To paraphrase Voltaire after he attended an orgy, once was an experiment, twice would be perverse.
A bruised Donald Trump announced a new presidential bid on Tuesday night, an invitation to double down on the outrages and failures of the last several years that Republicans should reject without hesitation or doubt.

    excellent opening too....

They had a similar article back in 2015 or 2016 too...before they eventually started supporting him. However that support came after a lot of the old staff left, but still...

Who is counting him out, though? As long as the majority of his cult like base sticks with him, he's not going anywhere...which is good news for those of us who want to defeat republicans in '24.

Kelly Ann CONway's hubby gives POOTWH a 40% "Always POOTWH" base. If they stick with him, as I suspect they will, he'll win the nomination and lose the general. Two years is a very long time in politics and so much can happen between now and November 2024 though. Brandon will be 81 going into an election year, may not run, it'll depend on who the dems put up and eventually, the repubs will rally around their nominee, like they always do, regardless.

I think DeSantis wins the republican primary if he runs against Trump.
And in that scenario, I think Trump would do everything in his power to sabotage his campaign for the general.
Or run as a 3rd party, taking 30% of the votes with him.

So, Trump running can be the best thing for Dems, no?
That's kind of up to the party and/or DeSantis. If DeSantis runs, it's a great thing for the Dems. If he decides to (or the party convinces  him to) wait four years in deference to Trump than we're right back where we were in 2020 with a 7-figure popular vote advantage and an electoral college nail biter.

I believe the party wants Trump to go away. I believe DeSantis wants to run. But I'm no longer surprised at anyone in that party deferring to Trump's wishes.

But there will be 6-7 other clowns running that split up the vote like in 2016 where he really only got around 35% in the front half of all the primaries. Also, if he’s indicted he pulls in the sympathy voters who will squeal “they’re coning for us” and “when does it stop?”
