So the thing I always thought was weird about Kirk was his schtick. Why should I be impressed with a 30 year old man debating college kids? WTF is that all about? He does this for a living, he's a grown-ass man, and we were supposed to be impressed by it? Just strange. Maybe it was cute when he was 23 but Jesus, if I couldn't beat a 19 year old in a debate, I'd be mortified.0

Yup, I’d bet on that. I bet they know more than they are sharing for sure. The public, if not in harms way, doesn’t really need to know anything at this point.Gern Blansten said:

disagree. saying on national tv after a guy gets assassinated "You can’t say these awful words and not expect awful actions to take place.". That is deeply irresponsible and you should get fired over that.Gern Blansten said:

It was a clunky way to say 'sometimes the things we say have consequences' and hes not wrong. Now we obviously don't know the shooters intentions, and Kirk didn't deserve to die for his beliefs, but he did say and believe inflammatory things. Concluding that it may have upset someone to do this, while premature, is not unreasonable of a conclusion.

Thats why you aim for the middle of the torso. 6-8" off target in any direction with a high powered rifle is still likely going to be a kill shot.pdalowsky said:
Thats crazy, assuming you are right and he was a foot off target the chances of missing the target and hitting someone perfectly in the neck on the jugular must be very slim.mace1229 said:
To give you some idea from my perspective. I only go target shooting 2-3 times a year, used to be a little more often.HughFreakingDillon said:When I think of that in terms of:
-2 football fields
-elevated
-open air (accounting for wind)
-kill shot target
-single opportunity
Even not knowing much about guns/hunting, that’s a pro.
I do a lot of plinking with a .22. I feel pretty confident hitting a bowling pin with my .22 30-40 yards out with just the iron sites. I've only shot a scoped sniper/hunting rifle a couple times and was able to hit small fruit and a matchbox car at that range, maybe al little farther (took a few shots to hit the car).
I wouldn't imagine anyone aiming for the neck, so the shooter was probably a foot off target. At 200 yards, being a foot off target, if he had a good scope and low wind, and good position, I would think an average hunter or average hobbyist with a little experience could make it. But it's not someone who went out and bought his first gun last week.
If the Butler sniper aimed for the torso instead of the head, we'd probably have a different president right now. He was inexperienced, new to guns, and probably thought snipers always aim for the head and he missed (just barely).0 -
I think he exercised poor judgment as to when to make that statement. If you say it in six months, you probably don't get the heat.Tim Simmons said:It was a clunky way to say 'sometimes the things we say have consequences' and hes not wrong. I think it was even earlier than 23. He started his Turning Point thing when he was 18. Maybe he didn't start going to colleges right away, but he was pretty young when he did. If you had been doing it since you were college age, it's what you were known for and made you millions, would you stop just because you turned 30? Assuming you had no issues with any other part of the program.mrussel1 said:So the thing I always thought was weird about Kirk was his schtick. Also, I don't think his goal was ever to impress anyone. It was like the Jay-Walking that Leno would do. He takes clips that make young adults look stupid and makes videos of it. Leno was doing it 30 years ago. You just need a YouTube channel instead of a network now.0 -

Well I’d be embarrassed to debate college kids at 30. But really it was comedy? That’s not true. It was organized and set up to debate, not man on the street, get a few yucks.mace1229 said:

Maybe not comedy, but the same end goal. To get views. He gets those views by selecting which debates to upload. And some of them are very funny.mrussel1 said:

Kids line up for hours to debate, but yet we see just several minutes at a time. I don't think he live streams the whole thing does he? He's selective on which ones to publish based on what he thinks will grow his following and get more views, often time picking ones where his opponent just appears dumb, like in the Jay walking segments.0 -
