Custom Picks
So I got really bored with my standard yellow tortex picks. I have been playing with them for years. After awhile they started to get expensive having to buy a few bags of them every couple of months. I started trying different picks made from different materials and settled on hard pearloid picks. Those were even more…

Pick Thickness
So Im still on the up swing when it comes to guitar. I started off feeling more comfortable with a thin pick but recently have found myself more comfortable with a medium thickness pick. Is this normal? Is it a sign that I may be making some progress? Any insight would be appreciated

How's my guitar cover of Save You?
It's a pretty simple song so I thought it would be good for my first recorded cover. Thoughts on my playing? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nc99Q5CRY5Q

My album Ferdinand is now available!
Hello friends. My new album, Ferdinand, is now available on brianzilm.com, iTunes, cdbaby.com and Google Play The album was co-produced by Tom Drummond of the band Better Than Ezra. The record has a very late-90's/early 2000's pop rock sound to it. It definitely is experimental though in the use of strings and drum loops.…

BEST PJ Cover Thread
I've seen a lot of bands trying to emulate Pearl Jam on stage. Regarding to Eddie's voice, this chilean singer Javier Díaz steals the show. Check out this Even Flow performance (3:45 mark). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3S8bavbK8Yo#t=2m45s Please share any PJ cover you think is A+ quality.

Eddie's Black Gibson Acoustic
Was anyone else at the Who Celebration show with Pete, Eddie, Joan Jett, Joe Walsh and Rick Nielsen? I want to know what model that black Gibson acoustic was that Eddie played. It had star inlay and black pickguard. The closest thing I could find was Gibsons Harley Davidson acoustic but the inlay was wrong.

The Only Good Thing About MLOA
I'm on a medical leave of absence for work (long story---overheated at a fire and haven't been medically cleared, yet). The only thing keeping me from going insane (I hate missing calls---especially ones down my street) is my guitar. I haven't been playing much until a couple days ago when I was told I couldn't go back…

noise suppressor pedal?
anybody here use a noise suppressor? i just recently picked up a decimator 2 and it seems to work pretty well. seems like it compresses my guitar tone a bit which makes for some nice tight crunch without all of the amp hiss. i think on a clean setting it brightens things up a bit too. just my impression after playing it a…

Parting Ways - Help Needed
I was away from my guitar for too long and now I can't seem to get the "drifting away" part of Parting Ways to sound quite right. I know I used to play it Bm, ?, E. But what is the missing chord? I tried F# but that doesn't sound right to me. It's driving me crazy so hopefully someone here can help me out. Thanks!

Left Handed guitar selection
One of the guys I work with (and longtime high school friend) recently mentioned wanting to learn guitar. He's left-handed and I have all right-handed guitars. We went to guitar center and didn't see ONE left-handed guitar on display! He like the sound of mine (basic Fender starter acoustic) but wants to try other ones.…

PJ solo/song in Key of A?
Hi, I'm a new guitarist looking for some help. My guitar teacher gave me a homework assignment: learn the modes of A. I was getting bored playing up and down the scales on a sheet of paper, so I bought a Ditto looper to practice jamming over a looped chord progression. I've been looping Dsus2, C, Emin (Black) and…

Rediscovering my love for The Blues...OH MY
I flipped on my XM radio (in my jeep) and Joe Bonamassa's "The River" was playing. My jaw dropped....I was blown away! I've been listening to him, SRV, The three Kings, and some John Mayer. There are a few local guys, too. Any good recommendations on stuff? I love the style of "The River"...holy cow. So heavy, powerful,…

Phase shootout?
I love the phaser---Thanks to Pearl Jam and Incubus. I started out with the digitech hyperphase (which was great except it sucked tone worse than...uhh....a vacuum) and moved on to a Phase 90 (block version). I just discovered the Phase 99 (in video). Has anyone used the Phase 100 or Phase 99? How do they compare to the…

Kemper
So I'm an unabashed blink-182 fan. I taught myself guitar off of their early records Cheshire Cat & Dude Ranch (Subsequently, Pearl Jam was the band that pushed me to be "good" at the guitar). These guys have gotten a lot of flack over years, and I get it. But they put a lot of years before getting notoriety. Lots of drama…

Most underrated pedal/effect
What do you think the most underrated pedal or effect is? For pedal, I usually think the Tuner is underrated---it's needed but many beginners don't consider to put one in their chain. In terms of effects, I think Danalectro mini effects are underrated. Yeah, they're not really road worthy but they've got great tone and…
