$83 50 is no problem to some people....
$83.50 is a lot of money to some people......

Its all depends on your individual situation...right???

If you can afford to go to the concert....then go to the concert.....

If you cant afford $83.50 for a concert ticket......then dont go to the concert.....

    Word.

I mean, seriously, people. It's not that hard.

If you have a family, and a low-paying job, and the recession has hit you between the eyes ... well, that sucks. It sounds like you have bigger problems than making it to a rock show.

If you can afford to go, well, good for you. Have fun.

Concerts are a luxury, and tickets cost what they cost. There's no use bitching about it.

I'd like to go buy a new BMW, but I don't have the money. I'm not going to bitch at my BMW dealer for that.

    $83.50/2.5 hours = $33.40/hr
    $83.50/150 minutes = $0.56/minute
    $83.50/30 songs = $2.78/song

I guess it just depends how you look at it.

Wow. I remember my first Pearl Jam show costing less than $20. Pearl Jam is the greatest band in the world. If I had that much extra money to spend I would. But I don't. How much is too much for a Pearl Jam show? For me it is not a matter of how much I would pay, it is how much I can pay. Unfortunately I do not think I will be able to see Pearl Jam this time around.

I am a teacher. I am a single father. I make $41,000 a year. With my budget $167 is too much for me to spend.

So I am asking- How much is too much for you to spend on Pearl Jam tickets?

$83.50 per ticket is very expensive. Unfortunately I think this is the average price for concert tickets in 2009. Start saving some money each pay day for next year. I think they will tour in 2010. If you start saving now you should have enough for 2010. My yearly salary is the same as yours except I don't have any kids...I'm trying to figure out how many shows I can afford to see this year too.

    $83.50/2.5 hours = $33.40/hr
    $83.50/150 minutes = $0.56/minute
    $83.50/30 songs = $2.78/song

I guess it just depends how you look at it.
That certainly makes it seem more expensive...

    PJ Revenue...

    $1.5M/150 minutes = $10,000/minute
    $1.5M/2.5 hours = $600,000/hour
    $1.5M/30 songs = $50,000/song

And, yes, I know they don't walk out with $1.5M... but there's a reason they only need to tour for a month a year!

I think $83 is to much. I think it sucks how much tickets cost now. I'm not really blaming PJ, but I was actually expecting them to keep their prices down in the $50-$60 range. I'm not real pleased with the price increase.

    $83.50 for a concert ticket.....

Lets say you live in Seattle and have waited 5 YEARS for pearl jam to perform there....

thats 1725 days you have had to save $83.50 for a concert ticket....

Had you saved $0.05 a day for the last 5 years.....

    You would have $86.25....

    Go enjoy the show!!!!!!!!!

Just think where you would be if you saved $0.25 a day for the last 5 years..................

(Geez, I hope my basic math is correct) hehehehehehe

    it's a tough question.
i think the prices are in line with other shows, and oftentimes far more affordable than other acts. however, i also don;t go and see other acts nearly as much as i do pj. right now, my mental cut-off limit is $100 a ticket. i have paid more than that in a few choice situations/artists.....but yea, once, maybe twice? if pj was at that price or higher id probably only see local shows and/or a lot less shows than i do now...that's for sure. i mean, $200 for an evenings entertainment (assuming i went with my husband)....definitely pricey. i do think pearl jam is worth it, but it is not something i could indulge in as much as i do now. granted, i've seen more pj shows with friends than my spouse.....and that has helped keep my costs down even now. yea, prices have just about doubled since my first pj show in 2003.....if only my salary did so!

I am not complaining because I have the means and don't mind the price HOWEVER:

With the ecomony being what it is, I am SHOCKED that the price of a Pearl Jam ticket has gone up this high. It is known that Eddie and the boys are sensitive to current events, politics and the like and I am almost appalled at the bordorline insensitivity to the common Pearl Jam's fan finanical problems.

You can get tickets to see Widespread Panic for $36 on the lawn. Last year when they came to Atlanta, they had a deal where if you bought 4 lawn seats it costs each person $20. Obviously it can be done. I also know Wilco's tickets are no where near what PJ is charging now either. For the longest time, PJ was known for keeping their ticket costs reasonable. No More.

I'd be shocked if PJ's trend wasnt very steeply higher this way. ticket prices, books, shirts, etc, etc, etc.

I'm not going to say its too much or not, but PJ's sensitivities to pricing is no longer there at all. The band that kept ticket prices for $20-$30-$40 would not have made $200 art books, $65 hoodies, etc.

And that's OK - I mean, a lot of people want that kind of access and items. But there's no comparison to the no-frills PJ of the 90s anymore outside of just looking at the music.

am i the only one questioning the math?

    365 days x 5 years = 1825 days
    1825 x 0.25 = 456.25
which just about gives you enough funds for you and a guest to go to 2.73 concerts at the price of $167 a pair.
so let's just round it to 2 shows so $334.....with $122.25 so you could buy some merch, some beers, whatever, at each show.

awesome thought really speedy. saving 0.25 a day would feel like nothing.
i will say tho, for many of us....spoiled.....and want to see pj every year, even a few times. luckily, i can manage it thus far. none the less, you make an excellent point. if concerts are a luxury that is truly important to you, you CAN figure out ways to make it affordable, if you want it. or, use your $$$ for more important necessities. concerts most definitely ARE a luxury.

even a quarter a day for a year, you could afford a ticket for $91.25. so sure, you, your spouse, your buddy, whatever.....each save a quarter a day for a year, and you know you can afford pj at least once a year if they play close to home, anyway. i like this idea....i may actually start doing this, haha. maybe even a buck a day... (i've never really saved for a concert fund, just try to save, when i can.....but if i took a buck a day specifically for that, would hurt less later on)

    edit - *DAMN!
this is 2x now in the same # of days....i should get my eyes checked. ;)
speedy said FIVE CENTS a day, not TWENTY-FIVE. hahaha. dear gawd. 0.05 or 0.25.......damn small font. :geek:
