Wow. I remember my first Pearl Jam show costing less than $20. Pearl Jam is the greatest band in the world. If I had that much extra money to spend I would. But I don't. How much is too much for a Pearl Jam show? For me it is not a matter of how much I would pay, it is how much I can pay. Unfortunately I do not think I will be able to see Pearl Jam this time around.

I am a teacher. I am a single father. I make $41,000 a year. With my budget $167 is too much for me to spend.

So I am asking- How much is too much for you to spend on Pearl Jam tickets?

Can you tell me where you saw prices for this tour? I looked at a few threads but missed it somehow.

By the way, my first PJ show was 16.00 in 1993. I still have the stub.

I make more than I did then, and I really want to go to the Seattle shows. Not sure how much is too much, but yeah, 83.50 is a lot of money.

Those prices seem ok to me.

consider U2 are charhing way more for a show that will be shorter, and based around wank 360 gimmicks, and pretty much standard sets, nd we have 5/6 members here to their 4....your getting good value for your money.

Never forget what PJ put into what they do, there are very few bands as good on the live stage in the world if any in fact, so is for example $75 to see PJ in Seattle too much? Nah, not for me. Watch how they sell. thats the best indicator

It works out to about £50 a ticket which is slightly more than UK, as its normally expensive here too I am kinda used to it.

PJ tickets are only worth what you can pay. Im seeing them in Manchester and London and would love to see the other Euro shows but simply cant. Im chuffed Im seeing them twice of coarse :-) But with all the on costs (Travel, hotel, food, T Shirt etc) its a killer on the bank account. I cant imagine the cost if I were travelling thousands of miles as some do.

I take my hat off to the OP for staying strong and thinking about family first. It can take over a little all this touring stuff.

here in Aus tickets are just over $100. No one flutters an eye lash. Thats CHEAP compared to all the other bands that tour through here from the states. For me, its a decent and good price, of which i will be going to every concert in my city come December when they tour down here.

In fairness, I paid 73 with fees for U2 for GA right in front of the stage :)

That being said, these prices fall in line with a lot of huge acts these days. They aren't undercharging, however, like they did in 2006 when a ticket was 56 a piece from 10c.

I'm sorry I tend to rant about U2 too much, after being a fan for a long time, I saw three shows a few years back that cost a0 shit load for GA and they were shit. Total shit. Ok it was a stadium and they are always hard to get right but the whole set up was shit. And Bono got right on my tits every time.

I left those places feeling robbed.

And dont get me started on their golden circle shit, pay more to get close to U2. Not bad for a band screaming out for world equalityy. It takes the piss, those rich fans are obviosuly bigger fans, of course, how silly of me not to see that. Harks back to the Live8 gig i got to also, whereby alcohol was banned for the crowd, however those in the special front circle were allowed beer and Champagne. Bob struck gold there too.

You see...I'm off on one again

It's working out at €106 for two tickets (for Seattle), which, at €53 each, is great value for money. U2 is costing €60 to €130, Brucie is costing €85+.. but then again Ireland is overpriced for EVERYTHING!

6 years ago, when they used to give 'gas' away in the states cheaper than water.

Oil prices spiked so so did the cost of touring.

By the way is your petrol over there still as cheap as piss? Lets compare. We pay around £5 a gallon. At its peak it was the equivalent of $10 a gallon. The last time i was in the states we were paying $1.90 a gallon. Insane.

I HEAR YOU LONGROAD PITTSBURGH. MYSELF I AM A FAMILY MAN AND TEACHER AS WELL, AND WE ARE ON A TIGHT BUDGET TOO. THE PRICE IS ALITTLE MORE THAN WE ARE USED TO, BUT SO IS EVERYTHING ELSE. THE TICKETS I COULD HANDLE IT IS THE TRAVELING THAT BREAKS OUR BANK. I RATHER KEEP MY LITTLE GIRL HAPPY AND HEALTHLY THAN SPEND ALL THAT MONEY. DONT GET ME WRONG, I LOVE THE BAND AND WOULD LOVE TO SEE THEM. IN FACT, THIS WOULD BE MY FIRST TOUR I MISSED SINCE THE BEGINNING OF PEARL JAM.(20 BUCKS MY FIRST TICKET) I CANT WAIT TO HEAR THE NEW RECORD, AND MAYBE THEY WILL ADD A SECOND LEG, AND MAYBE THEY WILL VISIT THE CITY OF CHAMPIONS, THE PLACE WE BOTH CALL HOME.
I HOPE EVERYBODY ELSE ENOYS THE SHOWS, AND TREAT EACH OTHER WITH RESPECT.

    no its not too much

unfortunately, thats what it costs these days to see a major act in an arena

Relatively speaking its a good deal. The best seated seats at U2 are $250 and thats outdoors where you are not that close. Nosebleeds which are a mile away from stage are $110 a pop. Pearl Jam is a bargain at these prices.
  • This is the going price for shows. I'm going to see Incubus and paid $141 for the pair. I make a lot less that 41K a year, but I guess if someone wanted to go bad enough, they would find the money.

It seems like it is a good deal compared to other bands of similar caliber. Prices on everything has gone up, as has the amount of hands in the cookie jar for each show as well.

I've been comparing these $80 prices with other big bands touring this summer. So far the best deal I've found for a huge name was Phish, $55 / ticket. I just don't think I can swing the $80 price tag AND hotel accommodations and travel. I have a family and have just found a job after being unemployed for a while. It's a recession. I've heard of other bands giving their fans a break during these hard times, but that high price tag doesn't sound like the band is really taking it easy on us during these difficult times for many. Makes me sad. :(

ETA: Live Nation is actually having a deal for the recession, a break on some concert ticket prices. LIVE NATION!!??

I just thought my fave band was about keeping the price tag low. Not even a break during these hard times.

I wonder if the WAY they are touring might be responsible for the higher prices... if they did a full scale tour, they wouldn't have to travel so far in between shows, and it seems to me that would allow them to lower prices... whether they would or not, who knows?

Am in a similar financial and personal situation asboth of you - it ain't the meat it's the motion - I can budget enough for two tickets at home but add the expense to drive or fly, hotel, meals, etc and I cannot do it. Plus they are planning this 'tour' at a time when not only we have to use vacation time (weeknights) and the kids are back in school as well, making a night out of town even more expensive. I think I paid like $10 back in '91 (granted) to see the Chili Peppers (RIP Hillel), PJ, and the Smashing Pumpkins (rot Billy) at a college center, I believe it's the same year that Neil played the Civic now Mellon (soon to be a parking lot) Arena in PITTSBURGH with Sonic Youth opening and everybody bitched about the feedback so they kept turning it up, LOL! Cortez the Killer is indelibly imprinted in my brain - I digress, sorry. Point is, IMO music is their livelihood and with that comes touring to promote new music and make new fans as well as keep old ones. Green Day - love em or leave em - went for $48 fan club and Bruce, who sold out in 15 minutes, had tix for $55 - which we got upgraded to side of the stage by a very nice man in this market. :D So with the added expenses, a night in Philadelphia (sounds like a Marx Bros movie) would run about $200 a ticket if you add parking, hotel, meals, gas, turnpike, etc, and that's low balling it.

I paid a whopping $55 last year for 10th row Radiohead tickets (when gas was $4.00 a gallon). LMAO you guys are getting hit with $83.50 for tickets now? nice Pearl Jam. Nice
  • DewieCoxDewieCox Posts: 11,430
It's definitely worth whatever it costs, but they're pricey when you compare them to bands on their level. You can't compare them to the prices of U2 or Bruce Springsteen b/c there's 5x the demand for them. Phish or Radiohead would be a much more realistic comparison.

except U2 is a legendary band. Pearl Jam is a big band, but no where near U2. U2 will sell out any show they do, Pearl Jam didn't even sell out 3-4 shows in 07 and haven't even sold out the shows in Chicago yet. That's why U2 can charge that much.

I got lawn for Radiohead for $35. The exact price I paid for the exact tix for PJ in 2000.

i paid less then 50 bucks for Nine Inch Nails tickets last year for the lights in the sky tour which was one of the most extravagant concerts i have ever seen. don't get me wrong, i would go see pearl jam over nin any day of the week but it's crazy that pearl jam is charging almost 30 bucks more a show. whatever though, i'm still gonna go see them at least once or twice and when it's all said and done it'll be worth it.

  • Yeah, 80+ for a single ticket to alot of gigs these days, its getting a bit out of control. Some Bands have doubled their ticket prices in 5 years????????? That a bit much. All those that are ok with 80+ single tix, at what point does it level off, never? 150 a single ticket then in 5 or so years according to the fuzzy logic going on with the prices over time.

which is my i alwys wonder why they perservere with the states, play in the Uk and they sell out in minutes. London 2007 was a joke, less than 20 mins and the house was full.

You charge what the market demands....Chicago and TO were around $67. Philly has had the highest concentration of album sales since Binaural, and it's the only shows in the Northeast - where the highest concentration of fans are for this band. $83.50 is not surprising at all.
