    I had a roommate in college that almost got kicked out of the dorms because a psycho ex-girlfriend started spreading rumors that he sexually assaulted her...when the authorities got involved, her tune changed and she admitted she “was really upset about the breakup”.  She moved back home the next semester do to the embarrassment she brought upon herself.  Did she think that he would take her back if she ruined her life or??? I try not to meander to far into psychos’ motivations.

    It is a stupid saying, and it was a stupid saying when it was first uttered. It's unfortunate that it wasn't described as such at that time. Now it comes across as hypocrisy. (I mean from Democrats in general, not you in particular.)
    Yeah I don't know who started it, or said it, or repeated it.  But it was extraordinarily short sighted.  If you read the Politico article, and now teh PBS one, it's hard to argue that the accusation is credible.  There is just simply too much counter-evidence.

    Crazy. I'll be interested to hear more backstory. You can read between the lines a little in his twitter thread. Regardless, it's disappointing. I guess I hope Vermin Supreme wins the LP nom just for the entertainment value. At least voters can see he's nuts on the surface - for most of the other candidates, you have to wait until they speak.

    It's very hard for a 3rd party to gain momentum under normal circumstances.  Almost impossible under current conditions.  A certain waste of time and resources.

    I've been hunting around for info and the LNC is a dumpster fire. Like Jimmy said, it's a strange bail and I'll bet this was a big factor. They're digging in on decisions that are going to threaten ballot access and delay the nomination. I'm sure detailed stories will come out if anyone besides me cares. They'll be lucky to pull a fraction of what Gary Johnson got in 2016.

    I think the primary obstacle is the same for any third party: it’s a huge uphill climb and on the national level voting third is essentially throwing a vote away. Success would take a slow climb starting locally and growing toward the ability to compete on the national stage over a period of decades.  This is for any party.

    That said, you do make a point about this specific party; it’s tailor-made for purity tests.  In theory, things like Medicare and driver’s licenses should not exist...but most people don’t agree.  And either way, the smart move is to be pragmatic and get there after some easier hurdles have been cleared.  The hard-left has the same problem with impatience and not being able/willing to play the long game.

    I go back and forth on your first paragraph. 4.5 million people voted for Johnson in 2016. Obviously nowhere near enough to win, but they got 4.5 million people to go out and affirmatively check the box for a third party. Ultimately I don't think it's either/or. Do all of that work locally and run candidates wherever you can, but taking big swings in a Presidential election can pay dividends, too.
