Stop shitting on my fantasy please.
LOL. How does it work? who gets to choose if the incumbent is primaried? the one who wants to run, or the convention committee?
    https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/elections/2019/08/22/these-few-republicans-may-challenge-donald-trump-2020/2087090001/

Good question.  I could be wrong but I don't think the GOP can prevent someone from challenging tRump.  It would be in their best interest to take the challengers in and go through the primary process, etc. to prevent a challenger from launching an independent bid which would be even more damaging to tRump.

I honestly don't think tRump has a chance in hell of re-election.  Someone will step up as an independent to siphon votes away from him.

The question was whether China would throw Trump a lifeline and have even a small deal to allow Trump to declare some sort of victory, or go to economic war, banking on him losing the election.  It appears the Chinese have chosen the latter.  It's so ironic that Trump has tied his political fate to China.  The Chinese can withstand a recession far more effectively than the US.

Obama was on the right path with TPP.  That was a long term play, but it excluded China from the deal.  It would have created economic incentives for companies to relocate factories to other parts of SE Asia.  But alas, we blew that.

It is unfathomable. Or should be. I appreciate what Dan Rather just posted: "We live in a world where the President of the United States attacks the Chairman of the Federal Reserve as an enemy, employing rhetoric he never dare used for a former KGB Agent who oversaw an attack American democracy. We were told there would be adults in the room."

Zombie Barbie's husband, George Conway, chimed in on Twitter with an "order" of his own:

I hereby order the White House staff to take to Walter Reed, and to convene the cabinet under Section 4 of the Twenty-fifth Amendment.

The two largest economies in the world are completely intertwined.  That's a far different scenario than Cuba.  It's not happening, and China knows it.  Also, China continues to target products from the midwest/swing states.  They are being strategic here.

Donald Trump can't just 'hereby order' whatever he wants

What is clear is why Trump is doing this: He's attempting to exert control -- even though he has no actual authority to do so -- over a situation that he feels he is losing control of.

Remember that Trump famously/infamously tweeted in March 2018 that trade wars are "good, and easy to win." The ongoing trade war with China has been anything but. It has led to a yo-yoing stock market and is now fueling growing concerns that the hard-chugging economy was showing signs of slowing, with some analysts seeing signs of a potential recession on the horizon.

Trump knows that if the economy goes south -- or is perceived to be stumbling -- he is in deep, deep trouble in 2020. The economy's strength has always been Trump's best chance of winning a second term in spite of his low approval numbers overall. But in a new AP-NORC poll, more people disapprove of Trump's handling of the economy than approve, a shift that, if it continues, spells disaster for the incumbent.

He also knows there are limited number of levers he can pull to change things. It's why he is throwing absolutely everything against the wall -- like a payroll tax cut! (Or maybe not!) And why he puts out tweets like he did on Friday in which he tries to assert control over something on which he has no formal control. It just makes him feel better, more in control of a situation that, in reality, he isn't in control of at all.

In Trump's world, the illusion of control is better than the acknowledgment of his relative powerlessness to force China (or American business) to his will. But just because he's hiding behind that illusion doesn't mean anyone else needs to.

Last I checked, congress hadn’t passed an embargo against China. Wee little bit different. The repubs in the senate are free to introduce legislation for a China embargo. Moscow Mitchy Baby, where art thou?
