine restaraunt??(Was that steak really worth $40)
How much money is wasted on that $6 a day cigarette habit??(cancer is expensive)
But WE ALL spend/waste money throughout the year.....Its just a part of life....
And we have nobody to blame(certainly not the band) but ourselves.....when we cant afford $83.50 for a concert ticket.....

priorities....and balance....like most things.
i think if this economy has done nothing else it has made a LOT of us reevaluate those priorities and rethink, or even for the first time reexamine, our spending habits. it IS amazing when you do so. it's all about trade-offs and what you deem most important, even when you begint to rate those "luxuries" and what is truly worth it to you, or not....and go on from there...
$83 50 is no problem to some people....

I mean, seriously, people. It's not that hard.
If you have a family, and a low-paying job, and the recession has hit you between the eyes ... well, that sucks. It sounds like you have bigger problems than making it to a rock show.
If you can afford to go, well, good for you. Have fun.
Concerts are a luxury, and tickets cost what they cost. There's no use bitching about it.
I'd like to go buy a new BMW, but I don't have the money. I'm not going to bitch at my BMW dealer for that.
well i'm not gonna read anymore because the voices of reason have spoken
And just to answer the original question posted here....
$83.50 is a fucking bargain to go see the best live band on the fucking planet.....
ITS A FUCKING BARGAIN!!!!!
vote for that...the best rock band in the world not have a price level...thats the end,,,83.50$ is to fuckin cheap

It's definitely a lot more than it used to be. And I know folks on here aren't bashing the band, so there really is no need to defend them, but I have faith that these guys do everything they can to keep prices fair from year to year. Just seems that across the board a lot of people are getting priced out of good, live entertainment these days whether it be sports or live music. It's a big problem for a genre like rock and roll which is supposed to be for "the people."

word! Thank you.
I am unable to go to any pearl jam shows and it doesn't bother me. Concerts are expensive with some of the bigger bands. (I just saw/ met candlebox for $30 a few nights ago). There are bands that still tour for 30- 40 a ticket and that's great. But the tickets cost what they cost. Pearl jam is to expensive for me. Luckily though, my mom very generously bought me an ACL pass for pj so I will see them thanks to her. Your post was good and very informative and straight on point. Thank you.
Apart from my favourites like Pearl Jam, Muse and a few others, I will pay around £50 - £60 for a ticket. I paid £150 for a pair of Michael Jackson tickets (which I sold to a mate and awaiting a refund to refund my mate etc) but to be honest, I would rather pay £15-£25 for up and coming bands like Gaslight Anthem or Airborne Toxic Event than pay big bucks to see the better known bands. Smaller venues, better sound and generally better people too.
Rock on!!!!
Seen Pearl Jam 4 times in London, once in Manchester, as well as an Eddie show at Hammersmith.
I don't think anyone is that dumb or dense and can't figure out that if you can't afford a ticket then you shouldn't go
The problem people are having is that everything this band stood for is now out the window. They used to fight Ticketmaster to keep prices down and now they are gouging their fans. Some of you blindly stick up for everything they do, they could come out with an album where they only chant Buddhist hymns and somewhere on here there would be threads devoted to how great the album is. People have a fair argument when they ask if $83 is too much. I know Pearl Jam in 1995 wouldn't charge $50 for a show(which could be relative to $85 today)- and they also wouldn't have signed a deal with Target. These are all fair points, you might disagree, but don't pass them off like they are stupid to suggest.
Food for thought if you have to travel to see them. Just sayin paid $55 to see Bruce with the E Street Band and $47.25 for Green Day with excellent fan club seats this summer, to a venue five minutes from my office and less than an hour home. Completely hassle free and a very good time with my child. Don't know what Bruce fan club seats cost in Philly but believe GD was the same everywhere in the US. Both sold huge portions of the arena to fan club members first so fewer tix were available for the masses. To see PJ at the nearest venue would cost me about $200 a ticket (assuming you get 10c tickets) with travel expenses added, not to mention the extra vacation/sick day to get there and back. I think everyone sort of lost sight of the real cost not being just the price of a ticket to the show anymore to rationalize support for a pricey ticket, IMO. I have seen them enough to say they are a great live band that I continue to enjoy and love their music dearly but that is more than I can justify paying for 2 hours of (duly noted-excellent) music. I can only think of about one artist I would pay that to see perform now. Maybe it's my age and being a parent that has changed my priorities, not just my bank account. But as the saying goes, 'one man's gold is another's folly' and opinions are like assholes, everyone has got one.

Can you tell me where you saw prices for this tour? I looked at a few threads but missed it somehow.
By the way, my first PJ show was 16.00 in 1993. I still have the stub.
I make more than I did then, and I really want to go to the Seattle shows. Not sure how much is too much, but yeah, 83.50 is a lot of money.
Here is something funny. Your username is the name of the game hide & seek in norwegian
Yes, it is. It is my Geocaching user name as well, which is a high-tech game of hide and seek and my family origin is Norwegian, so I felt it was appropriate. Of course. no one in the US has a clue what it means.
And to the other thanks for the link. I finally figured out that if I view the home page when logged in, I don't see the news, but if I'm logged out--there it is! Thanks.
Yes, the prices are higher than what we are used to, but I guess I will pay. It's what I've been waiting for.
. . . and in the aching night under satellites, I was not received. --CC

This is exactly it. And comparing prices for other big shows this summer (Phish $55, Green Day $47.50), PJ is definitely the high end of pricing, which is even more puzzling given the Recession we're in. The guys have changed their values, I believe, but it's hard to figure out for sure, as there's no communication between band and fans anymore. It would be great to hear from them...
I am surprised that the L.A. tickets are not more expensive, since the venue only holds 6,000 people.
I remember seeing PJ in Santa Barbara in 06. My friend asked why the tix were more expensive then other PJ shows. I replied that the tix were more expensive because it was a smaller venue. We had 2nd row seats, so my friend made the clever observation that we, in a sense, were paying extra money to have less people behind us!
consider U2 are charhing way more for a show that will be shorter, and based around wank 360 gimmicks, and pretty much standard sets, nd we have 5/6 members here to their 4....your getting good value for your money.
Never forget what PJ put into what they do, there are very few bands as good on the live stage in the world if any in fact, so is for example $75 to see PJ in Seattle too much? Nah, not for me. Watch how they sell. thats the best indicator
But with U2 you get Muse!

PEARL JAM star EDDIE VEDDER fears he'll have to increase concert ticket prices after years of fighting to keep them low - because fans keep stealing his songs. The rocker was one of the leading voices against high ticket fees - and famously took on Ticketmaster in America - but now he feels downloading is killing music and he'll need to seek profits elsewhere. Vedder says, "A lot of people are getting your music without having to pay, and it's only $12. "I ordered eggs at a little restaurant in Seattle and it was $9.50. I was thinking, 'You can't spend two extra bucks for a record that you put your heart and soul into?' "I think the problem is to charge more for tickets, which is something we've always been abhorrent to do; either that or you're gonna have to start accepting sponsorships, or start selling your music to Viagra. "I'm not sure how we'll do it. I'm glad we gave money away when we did - when it came in from making records. We kind of spread it around and helped people in our community and abroad in different ways."

I think more important than the rising concert ticket prices is a much more prominent issue in society: the rising prices of prepared eggs.

Great post, this is exactly what I was thinking !! Bands dont make money off of record sales like they used to before the days of digital music, so they need to make their money off of concert tickets.

1) most fans aren't 10c members
2) most fans members or not do not buy all the crap 10c sells
if i remember correctly, the profit from crap the 10c sells supports the fan club
touring and record sales are the 2 biggest revenue makers for all bands....take away record sales and all you're got left is touring....considering there are 5 members plus boom and the crew to pay for i'd say ticket prices are reasonable considering it's a luxury item and not a right
Would you rather $40 for nosebleed seats or 83.50 for good seats and a chance at first row. You guys want the best seats and cheap tickets but unfortunately you cant have it all. Wont their be cheaper options when they go on sale to the general public?

Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
ENJOY![/quote]
glad to help u back some day....

absolutely.
priorities....and balance....like most things.
i think if this economy has done nothing else it has made a LOT of us reevaluate those priorities and rethink, or even for the first time reexamine, our spending habits. it IS amazing when you do so. it's all about trade-offs and what you deem most important, even when you begint to rate those "luxuries" and what is truly worth it to you, or not....and go on from there...

But is 84 bucks too much? - not a chance! (don't tell the band)
word!
Thank you.

Seen Pearl Jam 4 times in London, once in Manchester, as well as an Eddie show at Hammersmith.

Speedy, get your ass to Seattle! I want my drinks!
But with U2 you get Muse!
VEDDER FEARS TICKET PRICE HIKE
September 24, 2007
We kind of spread it around and helped people in our community and abroad in different ways."
hahahaha. So their reasoning is they charge $85 to people that spend $20 a year to be in the fan club, buy the albums on vinyl and CD, buy posters, shirts, hoodies and every other trinkets they can manage to slap their name on so they can make up profits they lose by people illegally downloading?
