Aiden McCarthy’s photo was shared across Chicago-area social media groups in the hours after the July 4 parade shooting in Highland Park, accompanied by pleas to help identify the 2-year-old who had been found at the scene bloodied and alone and to reunite him with his family.

On Tuesday, friends and authorities confirmed that the boy’s parents, Kevin McCarthy, 37, and Irina McCarthy, 35, were among seven people killed in the tragedy.

“At two years old, Aiden is left in the unthinkable position; to grow up without his parents,” wrote Irina Colon on a GoFundMe account she created for the family and Aiden, who was reunited with his grandparents Monday evening.

Maybe he's not wondering. You gotta think he was right there with them when they were gunned down. Maybe his little two year old brain somehow knows.

In any case, at least the gun laws worked and the shooter's god given right to bear arms wasn't violated. I'm sure that will bring this child some comfort when he grows up.

Dallas Cowboys recently partnered with a company called "Black Rifle Coffee."

I'm generalizing here a bunch.. but this is what's wrong with the USA.  Like... in a nutshell. The more you look at this story, the more it becomes painfully obvious that America is just an odd, odd country with very unethical priorities.

The gun debate is one thing... but to me I look at this story and I can't help but wonder how stuff like this got normalized. the glorification and exploitation of guns.  It's just weird.

I get marketing. I fall prey to it quite often... especially with Pearl Jam.   Like if I had to choose between Pearl Jam brand coffee and Folgers... I would go with Pearl Jam because that's my thing and probably pay more. And if it was sold through 10C, probably quite a bit more with remarkably high shipping.  :)

Folks are looking at coffee and saying to themselves 'well obviously I'm going to buy the AK-47 themed coffee or the silencer themed coffee' because that's their thing.  How did that become their thing?!

You don't think drinking "Murdered Out" flavored coffee made by a company that fetishizes weapons of war in a society that sees mass shootings on a regular basis is totally normal?

Totally normal.  Nothing to see there.  Every country has that same coffee company.  lol

Just like every country has banks that give out guns as rewards for opening up a savings accounts.

My goodness... when you read it back it's just so absurd.

    WTF?

    https://www.huffpost.com/entry/tucker-carlson-women-weed-highland-park-shooting_n_62c50239e4b06e3d9bae1a77

The right-wing commentator blamed social media, porn, video games and drugs for the actions of men accused of mass shootings.

“They are high on government-endorsed weed, ‘smoke some more, it’s good for you...’” Carlson said.

Carlson proceeded to claim that gunmen in massacres think they’ll be “worse” off than their parents.

“And yet the authorities in their lives ― mostly women ― never stops lecturing them about their so-called privilege.”

Collaboration with the crown ain't normal either. Unlike the other English speaking countries , America fought for its independence.  Unfortunately a by product of that is the gun culture

Yup, pretty normal to see an advertisement like this embedded in the middle of a news article about a mass shooting. In fact, gun violence in ‘Murcia and the militarization of ‘Murican society is normal too, tactical this, tactical that, bulletproof this and bulletproof that. Great country because GoFundMe when the victims can’t pay for their funeral or kids are left without parents.

I find myself wondering, "What can I do?". As it has been stated before, the majority of Americans are in favor of stronger firearm restrictions/regulations.

Lobbyists, kooks, zealots, and panderers seem to be calling the shots nowadays. Dems usually bring a knife to the gunfight (pun intended), and get steamrolled. Unfortunately, the streamrolling seems to get worse without even minimal opposition.

The system appears to be broken. For the people? Of the people? By the people?

Who knows why these polls come out with these results, but when trump shatters gop voting records and gets 75 million votes after pollsters assured us Biden would win in a land slide or at worst a clear comfortable victory, this proved polls are more unreliable, four years after they assured us we’d have a woman president.

Many of these loyal gop voters are one issue voters (pro guns and/or abortion ban). Don't trust the polls, trust their votes. This is what they want, and there are millions of them not being polled accurately. Look at how many states and counties the Dems are not even competitive before assuming these opinion polls have any accuracy.

When you figure the answer out please share because I’ve been asking myself how we’re going to stop this.  Spot on about dems.

Look at how many states and counties the Dems are not even competitive before assuming these opinion polls have any accuracy.
what would be considered a landslide? he won by 7M votes.
    Darwinspeed, all.

Maybe they were referring to tRump's definition of landslide.

He lost the popular vote to Clinton yet won the EC 304/227. Biden over tRump 306/232 with popular vote

    so yeah...."landslide"

IDK what defines a landslide, but 7M votes definitely feels like a clear comfortable victory.

Cmon, y’all know pop vote is meaningless and Biden won by about 40k votes in three states. Certainly much closer than the polling indicated, especially polling in these specific states

yeah, but those 3 states aren't the whole story. you are cherry picking data to make a point. he won handily in the other battleground states that he won.

270 electoral college votes are needed to win, Biden got 306 to Trump's 232.

"What can I do is a good but difficult question."   I used to think I had idea about that, but I don't any more.
I think For the People/ Of the People/ By the People had been mostly a facade for a long time and that the curtain has been pulled away and people with power (I'm talking mainly about the radical right) based on self-interest and ego have gotten away  with all kinds of havoc and are being  supported by fanatics who generally are poorly educated and don't use good judgement.  Things like this historically seem to cycle, so I'm guessing we will probably eventually see a return to a better balance, but I would be surprised if this happens any time soon.  Not that it's about "me", but I don't expect to live long enough to see that happen, but I try to hold a glimmer of hope for that.
“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”
