    I wholeheartedly agree.

But for a presidential candidate to say that they would not do so even if it would heal the country (and again, I agree with you that it would not) is quite explicitly the very notion of party > country, is it not?

    It's a dick move.
No, it’s not a dick move. Obama claiming there was no interest in investigating or understanding the origins of the Iraq war (44 million missing emails) because he wanted to “heal the country” and move on, now that was and is a dick move.

There is a difference between actual “high crimes and misdemeanors” and pretend, made up out of whole cloth political witch hunts. Hard to believe and differentiate, I know.

Maybe. I don't take it that way but I see how someone could. I'm just glad he was definitive on the issue. I am so used to wishy-washy Democrats that statements like this are refreshing to me.

I still have this feeling that tRump will resign prior to the election (if he knows he is toast) so that Pence can pardon him.

I'd think he could do that between the election and the inauguration.

The ideal response is "I'm just running for President right now...we're getting way ahead of ourselves.  I'd let the DOJ do their job but I don't know more than that."

Still though, we're certainly holding him to a higher standard than the guy who talked about locking up his previous opponent during the election.

And who still hears it chanted at his rallies.

I personally would hate that answer. It may be appropriate in perfect times but these times are from perfect and there is no benefit to even entertaining in the slightest the idea of pardoning Donald Trump.

not a dick move at all.

trump is and always will be an impeached president that was let off the hook by barr, who chose to end the mueller investigation. trump needs to face the impartial legal system without his cronies meddling in it to tilt the playing field in his favor.

if biden pardons him, he will lose the left and the moderates and he will be a pariah.

trump ain't resigning. if he loses the election, the last 3 months of his presidency he's going to watch the country burn. and he's going to toss the match.

Probably true but I still have to wonder about that pardon.  He knows he's fucked if he loses.

Going after trump after he loses is about the dumbest thing anyone could do.  The man feeds off attention.  You would be feeding the monkey.  Worst fate for trump would to become obscure.
