I like how Girardi rolls out his new closer the first two times in non save situations.
I know many people disagree but I think you hold your Closers for save situations unless they have not pitched in a crazy long time.
Use pitchers when they are most needed strategically, and don't let silly statistics like "saves" determine your strategy.
(FYI I didn't want to use "inane" in 2 straight posts)

I guess, if that is your strategy. Certainly many ways to go about it. I would not use the guy designated as the closer in a game that is out of reach. I dont worry as much about the statistic, more the scenario so the dude knows to picture whatever in his head he needs to picture for the time before he comes out of the pen feeling like he is a world beater.
Going back to Ball Four (loved that book!) I think of how they talked about the guys thriving on knowing their role. I buy into this.
I loved that play at the end of the top of the 9th last night where, on what should've been a pretty straight-forward tag-and-throw-to-first double play, Bohm began running back towards first leading to a throw to first to remove the force at second, and allowing the Realmuto run to count.
Son's of bitches are about to lose 4 of their next 6 aren't they?
If we're lucky...

Oh quit being a negative Nancy.
Lol....I'm just trying to decipher when it's safe to jump back all in with this ragtag group. Nats today, Mets this weekend and then the Dodgers followed up by one of the easiest remaining schedules.
I think this mediocre division will come down to the last day of the season.

Thank god it's a mediocre division. I'll take it. It's been 10 fucking years now.
Yeah even if we fuck this up, if we can make this a race all the way to the bitter end I'll be happy. I mean I'd much prefer them not to be the absolute prime example of mediocre. But I am fiending for some playoff baseball, even if it's only one game with a buncha dumb fucking anti vaxers that makes me truly loathe the makeup of this team.
Mets losing. Headed for the shore Saturday. I think I need to get this game in tomorrow night. Could leap frog these knuckle draggers with our equally dumb knuckle draggers tomorrow night, and get obnoxiously drunk & loud, and annoy the pitchers in the bullpen, and act like this means something.
If healthy the offense can be legit and can make me buy in. It's the atrocious bullpen and back end of the rotation. Just gotta squeak into the playoffs and they absolutely have a shot, because that's baseball now. I'll take Wheeler/Nola/Eflin(provided he's healthy) in a short series, they can match up with anybody.
Before being outed as a total fucking dirtbag and when we all thought he was normal I would take Watson every day of the week, but now I would give Hurts a shot if I were Little Howie.

He is the Closer for the Philadelphia Phillies.
i knew that part. The way he worded it sounded like he was dead or or something.
Only a game and a half out of first now. Of course they aren't playing too well today. Nola is getting on my nerves. He's only had a handful of really good games. The others he's pitching like crap.
