Just posting my frustration with healthcare.
My wife's doctor thinks she may have an uncommon disorder that amplifies her arthritis more. Closest specialist is almost 3 hours away. It took a few weeks for the referral to go through. She heard back last night.....next available appointment is January 2026! Yes, 2026.
I understand it's a specialist and there's just limited doctors, but over a year? Come on.0 -

Ridiculous
She ended up driving to Indianapolis to see a Dr...maybe 3-4 weeks after diagnosis. It all turned out good but what a fucked up system.Remember the Thomas Nine !! (10/02/2018)

I don't know why so few people want to become doctors anymore, but I've heard some say that there's just too much paperwork to do these days and others are frightened off by the law suites filed by ambulance-chasing lawyers.
Anyway, glad your story had a happy conclusion.0 -

I don't even remember what she might have now, I've never heard of it. But the symptoms are pretty similar so it's been masked for a while. Nothing life threatening, but things like fatigue and swelling in hands that are compounded with arthritis. She's spoken to her arthritis specialist and general doctor, basically there's nothing they can do other than suggest see the specialist, he's the only one that can determine if that's what she has or not. And looks like there's only 1 in the state. So it's a 13 month waitlist to see him.
I don't think it will change a whole lot other than give more documentation to try and stay on Humira or something like that. And maybe get on disability since she's stopped working a few years ago largely due to her arthritis (and having young kids at home), but was considered too young to qualify for anything. When she was working she'd come home and just sleep for literally 14 hours then get up the next day.
And the copays are insane. It changes often, right now I think it's $600 a month for Humira. Luckily for us she's been a "loyalty" patient because she's been on it so long or something like that, so Humira will reimburse her for all but $5 of the cost. But if we were to be new to it, we'd be paying it all.Post edited by mace1229 on0 -
That’s crazy mace! She’s been thru so much. I have an autoimmune disorder as well so I truly understand what she suffers with on a daily basis. And kudos to you for being such a supportive husband. I wish you all the best. These diseases aren’t life threatening but the number one cause of death amongst those with autoimmune issues is suicide. Having a supportive family makes all the difference. Good for you!0

I immediately assumed it was a revenge killing, because the insurer let someone die for profit. I would think this man had a million enemies. Could have also been a political thing. It will probably be really hard to pin down a culprit.Amazing how they mobilize when the dead person is rich and influential, but are so totally stretched for resources and time when a "normal" gets murdered.Post edited by PJ_Soul onWith all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.
