“the experts all agree on one thing: Major festivals and large-scale concerts are unlikely to proceed in 2020” And that’s just talking generally, not specifically about CA and NY where the government has already given clear indications there will be no events in 2020 with large crowds. The article notes Newsom’s stance on the position. “California Gov. Gavin Newsom has been repeatedly vocal in his disbelief that any sort of mass gathering would be able to take place in the state before the end of the year.”

So will Aftershock. It’s just a matter of when. Not to make light of Covid-19 but why did this have to happen the year Pearl Jam releases the greatness that is Gigaton, Rage reunites, Fiona Apple changes music with her brilliance and so on and so on. Great year for music so far is all I’m saying.Post edited by pearljammr78 onPeace,Love and Pearl Jam.0

The deeper we get into this, the more likely it looks like that will possible.0 -
Anyone who thinks any sort of in-person concert, let alone festival, will be held this year or even well into next year, is just plain living in fantasy land. It's nice to see some positivity given our current situation, but you all are just setting yourselves up for disappointment. Our society needs a real vaccine, not only tested and developed, but manufactured on a widespread scale and then distributed to the majority of the population. That will take us minimally through the end of this year. Some experts are even saying the end of next year. I've completely written off this year, but that is just a given. What I'm worried about is it extending through next summer, which is a very, very real possibility. All that said, I don't know about anyone else who is on the layaway plan, but I don't feel good about paying out a large chunk of money every month through September. I'm hearing not much is coming from the festival organizers, so I'm thinking about just putting a stop payment on these and cutting my losses. Given the clusterf*ck with refunds from Ticketmaster and other businesses going on, I'd rather not pay out more money not knowing when/if I'll ever see it again.Post edited by AllNiteThing on24 years old, mid-life crisis

I think there is time to see if a treatment, vaccine (unlikely), or herd immunity arises before cancelling fall shows. No need to decide quite yet, give it a few more weeks to play out. And then cancel if we’re still nowhere.
That said, I think the postponements we have seen in the industry from spring to specific fall dates is a bit of promoter fiction in an effort to delay/deny refunds. I wouldn’t use that as a basis to think we will actually see fall shows.PJ: 2013: London (ON); Buffalo; 2014: Cincinnati; 2016: Sunrise, Miami, Toronto 1-2, Wrigley 2; 2018: London (UK) 1, Milan, Padova, Sea 2, Wrigley 1-2, Fenway 1-2; 2021: SHN, Ohana, Ohana Encore 1-2; 2022: LA 1-2, Phx, Oak 1-2, Fresno, Copenhagen, Hyde Park 1-2; Quebec, Ottawa, Hamilton, Toronto; MSG, Camden, Nashville, Louisville, St. Louis, OKC; 2023: St. Paul 1-2, Chicago 1-2; Fort Worth 2; Austin 1-2; 2024: Vancouver 1-2, LV 1-2, LA 1-2, Napa, Barcelona 1-2; Indy; Chicago 1-2; MSG 1-2; Philly 2; Boston 2; Ohana 1-2; 2025: FL 1-2, ATL 1-2, Nash 1-2, Pit 1-2.

As another poster pointed out, herd immunity is considered to be 70 percent. Right now the study estimates 4-5% have been exposed. It is a long way until there is herd immunity.
Based on results of the first round of testing, the research team estimates that approximately 4.1% of the county's adult population has antibody to the virus. Adjusting this estimate for statistical margin of error implies about 2.8% to 5.6% of the county's adult population has antibody to the virus- which translates to approximately 221,000 to 442,000 adults in the county who have had the infection. That estimate is 28 to 55 times higher than the 7,994 confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported to the county by the time of the study in early April. The number of COVID-related deaths in the county has now surpassed 600.

No, it’s not being spun as a negative. It is certainly good info the scientists need to understand the virus but where it was being “spun” was when it was presented in this thread as if it increased the likelihood for concerts taking place later in the year in California. In fact, that particular piece of data does not increase the chances of concerts happening in CA at all.Note what the scientist who led the study said: “With just 4% of the population infected with the disease, LA County is still very early in the epidemic, said USC professor Neeraj Sood, who led the study. “Many more people in L.A. County could potentially be infected and as those number of infections rise, so will the number of deaths, the number of hospitalizations and the number of ICU admissions,” he said.Post edited by Luckytwn1 on0

The lower than previously thought mortality rate implied by that study is good news, but if the contagiousness remains as high as it is thought to be, the study doesn’t move the needle on concerts happening. Ohana would be great, but a refund would be okay too.PJ: 2013: London (ON); Buffalo; 2014: Cincinnati; 2016: Sunrise, Miami, Toronto 1-2, Wrigley 2; 2018: London (UK) 1, Milan, Padova, Sea 2, Wrigley 1-2, Fenway 1-2; 2021: SHN, Ohana, Ohana Encore 1-2; 2022: LA 1-2, Phx, Oak 1-2, Fresno, Copenhagen, Hyde Park 1-2; Quebec, Ottawa, Hamilton, Toronto; MSG, Camden, Nashville, Louisville, St. Louis, OKC; 2023: St. Paul 1-2, Chicago 1-2; Fort Worth 2; Austin 1-2; 2024: Vancouver 1-2, LV 1-2, LA 1-2, Napa, Barcelona 1-2; Indy; Chicago 1-2; MSG 1-2; Philly 2; Boston 2; Ohana 1-2; 2025: FL 1-2, ATL 1-2, Nash 1-2, Pit 1-2.

I trust the doctors and scientists over politicians, social media and message board posters, but that's just me. Fauci and many others who know a hell of a lot more than us, say that large gatherings are a terrible idea and strongly advising against it for the rest of this year, and possibly through the end of next year, at the far end of the spectrum. That was directly stated by Fauci. Call it hysteria if you want, but I respect the experts. I also respect history, and if you look at the 1918 H1N1 pandemic, it came in multiple waves, and the subsequent waves came on worse, after restrictions were eased and lifted. The only way things will get back to normal is if/when this either just disappears, or we have a fully effective and distributed vaccine to the whole populace. It's not about negatives or positives or hysteria, it's the reality we are faced with. People who think everything's going back to normal by the end of summer, or fall for that matter, need to get out of fantasy land.

Oktoberfest in Germany is cancelled. Was supposed to be Sep 19-Oct 4.
I've seen quite a few Pearl Jam shows.0 -
Don’t worry, Trump will have Fauci fired for spreading fake news. We gotta get Mar A Lago and other Trump resorts open asap. Stimulus money will only go so far for President incompetence. He needs more military money and stuff funding his resorts. We will all be good when all these scientists and doctors just shut up and leave it in the hands of corrupt businessmen and politicians. They are the real heroes here people. Remember that.USA. First in cases and first in deaths. We’re number one. Thank god for washed up orange reality stars.Peace,Love and Pearl Jam.0

fwiw: Glen Hansard just said in his Instagram live show that it’s heartbreaking that he probably won’t get to play with The Frames this year. They’re only scheduled for two shows. Dublin on June 20th and Ohana.0
