Not saying she shouldn’t have retired , however people a hell of a lot younger than Feinstein are shutting down the govt simply because their lord trump hates democrats. Maybe we have far worse things impacting DC than a 90 yo woman. Her near death state was still more productive than the entirety of the young and rebellious GOP. Youngster tubberville shut it down much longer on his own. Feinstein missed votes bc of shingles complications. Besides , what laws didn’t get passed that would have with a split congress?
if someone is repeatedly sick bc of age, I agree, time to retire. But respecting elders has taken a strange turn in America. More people are concerned about Bidens age than trumps illegal activities. How many days has Biden missed due to illness? Yet his age is a top concern.
I care more about the sitting president's health and mental state than a former president's shenanigans (that he should go to jail for if convicted).
The left loves science so much, but repeatedly tells us to ignore it. We aren't respecting elders because we think the President is displaying signs of aging that we think would inhibit their ability to do the job. Ridiculous. Until Musk/Google figure how we can live forever, everyone on this planet has died and gone through the aging process. It is scientific fact that people age and for many their cognitive functions and abilities decrease with age. Fact. We can argue whether Biden still has it, but it has nothing to do with disrespecting elders.Post edited by bootlegger10 on0 -
Trump being able to play golf at his age is pretty good I would say. He is overweight, but I'd sign up for eating McDonalds and playing golf at 78. I'd rather be more fit, but I would think Trump is doing better than most 78 year old men.0

In a lengthy letter to Democratic colleagues Tuesday, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) cast the predicament facing House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) as one of Republicans’ making and said they would be voting to oust McCarthy given the GOP’s “unwillingness to break from MAGA extremism in an authentic and comprehensive manner.”
Jeffries blamed House Republicans for unleashing “chaos, dysfunction and extremism on hardworking American taxpayers” by supporting a new rules package, backing out of a funding agreement with President Biden, attaching “radical provisions” to a defense bill and launching an impeachment inquiry without a full vote on the House floor, among other things.
“We confront a serious, solemn and sober moment,” Jeffries wrote. “The vote that the House will cast this week in connection with a Motion to Vacate the Chair is not about any one individual. Our responsibility as Members of Congress relates to the Constitution, the principle of good governance and the people we are privileged to serve. Nothing more, and nothing less.”
Jeffries said Democrats remain willing to find common ground on “an enlightened path forward.”
“Unfortunately, our extreme Republican colleagues have shown no willingness to do the same,” Jeffries said. “It is now the responsibility of the GOP members to end the House Republican Civil War.”
Rep. Katherine M. Clark (Mass.), the No. 2 Democrat in the House, has sent out official guidance to her caucus, echoing Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries’s earlier remarks to vote against delaying the motion to vacate and also to vote to remove House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.).
She said if there are further votes Tuesday on House leadership, additional guidance will be sent to Democratic lawmakers.
Rep. Nancy Pelosi (Calif.), who served as the House’s Democratic leader for two decades — including two stints as speaker, said Tuesday that Republicans should be the ones to decide the fate of Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.). Despite holding a similarly narrow majority as McCarthy does, Pelosi never faced a public challenge to her authority.
“The Speaker of the House is chosen by the Majority Party,” Pelosi said on social media. “In this Congress, it is the responsibility of House Republicans to choose a nominee & elect the Speaker on the Floor. At this time there is no justification for a departure from this tradition. The House will be in order.”

I've said it here a few times. Pelosi is the best speaker since O'Neil, then going back to Johnson. She held the caucus together and a vote never hit the floor without her knowing the whip count.
Remember when the progressives threatened to not back her in 18? How long did it take her to crush that rebellion? Not even a news cycle
The contrast to McCarthy is embarrassing.

And when asked this week what she thought the Ds would do, she answered "Follow Leader Jeffries". That's it. That's how she ran it and how Jeffries did as well. They let McCarthy twist in the wind and then go down. It's his own fault for being spineless, unreliable and unwilling to keep the deals he made.

I'm putting this here mainly because I can't stand the thought of a thread with the name Robert F. Kennedy in it. Please, someone tell me I'm just being overly paranoid this early in the game. The part I'll put in bold letter here gives me the heebie jeebies. Sheesh...
Kennedy has polled relatively strongly against Joe Biden, the incumbent Democratic president. Standing next to no chance of winning the nomination, however, Kennedy’s announcement of an independent run was trailed last week. The announcement is set for Philadelphia on Monday.
Polling shows the potential for a third-party candidate to pull votes from both Joe Biden and Donald Trump, the president’s expected challenger in what would be a contest between aging and unpopular candidates.
This week, a Reuters-Ipsos poll showed Kennedy “could draw the support of about one in seven US voters”.
Some observers think Biden likely to sustain worse damage from a strong third-party candidate, perhaps handing the White House back to Trump: a twice-impeached ex-president who faces 91 criminal charges, 17 over election subversion culminating in the January 6 attack on Congress, as well as assorted civil trials.
Nonetheless, Kennedy’s links to rightwingers including the mega-donor Timothy Mellon and Steve Bannon, a close Trump ally, have been widely reported and his more extreme stances could see also pull support from Republicans.
