Why would they need to offer that a day into the investigation? Have they been so gutted of personel by Elon Musk?Gern Blansten said:FBI offering $100K for info on shooter....seems kind of early for that but Bongo & Kash must know what they are doing"Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"0 -
Pressure from Donald Trump. They offered up 50,000 for the guy who shot the MN lawmakers.Spiritual_Chaos said:

I thought 40 was the benchmark. Mike Gundy, anyone?mrussel1 said:So the thing I always thought was weird about Kirk was his schtick. Why should I be impressed with a 30 year old man debating college kids? WTF is that all about? He does this for a living, he's a grown-ass man, and we were supposed to be impressed by it? Just strange. Maybe it was cute when he was 23 but Jesus, if I couldn't beat a 19 year old in a debate, I'd be mortified.

So has The View blamed the shooting on Trump yet? I know you all watch it. It's your news source0

So I don't mean to ask stupid questions, but we know the rifle was found in the woods. So why isn't he carrying it here? Seem like it should be in his hands.Gern Blansten said:

Do you know if this video was taken before or after? Do we know if he stashed it somewhere earlier? I know we don't like to wait for info and even then many don't believe what they are told, but we should probably wait for the conclusion of the investigation.mrussel1 said:

I was about to say the same thing. Not knowing when the picture was taken, or any other details of the shooting, it's impossible to answer the question. There are many possibilities.cincybearcat said:

Well let's think through this. If he stashed it earlier, he had to walk by cameras. Therefore that should be on video as well. We know he left with the rifle because it was found in the woods. How did he avoid a camera in teh middle of the day?mace1229 said:

Second, if he did actually stash it and the video was already deleted, that means he likely knew the data retention policy. For example, we keep all of our footage for 180 days. I can't imagine in today's world, where it is digital and not physical tape, that they would delete footage much before that.
Said another way, how could it be this guy without him being on tape somewhere with a rifle in hand, unless he planned it months in advance KNOWING the data retention policy?Post edited by mrussel1 on0 -
Could also be that he would have missed nine out of 10 times and this time he made it. And maybe even aimed for the body but hit the neck instead of missing.OnWis97 said:Like some of you, I don't know a lot about guns but I have to think that a 200-yard kill shot to the neck is pretty elite. Like my co-worker that hunts several types of live game could not do that and nor could a vast majority of actual police, military veterans, and gun enthusiasts. I could be totally wrong because I'm totally ignorant on guns but that seems like the four-minute-mile of shooting.
Not like someone would be able to shoot a prime minister in the back with a magnum at close range in central Stockholm and not get caught. But it happened in Sweden in -86. Doesn’t mean it was a pro. Or that the person wouldnt have been caught the nine other times.
Sometimes people will hit four aces in poker.

maybe they have images of him with the rifle but these are the clearest ones to release to the public.mrussel1 said:

Or he aimed for the torso but graced the earmace1229 said:
Thats why you aim for the middle of the torso. 6-8" off target in any direction with a high powered rifle is still likely going to be a kill shot.pdalowsky said:
Thats crazy, assuming you are right and he was a foot off target the chances of missing the target and hitting someone perfectly in the neck on the jugular must be very slim.mace1229 said:

Even not knowing much about guns/hunting, that’s a pro.
I do a lot of plinking with a .22. I feel pretty confident hitting a bowling pin with my .22 30-40 yards out with just the iron sites. I've only shot a scoped sniper/hunting rifle a couple times and was able to hit small fruit and a matchbox car at that range, maybe al little farther (took a few shots to hit the car).
I wouldn't imagine anyone aiming for the neck, so the shooter was probably a foot off target. At 200 yards, being a foot off target, if he had a good scope and low wind, and good position, I would think an average hunter or average hobbyist with a little experience could make it. But it's not someone who went out and bought his first gun last week.
If the Butler sniper aimed for the torso instead of the head, we'd probably have a different president right now. He was inexperienced, new to guns, and probably thought snipers always aim for the head and he missed (just barely)."Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"0 -
All that first part might be true. We don't know what they have and haven't released yet. They may have all those videos and pictures you're asking about and just haven't released it yet. Its only been 24 hours, I suspect we know very little of what the FBI does.mrussel1 said:

What makes this a FBI thing and not a Utah police thing?
"Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"0 -
Probably the high profile nature of it, his connections to Trump and a political party and calling it an assassination.Spiritual_Chaos said:What makes this a FBI thing and not a Utah police thing?
Local and small police have reached out to the FBI before when they get stumped or need help. I'm sure it wasn't even a choice this time.Post edited by mace1229 on0
