I thought McConnell's statement would get more traction from this crowd.  I still can't believe he actually said that.

They always say the quiet part out loud so I’m not surprised. POOTWH made the dog whistles openly more acceptable. It’s been glaringly more obvious since 2008 that it’s “normal.” More on this later as time and paywalls allow.

It's the most believable of them all.

After all, he's the same creep who said, "The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president."

Oh trust me, I know what kind of person McConnell is.  And, seriously, racist or not, it boggles my mind that McConnell would say something that stupid.  Whether that is exactly what he meant to say or not isn't what surprises me the most.  I doubt those are the exact words he would use if he had it to say over again.  So what surprises me is that someone that stupid could rise to that level of power.

honestly I didn't see this one as a big deal. I think he just missed saying "other" or "fellow" before "Americans".

One problem I'm seeing with this thread is like of citation.
I'm beginning to think starting this thread was a mistake.

I didn’t think it was a big deal. Yeah you can pick at it grammatically and say he didn’t include African Americans as Americans. But he clearly meant African Americans vote in the same percentage as America on average. Which, if true, is a good point about all the fuss over voter laws.
It makes for a good haha moment to poke fun at, look at what he said. But nothing worth fussing over.

missing the word "other" is not in the same universe as saying "you ain't black". again, I could be wrong. Maybe he said it intentionally, but I was responding to Brian's surprise by saying that's how I took it.

Ummmm yeah that's clearly what I am saying by posting this dumb quote by our current president.

It's ok Putin...just make it a minor incursion....

It was a really dumb thing to say at this point....which I thought was the purpose of this thread?

I agree with Hugh.  While it sounds really bad, I do not think it was some slip...just came out different then it should have.  WHich tends to happen when you you talk on camera a lot.

I completely understand it being in this thread cause it is a head scratching comment for sure...

he's mocking me because of my reaction to Gern's "not a big deal" about biden saying that "you ain't black" quote. he's trying to portray that I'm hypocritical in some way. I see them as completely different statements, but whatever.

I'm not mocking you. It appears you and others are minimizing an overtly racist comment from McConnell. Has nothing to do with Biden's remark.
