The reality is that most of the time a person sees something that is not actually there. Certainly there is inherent racism in lots of our culture, that embeds over time. But it's also possible to be hypersensitive to it as well.

It has nothing to do with that noun. Using actual as a modifier during a comparative is quite common. And my sentence was at its core, a comparative.
