You've got all the Tater bourbons.  Just missing the Eagle Rare.

From what I hear, people pay extra for Blantons...  The 107 is getting rare too.  My local upcharges them so I don't buy them anymore.

How was the Blade and Bow?

I have never seen Weller on a shelf.  My first bourbon hunting trip I snagged a Col Taylor but had no idea at the time I would never see it on a shelf again.

I am committed to making a trip to Buffalo Trace Distillery every six months to get whatever they have available that day. You can only buy a single bottle every six months from their gift shop but you don't know what they will offer that day until you get there.

I bought Blanton's there in August for $69/bottle....if I go tomorrow and they offer Blantons again I wouldn't be able to buy it. BUT...if they had Weller or Col Taylor/ER/Stagg that would be a plus

edit: I just checked and the rule is every 3 months....I need to get my ass back down there

That's wild.  I'm in the Indy area and have joined a few bourbon groups on FB. Those people are insane...like visiting every liquor store daily to see what hit the shelves and reporting it to everyone.

I save my Blanton's and Col Taylor for special occasions.

That 4R is one of my favorites.

I’ve had one bottle of Weller SR- paid $19. I’d like 107 but the most I would pay is $50. The others I’m just happy to have tried at a bar.

Weller 107 for $50?  Wooh boy, sign me up!

That 4 roses and Taylor are everyday bottles and are good bottles to get.  It is their counterparts that are the more rare and never see a shelf.

I have been seeing people drinking older bottles from the 80's and 90's and they say that the taste is completely different from today.

    Anyone had that fortune?

It's "Northside Bourbon and Whiskey Club"....I'm not an admin and I don't know what their rules are for raffles but give it a go.  I'm sure someone will pay a ridiculous price.

My buddy and I were both born in 1981 so we tracked down an unopened bottle from that year.  Drank some a couple of weeks ago. It was a fun experience, but nothing mind blowing.

Interesting.  Someone did mention that a 90's bottle of Blantons is much better than an 80's or current.  I am not paying anyone a premium to find out, lol.

    Thanks for sharing though.

I might go through my Aunt & Uncles cabinet and see if they have any swill from back in the day, lol.

Shit, I now find myself preferring scotch over bourbon/rye.  RIP my wallet.  SVRDhand13 said:

100%!  I always loved Scotch but bourbon was far more accessible.  I had maybe 20 Scotch bottles in my collection, nothing fancy, mostly just standard stuff you can find anywhere.  Since I joined the SMWS and it was game over.  The shit you can get from them is on a complete different level.  I've gotten probably 20 bottles from them in the last year and they've all been outstanding!  It's expensive, but it's some of the best Scotch you can find, and it's delivered to your door.
I've never hunted bourbon, but have a decent collection...most of the good stuff acquired from friends who do hunt, and store lotteries.  The extent of my hunt is me being in a store and wandering over to check for anything fun.
I've said it before and I'll say it again.  Bourbon, even the best, has a flavor and nose profile of say 100.  Scotch is closer to 1000.  Far more unique, far more complex.

What’s the deal with that one? All the whiskey memberships I’ve done I’ve felt to be a bit underwhelming, but I’d definitely be interested in a scotch one

You are better off going to your local and talking to them and buy your own.  I do that with Bourbons.

I guess it’s sort of like bourbon barrel picks.. they buy individual casks from distilleries then bottle and sell them at cask strength.

For anyone that is into Irish whiskey, is Redbreast 12 good and worth the price as a $65-$70 bottle?  My Irish whiskey experience stops at Jameson.

Red breast is one of my favorites and well worth it.   If you like peat flavor try Connemara Irish whiskey.
I'll ride the wave where it takes me......
