    I live in the land of big diesel pick up trucks with horrible mileage ratings everywhere I look. I am thankful for my little Jeep Patriot.

    I often feel the same way.  I drive an older ranger, which isn't great on gas, but I use transit to get to work, so most months I only have to buy one tank of gas.  Maybe a little more in the summer for camping adventures.   So the increase in gas prices, while not driving a fuel efficient vehicle, isn't that big on me, because i don't burn much gas.

    I agree, guys.  I've been criticized for saying this before (watch, lol), but honestly, gas being more expensive is not necessarily a bad thing.  Yeah, if it's just lining the pockets of CEOs, not so good.  But in a closer-to-perfect world, if gas were $10 a gallon, some great things would or could happen:
    -People would drive less/ carpool or take transit more.
    -The air would start getting cleaner and global warming would slow down.
    -Trucking would become more a localized thing and rail systems could revitalized.  Trains are the most efficient weigh-per-energy unit of all forms of transportation.  We would be wise to ramp up rail use big time!
    -The extra profits from gas could be used to develop clean energy.

    All of that makes perfectly good sense.  But will any of it happen? 

    I would disagree because not everyone driving a gas guzzler just bought a new expensive SUV. 15 year old family cars that are the only ones a low-income family could afford don’t always get great mileage. If you just spent 80k on a new SUV you could probably afford a couple bucks on gas. If your budget for a family car is $1000, you probably can’t.

    my buddy in Fresno told me it was $4.80 something yesterday.  He traded in his Ram for some type of Hybrid last summer.  I'm sure he is really happy about that choice now.  

    went up like 25 cents in one day near me, It's now like $4.20 here.

    Sounds like a smart move!  Another smart idea is for us to learn how to reduce our driving by combining errands into fewer outings, live closer to work, use public transit, carpool and ride share, etc.  These will all become far more the norm in the coming years anyway, so may as well start now.

    Did some research and compiled some data....here's the national average on gas prices based on presidential terms.....

    Bush (average over 8 years)  $2.34
    Obama (average over 8 years)  $2.97
    Trump (average over 4 years)  $2.52

    Average national gas price was $2.38 when Biden was sworn in. 

    Currently the national average is $3.83 based on AAA as of today March 4, 2022.

    I'm very interested to see how this trends over the next couple years.  With wages & inflation going up.

    Sadly the public transit and housing infrastructure in relation to being close to work isn't always there, but I agree it would be nice if it was!

    I paid $5.39/gallon yesterday in Los Angeles.  We have the highest gas prices in the country due to the high excise taxes inmosed by the state of California.

    1.73 litre I. Southern Ontario.  Forecast to go up 11 cent on the weekend.

    High gas prices don’t benefit poor people.  Many who don’t drive and use public transit are having even more trouble just meeting their daily needs…but hey let’s have 10 dollar gas and starve poor people…

    I paid 1.65 a litre Thursday night and by Friday morning it was at 1.72. This is insane. Cost me $42 for 1/2 tank of gas in my Honda civic. Last yr it would only take me between $40-45 to fill it. Gonna cost $80 to fill my civic soon if on empty, not looking forward to that

    I drive into work one day a week; Wednesday it was $3.61 in New Jersey, on my way home it was $3.93.  I was shocked and kicked myself for not filling up that morning.

    Damn! that sucks, sorry. Honda Civic's are pretty good with gas too (had one for like 13 years).

    I disagree.  Mainly because of the single mom or the guy in the trailer park who has to take that inefficient car to put food on the table.  I’ve got an SUV that only takes 93 octane.  That was expensive but it didn’t stop me from my regular purchases for the rest of the day.  That would hurt the people above.   Buses don’t run through every small town. They don’t come close to touching every part of a city without long walks and multiple rides.  Now that 30 minute drive to work is a 2 hour bus ride.   No easy solution there.  In regards to the other guy I think it’s lazy to hate on people who drive this or that.

    Imagine if/when people start commuting regularly again. Some people simply can’t afford it, regardless of the type of car driven.

    It’s close to $6 here in our area.

    Every damn conflict or catastrophe we've had resulted in higher gas prices and guess what?  Oil manufacturers announced record profits.  Buy oil stocks now folks.

    Stopped by Costco this morning and the price was $3.89 and around 60 cars were waiting in lines with me. I spoke to one attendant and he told me this started last week all due to the war in Ukraine.  

    I have a feeling this is going to get worse, I better fill up my other car tomorrow.
