and how do you fix it? either they are appointed, or elected. we got trump by election, and kavanaugh by appointment. seems to me about the same result, just a different process.

republicans can complain about the same thing. how liberal judges are eroding the fabric of amerca's values. it goes both ways.

can you point me to a recent ruling where an obvious partisan ruling was black and white and should have gone the other way had they been, in your opinion, objective about it?

an idea which seems reasonable to me is 18 year terms in the current 9 justice iteration. perhaps even shrink by one to 8 for 16 years. every 2 years a justice leaves the court and a new one appointed. every president gets 2 nominees cycled in the  2nd and 4th years of an admin term by say april or may of a given year so as to not interfere with election cycles.  bar the senate from denying a vote on a nominee.
if there is concern about appointment in election year then switch to 1st and 3rd year nomination,  say nomination by july or august, vote by early september, seating a new justice in time for new court term in october......

at the same time we need to look at term limits for congress. before anyone says but we have elections for that, limits were placed on the presidency after fdr for a reason.  they can and maybe should also apply to the co-equal branches.

Mickeyrat's answer was excellent. I also think there could be some way to make the process completely non-partisan, but I don't have time to work that out at the moment.

The recent ruling that seem obviously partisan to me that first pops into my mind is the one on legalizing gay marriage. That was a 5-4 split and it should have been unanimous.

I shudder to think what might have happened if that ruling had happened just a little while later, after Trump stacked the SCOTUS in his favour.

And that....is politics in a nutshell. They're all the same. Hell, if there was a path to the presidency through the democratic primary, Trump would be at the border, with his arm around AOC's shoulder (or her waist, knowing him), lamenting the conditions at migrant detention centers.

i don't think they're all the same. I think there are many on both sides that are staunch "their team" and wouldn't switch. This guy either changed his mind or he's an opportunistic slime.

I agree 100% about trump, though. he would have easily run as a democrat if it had been open to him.

Well of course they're not ALL the same. It's hyperbole. I'm aware that some of these guys are more than dedicated to their team and would never waver. Hell, some won't give the other side the time of day to even negotiate.

Trump would have chosen to be a democratic president over a republican president. No question about it.

Ofc he wants to be loved by Bruce Springsteen and have George Clooney golf with him, instead of getting Ted Nugent and Dennis Miller.

He knows he is Sauroman being forced to hang out with the uruk-hai. But it was his only way to power.

And their mouth pieces, when directly asked if they were going to be okay with a dem POTUS in the future doing what Team Trump Treason has done, demurred and wouldn’t answer a “hypothetical.” It should have been followed with, “are you okay with what Team Trump Treason did?” But wasn’t.

Are deliverable babies capable of thought? Does the baby ask itself, “sure hope I don’t get aborted?” At what point, within the womb, do babies not care about a band’s forum?
Hard to say. I guess you could ask a little kid if they are glad to be alive or if they wished they were aborted.

Just a reminder that abortion should always be....

    A womans choice
    Affordable
    Available on demand
    Legal
    Safe

Old white christian male forced birthers should have no say in the matter.

The baby is trying to be born and live. The baby doesn't give a shit what the band thinks or what anyone else thinks on this forum.
Are deliverable babies capable of thought? Does the baby ask itself, “sure hope I don’t get aborted?” At what point, within the womb, do babies not care about a band’s forum?
Hard to say. I guess you could ask a little kid if they are glad to be alive or if they wished they were aborted.
Ask a little kid if they are glad to be alive or if they wished they were shot into a condom or a sock.
