Yeah it was like $6k for me based on some average spending. But in reality, it’s a little more since I didn’t spend that much.

How do you go about calculating what you’d lose under his plan? I’d like to figure that out.

I think people are looking at the short term instead of looking at the future. Which is normal. When we think of earning less each fiscal year, there's an immediate reaction to oppose it. But college has become a tremendous burden on most families. Paying more taxes of a few grand each year is nothing compared to the cost of putting several kids through college.

I did mine, and my effective tax rate goes up by 7 points.  But there's a hidden cost that is not on the website.  Most of Bernie's plan uses emplolyer taxes to fund the program.  His estimate is 7.5% of the employees salary  That's a fairly substantial increase.  Now before anyone starts talking about Amazon not paying taxes, that's an outlier and none of us work for Amazon.  Most companies, particularly small and medium businesses, pay a solid tax rate.  And there's no indication that it will replace the current employer obligation.  It appears to be additive.  So when you increase taxes by 7.5% X salary expense, that will translate to lower wages generally.  TNSTAAFL.
