Random thoughts on Pittsburgh
My 13th Pearl Jam show.
The one downside. Not the best set. I love nearly every Pearl Jam song, but I thought for a while tonight they were touring for "Ten." In my mind I think of songs by what record they are on, and they skipped a whole era. There were upsides to the set, though. 'Man of the Hour' is such a great song, 'Waiting on a Friend' was awesome with the brief 'Honky Tonk Women' riff at the end. And they could play 'Rockin' in the Free World' every night and I would be thrilled.
Now the many plusses...
1. I LOVED the arrangement for 'Garden.' It needs work, but practice makes perfect. I think it will sound really cool once they nail it. Also, I am glad "Why Go" is making a comeback.
2. Even though he was goofy, I thought Bob Pollard was entertaining. I usually hate openers, but I didn't feel the need to leave when he performed.
3. Ed was very chatty and very funny tonight. And I agree with him, to all baseball fans, PLEASE vote for Jason Bay. There is still a little time left. His "Pittsburgh isn't our favorite place" speech was funny, too. I do think it is funny that he forgot the sky boxes playing with the lights last time.
4. Finally, the crowd. To everyone there tonight, you were all awesome!! I have seen about 45 different concerts in my life and I have never been in a crowd close to what this show had.
Well, 2 shows for 2006 have come and gone. Hopefully I get a chance to see them in 2007 to make what I never thought could happen---5 years in a row
To everyone on the west coast and abroad, have a blast at your shows. The band is on fireI love my female wife...

This was our third show this tour and I just have to say...WOW! This is the first time I heard them do 'Man of the Hour', so it was great for me. Just sitting in this hotel room, hubby fell asleep already, lol, its 3:47 am, I am too wound up to sleep, thank goodness I brought my laptop. Thank you PJ, thank you to the folks that set up the pre-party, it was great, and thanks to my fellow fans for making this such a killer night. Love & Peace, RoseCleveland, 2000

That show was ridiculously good! Once I heard the opening notes to Throw Your Arms Around Me I went nuts!!! Highlights for me were In Hiding, SOLAT, and RITFW. And oh yea...to all the people who sat near the back of Floor 7, you guys were freakin intense!!! Also met a bunch of friendly fans who sat around me, easily making this the best show I have seen live!!!0

haha I loved before or after (?) RITFW when Eddie was saying goodbye and goodnight, he said now he's "going to go ride motorcycles with your friend Ben Rothelisburger" or something like that...
How about that Jason Bay speech?? That was AWESOME! When Eddie said Jason Bay I started yelling VOTE FOR JASON BAY! I couldn't believe Eddie was telling us to vote for our boy for the All Star Game. That was awesome..I thought he'd talk football but he talked about the Buccos...
Ah and I hope one of the 2 Here We Go Steelers chants makes it to the bootleg...one was during the first encore, another was after Eddie said Pittsburgh wasn't their favorite place to play.
What a show!
EVERYONE on their feet the whole time..what a difference from Cleveland, the other show I went to.0 -
I love hearing that you guys all had so much fun, especially those of you who just saw your first show. I just saw my first one (ER1) 3 weeks ago and am still buzzing about it and felt the same way you guys do - it was the best of the several hundred concerts I've seen in my life BY FAR. I don't know if that would have always been the case or if the combo of the amazing new songs in the setlist plus the band's renewed energy are making 2006 especially kick-ass, but whatever it is, I hope they keep it up and swing back our way in 2007.0

It's 7:45am and I just got home from the show. I've been awake for 25 hours - drove 6 hours to pittsburgh - rocked out during the show - and drove back another 6 hours. It's my 3rd show this tour, and let me say it was so worth it! I am still pumped! I had great seats - 15th row dead center. It's the first time I could actually see (I'm only 5'1"). I had the time of my life. The band seemed to be well rested and had great energy. My highlights were Throw Your Arms Around Me (1'st time I've seen it live) and Smile. I really, really loved it!
And let me just say - Pittsburgh is great! I love my hometown and had a great time at both Camden shows, but it's really nice to see a bunch of people rocking out who aren't falling down drunk or vomiting on themselves. You guys rock! There's a light when my baby's in my arms0 -
OH My GOd what an incredible show. And I had incredible seats 3rd Row Center!! Random thoughts about the show.
Everytime I see them I think They cannot get better and I was wrong again. THey completely rocked last nignt! I thought it was the best version of Porch, Garden and what was that incredible, sexy end to BLACK! that I have ever seen them do. The crowd was amazing (as we always are here in Pittsburgh!). I loved the new songs live!!
Eddie was just amazing last night! It was my daughters first concert and she did not know what to expect. When he came out and starting singing the most beautiful version of Throw Your Arms around ME, she looked and me and goes, "OH my God IS this good" > SHe was hooked.
My favorite funny moment was during a BLISTERING, "Rockin in the free World when Eddie went running to the side of the stage to throw the tamborine, tripped over a cord(which he pulled out of it socket), and hit the floor face first! I was thinking, I hope he's okay. The roadie came running out and they re-plug the cord.
ALl I can SAy is WOWWW! I loved it!0 -
I just arrived home after a LONG wet drive from PItts to NYC. What a show!!! Nice to see that the band relaxed while they were off for a few weeks..... Eddie was chatty and funny.
He mentioned about being back next year.....
I'm not one to start rumors BUT....... I believe that they will swing around and hit the east coast one more time before they end the tour..... (a girl can dream cant she??!!??!!)
Thanks for making it a great show people... my section was so much fun!!!
See you in Cinci!!!!!A pessimist is a man who thinks all women are bad. An optimist is one who hopes they are.0 -

.
Ed was fucking sweet and yes, Jeff and Stone switched. Smile was definitely one of the highlights for me, first time I've heard that one live. Great show...band seemed to thoroughly enjoy being there. Definitely a top 3 show out of the nine I've been too. Probably the best Pittsburgh show I've seen.0 -
What's the deal with Waiting on a Friend? Did they play the whole thing? Acoustic or what? That's pretty f'ing cool that they played that, one of my favorite Stones songs.0

I was in the back of Floor 7! I wasn't rocking out as much as I should have, because I was so excited I could hardly move. Also, I don't get emotional very well. But I was moving, and sun every word to every song.Pittsburgh 6/23/06

They played it while seated, but not all acoustic. It sounded great. The percussion was different from the original, but the guitars were on and Ed didn't mess up the lyrics too badly. He had them on the floor in front of him.
It was a great suprise to hear. Would have loved to have heard Beast of Burden, but WOAF was a great touch!2000 Columbus, Pittsburgh

I've now seen PJ 10 times, and each show has been better than the previous gig. That is a testament to how great they are.
They went on at 9:00, ended at 11:30.
Instead of playing Master/Slave for the opening music (as they take the stage), they played the 'twinkling' music which is at the end of the new album after Inside Job.
Unlike the first leg of the tour, they got rid of the lasers. (I wasn't a big fan anyway.) They had 3 big lights that dropped down instead. Very cool.
They started Severed Hand like they did on SNL, and not with the actual 'reverb' sounds as on the album.
WorldWide Suicide was dropped down to the end of the first set - mixing it up a bit. Nice.
First time I saw them and did not hear Given To Fly. But getting I Got Id was a great trade - Ed's guitar was awesome.
Some myron behind me was yelling "I'm a Republican - Ed, you're an idiot!" yadda yadda yadda. Uh, dude, scoreboard says PJ won that battle - you paid $51 to yell stuff the band would never, ever be able to hear. Ha ha ha, sucka!
I have an extra Pitt 06 poster if anyone wants to trade. PM me!2000 Columbus, Pittsburgh

Just a quick note before heading to Cincy...
This was the 10th show and best "standard" show I've seen from them - (exluding State college '03 Neil Jam '04 and Philly '05).
Ed was drinking like a fish - finishing off the wine bottle by end of the main set. He came out with another and got about half way through it - so you'll hear on the boots Ed getting talkative as the show goes on - great / funny stuff!
Had awesome 10 club seats 3 rows back on the wings Stone's side - best view ever - though the sound is a little rough on the side like that.
Throw Your Arms Around Me was fun/beautiful - and Release as an opener - is there anything better?
Finally got I Got Shit - been waiting since 2000 to hear that again - In Hiding was great. Show had a great flow - never a down point. DTE early and WWS late was a nice change. Lucky to get SOLAT and Smile is always a treat. Of course, Waiting on a Friend was really cool/special to hear.
Oh well - hope this was the warm up for Cincy. I'm hoping they'll make up for missing in 2003.Pitt '98 - Pitt '00 - Pitt '03 - State College '03 - Hershey '03 - Toledo '04 - Pitt '05 - Philly '05 - Cleveland '06 - Pitt '06 - Cinci '06 - Bonnaroo '08 - MSG I '08 - MSG II '080 -
This was hands down the 2nd best PJ show I've seen... topped only by BJC @ State College but again... the 3.5 hour show with a broad range of songs. But man... the setlist for this show was beautiful! Ed's voice was well rested up... I haven't heard him that good since '03. McCready was cracking me up! He's so full of energy anymore. It's like he's been reborn.
The highlight of Ed's rambles for me was when he claimed they were throwing joints up onto the stage, and then he asked if someone could throw him a lighter and about 4 lighters went flying onto the stage. Ed didn't see them, at first, but Jeff surely did and started motioning for his side of the crowd to stop! After that, Ed made the comment, "Alright alright! I think we have enough lighters!" About 30 seconds later, he realized that it was a Marlboro Light and threw it down on the ground. Absolutely hilarious!
Next time, just throw an American Spirit or two and I'm sure he'll be more than appreciative.
I also have to thank the two great people outside with the limo after the show. The Capt. Morgan Tatoo really hit the spot! ("I want a hug, too..." "Do I still smell like Old Spice? Or is it just straight sweat now?") I've always said that PJ fans are the best! Especially when you can walk around the arena and shout "We are..." and get a "PENN STATE!" right afterwards! haha"... are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?"

i just wanna say that, by far, this was the most amazing show i've ever been to. i saw pj last with the stones....i have to admit, i felt like i got the short end of the stick, since they didn't have much time....i felt like they were gone before i knew it! i feel so much better now bc they played for so long and the crowd was INSANE! i still can't speak....i think i almost died when they played smile....that's def. one of my faves!!!!!
favorite parts:
1)Corduroy
2)Go
3)Smile
4)RITFW
*was extremely happy with his pre-opener of 'throw your arms around me'....love that one!*
i'm soooooooooooo sad it's over! i hope they come back to the 'burgh or at least state college soon! we PA people know how to show them love! the crowd interaction was nuts ---just freaking awesome! so glad eddie was talking to us...some boots he doesn't talk too much, nor do you hear too much crowd response....i cannot wait to download the boot!!!!!!
now- countdown to storytellers....!!!!
btw-what did everyone think of the goods at the show?*push me and i will resist*

I just woke up from last night show and my shoulders/neck are sore as hell and my shins are bruised from the seats in front of me.
I want to thank foxymop and the othe organizers of the pre-party because that was a great way to get my day going into pearl jam. And. The yeild wristband is fucking sweet.
The Show was incredible. Incredible. Garden was amazing and i loved I got ID. Man of the hour was a nice suprise and do the evolution shined like always. In hiding was my highlight and i LOVED smile in the last encore.
The crowd was amazing. I had 3 people who sat in my section - 40 year old mother and he two 12-15 year old daughters.. Daddy probably grabbed them tickets and said - "Hey, this should be a good show you can go to!" but other than those 3 people EVERYONE was on feet throwing high fives and rocking real hardcore. Did some random ballroom dancing with girls i didnt even know - the music was just melting the place and the crowd into one big mess of hardcore energy.
PS: Im almost positive i heard them play Hail, Hail - tell me i didnt dream this. I dont see it on the setlist.06/23/2006 - Best night of my life.
