Harper leads the majors in strikeouts and is batting .222. He's in his prime yet he looks like Ryan Howard circa 2014-2015 at the plate.
him and Nola haven't been very good yet they are still solidly in first place.  that's kept some of the pressure off him.

Only recently have I been even remotely concerned, though. Even when he was hitting in the .230's he had an OPS over .900, .950, but now it's definitely showing. But it's May so I won't freak out. Hahaha....THIRTEEN YEARS he has to look forward to this.
I was worried about the signing from the start because he had a down-year last year....at age 25. Everyone I'd say this to would shoot me down and say he's in the prime of his career and that I shouldn't put too much stock in batting average (.243 last year, 2nd lowest of his career not counting this year) and strikeouts (169 last year, his career high) when he draws so many walks and gets a lot of extra-base hits. Fair enough. But he looks worse this year than last year. It could just be a long slump (hopefully), or maybe he's a guy that shined bright for a few years, and has flamed-out (hopefully not).

Yeah I don't worry about the correlation from last year to this year, unless he's somehow carrying over the injury from last year which I don't think is the case.  It's a slump. He's never going to hit .300. All I want out of him is to hit in the .260-ish range and give me an OPS that hovers around .900. He's played 40 games as a Philadelphia Phillie.

Not sure why you mentioned he's been a Phillie for 40 games. It's not like it's football or basketball where you have to acclimate to an offensive or defensive system. Just go to the plate and hit the ball. And I don't think there's a "correlation" from last year to this year. Rather, I think it's more of a continuation. But I'll defer to everyone that has told me that there is no way that a superstar in his mid-20's can begin going downhill, so I'll just look forward to the end of the slump.

Isn't he historically streaky though? This is one super long streak but still. He'll eventually come around.

I think the fact that they're 8 over even with both him and Nola not being right is a pretty big positive.

Forget the part where he's a Phillie, emphasis on 40 games. As said above, he's incredibly streaky.

He's here for 13 years. Oh this is gonna be fun.

It's such a crazy contract. I'm shocked that so many people didn't even seem to bat an eye at it.

He's definitely pressing up there at the plate. He just needs to be patient and get in some more favorable counts.

I mean he's not just leading the league in K's, he's also leading the league in BB's. That's pretty much the game today, too - upward launch angle, take pitches.

If anything he's probably too patient right now. And the shift doesn't help. Ala Howard, he's another one I look at and wonder with the amount of power he can produce that he can afford to be late in his swing.

So here we are on May the 10th. Phils sitting at 21-16 with a healthy 4 game lead (6.5 over Nats).

Got 17 games in 17 days coming up including two series with the Brew Crew. How many wins are you guys seeing?

I think I'll be happy with them going 9-8.
    4-4 thus far

Nola looked great today.  Struck out 12 in 6 innings.  Kinda weird that he is 4-0.

Really impressive sweep after that Brewers series. I don't think they've had a losing streak longer than 3 games this year.

    Good sign, gents. Good sign.
