Yes, he's very good at retail politics; listens intently, nods, gives non verbal cues.  Trump is terrible at it.  He is used to his bubble and reporters, who he can just shut down, insult or ignore. 

I was texting with my brothers about this last night....I was hoping for some tougher questions. Even if  those questions might be unfair-- just to see how he deals with them. Because he will certainly get a lot of nonsense thrown out him by the president in a couple weeks. 

WITH THAT SAID....that republican chick towards the end pressed him and I think he handled that question as well as he could have. Couple more like that would've been preferable. But all in all it was a good night.

Agreed.  But it's difficult to challenge Biden with really tough questions, certainly compared to what you would ask Trump.  At the end of the day, only one guy has a presidential record right now, and that's the downside of the incumbency.  That lack of record is what propelled Trump in 16, since he could say whatever the hell he wanted to say.  Now he will still say such nonsense, but it doesn't come off as biased for the press to call him out on this.  It's being a sycophant not to do so.

Based on how shitty he has been, just about every question is going to seem like a "gotcha" question.  He has a lot to answer for.

I don't understand the "softball" stuff.  Of course they aren't going to ask Biden about caging children, hiding COVID19 from the public, etc., because he hasn't done any of that.

Well they very well could have asked him about caged children. Isn't it common knowledge at this point that some of those photos that circulated about how bad conditions were with kids in cages were actually taken during Obama's term? So yes, that could have been a fair question to ask and allow him to defend or explain. Trump did have a stricter policy that lead to more children being detained, I'm not saying he didn't, but sure since it was such a big issue it would be a fair question. No reason not to ask him about other big topics, like him being against the China travel ban in January, which he has since denied being against. So if they were being treated equally the moderator would have quotes ready to interrupt and counter his answer with.
I'm not saying that's how it should have been handled. I actually don't like that, let the person finish then have a moment for a rebuttal. I was just pointing out the differences I saw based on brief highlights of the 2 and even added I'm not sure if those highlights are a fair representation of the evenings.
