$1000 bucks isn’t doing much if we are out of work for potentially months
Why are people complaining about this? We don’t know how long people will be out of work. This just says immediately send $1000, maybe there’s more.
And from the looks of it, most businesses still look open and many others are working from home. Seems unnecessary to send it to every American adult. Should be an application process where you prove you unwillingly missed work due to this. Most adults would probably get zero and those who need it may get more. But at this point I doubt very many, or any, are even out the $1000 yet. It’s been less than a week since places started putting in heavy restrictions. So why complain? It just gives credit to the argument “no matter what republicans can never do any good.”

kind of agree but remember republicans are against socialism.  Also agree with bbiggs. some will need this a lot more than others.  the scary part for people in these service industries, whether owners or just workers, is right now we have no idea how long they will be closed. this is mostly likely going to last at least 2 months. long time to be out of work.
I don’t like true socialism. But giving people relief after a disaster is not socialism. The only dumb part is giving it to everyone. Like I already said and yourself as well, not everyone will need it. In fact, my guess is a lot less people will be financially impacted with respect to their paycheck (pensions, 401k, etc is a different story) than those who are. I hate to say it, but I’ll be saving money. My paycheck will be the same, but not driving to work will save on gas, won’t have to pay for childcare for at least a few weeks. Our childcare provider will have a different story, but I bet fewer are in that boat. That’s why 1k tp everyone doesn’t make sense. Offer 1-5k to those who apply, approval and amount is determined by several basic factors. That would probably be the same or even less cost to the government in the end, but a bigger and better impact..

Me too 100%!  I have to stop watching the news.

Same here, guys.  We're not supposed to go out anyway (and I'm not) but I probably wouldn't anyway with my allergies making me snuffle.  I don't want to freak any body out, and it's safer here at home.

And yeah, as for watching the news, I'm with you there- gotta cut back on it.  I'm definitely going to cut back on doing that.  No really, I will.  Oh yeah, any time now, seriously, I mean it.  Like tomorrow or the next day or... you know soon, real soon! Really!
agree. I can’t wait till the allergies cause my cough. Should be easy to explain.

I have asthma. People who know me know that I pretty much always have some level of cough. It always flares up when the tree pollen gets going in the spring. So, some time soon I expect I may be asked to self isolate, even though it will be just my seasonal asthma flare up. I have no idea how to get around this, but have already started my steroid inhaler.

Because it's foolish baloney in a time of crisis. People's lives and livelihoods are at stake and childish memes passed off as real information is just asinine.
I mean, that last one you posted leads me to believe that you haven't done even the quickest scan of a single government readout, informed news article, or even the Google summary blurb provided for the damn Wikipedia entry for COVID-19/Coronavirus...
Start by reading something, anything, and then move on from there.

How do you explain this then? I honestly think the media and governments are overreacting and causing global anxiety.

I would start by suggesting you read through this thread, because there is a ton of good information and, until now, very little of ^this^ junk.
My more patient side would suggest you consider that this is a new virus which has not yet infected a fraction of the world population.  If/when as many people become infected with SARS-COV-2 as the pathogens at the top of that graph, the number of fatalities will absolutely dwarf them.
This is very basic stuff, which, again, leads me to believe that you haven't read anything of consequence on the topic, and are using Facebook memes as your primary information source.
You are better than that. Go

Maybe it's not alarming to you - but here's that same infographic as of its latest update on the 11th. Note that COVID-19 is up from 56 to 70. Any guesses on where it'll be on the next update? Also, they added a note - it may as well have been written just for you.

FWIW, the "Go" at the end of my post was an autocorrect add, it wasn't intentional.  My final statement was meant to be that you are better than that.  Stick around and get/stay informed.

Well I certainly hope this is the beginning of locking down all stupid conspiracy theory threads. I doubt it is.

I totally want to unplug from the news, but I don't see that happening if I'm being honest with myself.  I'm going to try starting a new series on Netflix or something tonight.  I told my wife we need to get our minds off of this for a while.

That's a great idea.  I hope our next Netflix disc shows up soon!  If not, we have several DVDs to watch.  I'm also looking forward to more reading time.  I've got three books lined up already I'm excited about reading.

I know you are being facetious, but for those following along, somewhere between 15-50 million.

    NorCal on lockdown (some counties)
Brian, guessing Placer was not one of the counties joining in the announcement today?

Not sure about Placer county, LOL.  I'm laughing because when I first heard about an opportunity to move to the Placerville area, I just assumed Placerville was in Placer county.  I guess I didn't know my own state's geography as well as I should have.  Placer county is actually north of here.  It's a weird ass narrow county that stretches all the way from Roseville down in the valley all the way up to the northwest shore of Lake Tahoe.

So anyway, Placerville is in El Dorado County.  Things are shutting down here very quickly.  We had to close down the bookstore and it will be shut down except for mail order sales (which is a small percentage of sales) for at least two weeks. I don't think there is an official shutdown in El Dorado County yet but some inside rumors say it will happen soon.  Fucking Coronavirus is wrecking a lot of businesses and lives.

My little on-line book business is doing better than it ever has lately but it's just something I do on the side for fun and chump change and since we aren't supposed to leave home I will probably have to put it on "vacation" very soon.  And my record sales are in the store which is closed so that is a no go as well.

What's that song called?  Unemployable?

And here I am without any internet service at home right now. I sure picked the wrong time to move and try to change providers   Don’t know when, or if, the new provider will be willing and able to come to install the new service.

Oh well - I’ve got plenty of books.
