    So now the vaccinated are being asked to mask up to protect the unvaccinated.  Not real sure but some might say this is karma.

    I'm curious in a jeopardy answer kinda way what Pfizers cost for developement was. What their contracts were worth for the US orders and then balance those against what they expect to earn from the booster program. cuz we are talking a couple billion doses...

    as for pfizer, its smart to get ahead as much as possible. given the truncated trial periods, we are in a mass real world trial of the backend effectiveness and the major unknown in varients that have emerged and those yet to come to boot.

    It looks like Isreal's academics have updated their Pfizer double dose efficacy of preventing serious illness data (based on delta) down to 80% instead of 90s%.

    They also started third doses on immunocompromised last week.

    80% is still damn good, isn't it? I might have to talk to my daughter's specialist (immunocompromised 15 year old).

    Yes, in the sense that they were originally aiming to get a vaccine with 50% or better efficacy.

    We also have an immunocompromised family member and have been communicating with their doctor to get the most recent info and advice; that's the highest-risk group, so talking to the doctor sounds like a smart move.

    Edit to add: It sure does seem like a third dose is going to be recommended for that group very soon.

    I think the annual flu vaccine has something like 40% efficacy, so even the J&J shot is awesome by comparison.

    We're back to mandatory masks in my pocket of BC. High cases of unvaccinated 20s, 30s. 

    I started sporting them last 2 trips in mall. Was fun while it lasted!

    Meanwhile Israel reported a whopping 1 death yesterday to COVID and have averaged under 10 for almost two months now. With an astounding 149 patients currently  in serious condition. A country with over 9 million citizens. If they claim 80% then it’s clearly good enough to effectively end the pandemic there. Bottom line, don’t believe everything you read. If they claim all these patients are on ventilators why are none dying? They must have some great ventilators. There have been some ridiculous reports, both good and bad coming out of Israel for a while now. They are about as credible as the CDC or WHO at this point. Hospitalizations and deaths are about the only two metrics I concern myself with anymore. Especially since those numbers are harder to manipulate. Most everything else is just noise at this point. Being spun to benefit someone’s narrative,
