What's the deal with Waiting on a Friend? Did they play the whole thing? Acoustic or what? That's pretty f'ing cool that they played that, one of my favorite Stones songs.

That show was ridiculously good! Once I heard the opening notes to Throw Your Arms Around Me I went nuts!!! Highlights for me were In Hiding, SOLAT, and RITFW. And oh yea...to all the people who sat near the back of Floor 7, you guys were freakin intense!!! Also met a bunch of friendly fans who sat around me, easily making this the best show I have seen live!!!

I was in the back of Floor 7! I wasn't rocking out as much as I should have, because I was so excited I could hardly move. Also, I don't get emotional very well. But I was moving, and sun every word to every song.

I just arrived home after a LONG wet drive from PItts to NYC. What a show!!! Nice to see that the band relaxed while they were off for a few weeks..... Eddie was chatty and funny.
He mentioned about being back next year.....
I'm not one to start rumors BUT....... I believe that they will swing around and hit the east coast one more time before they end the tour..... (a girl can dream cant she??!!??!!)
Thanks for making it a great show people... my section was so much fun!!!

    See you in Cinci!!!!!

He said at least twice that he'll be seeing us again soon / can't wait to see us again / if we vote for Jason Bay they might just have to come back again next year.

They played it while seated, but not all acoustic. It sounded great. The percussion was different from the original, but the guitars were on and Ed didn't mess up the lyrics too badly. He had them on the floor in front of him.

It was a great suprise to hear. Would have loved to have heard Beast of Burden, but WOAF was a great touch!

I've now seen PJ 10 times, and each show has been better than the previous gig. That is a testament to how great they are.

They went on at 9:00, ended at 11:30.

Instead of playing Master/Slave for the opening music (as they take the stage), they played the 'twinkling' music which is at the end of the new album after Inside Job.

Unlike the first leg of the tour, they got rid of the lasers. (I wasn't a big fan anyway.) They had 3 big lights that dropped down instead. Very cool.

They started Severed Hand like they did on SNL, and not with the actual 'reverb' sounds as on the album.

WorldWide Suicide was dropped down to the end of the first set - mixing it up a bit. Nice.

First time I saw them and did not hear Given To Fly. But getting I Got Id was a great trade - Ed's guitar was awesome.

Some myron behind me was yelling "I'm a Republican - Ed, you're an idiot!" yadda yadda yadda. Uh, dude, scoreboard says PJ won that battle - you paid $51 to yell stuff the band would never, ever be able to hear. Ha ha ha, sucka!

I have an extra Pitt 06 poster if anyone wants to trade. PM me!

  • Just a quick note before heading to Cincy...

This was the 10th show and best "standard" show I've seen from them - (exluding State college '03 Neil Jam '04 and Philly '05).

Ed was drinking like a fish - finishing off the wine bottle by end of the main set. He came out with another and got about half way through it - so you'll hear on the boots Ed getting talkative as the show goes on - great / funny stuff!

Had awesome 10 club seats 3 rows back on the wings Stone's side - best view ever - though the sound is a little rough on the side like that.

Throw Your Arms Around Me was fun/beautiful - and Release as an opener - is there anything better?

Finally got I Got Shit - been waiting since 2000 to hear that again - In Hiding was great. Show had a great flow - never a down point. DTE early and WWS late was a nice change. Lucky to get SOLAT and Smile is always a treat. Of course, Waiting on a Friend was really cool/special to hear.

Oh well - hope this was the warm up for Cincy. I'm hoping they'll make up for missing in 2003.

  • This was hands down the 2nd best PJ show I've seen... topped only by BJC @ State College but again... the 3.5 hour show with a broad range of songs. But man... the setlist for this show was beautiful! Ed's voice was well rested up... I haven't heard him that good since '03. McCready was cracking me up! He's so full of energy anymore. It's like he's been reborn.

The highlight of Ed's rambles for me was when he claimed they were throwing joints up onto the stage, and then he asked if someone could throw him a lighter and about 4 lighters went flying onto the stage. Ed didn't see them, at first, but Jeff surely did and started motioning for his side of the crowd to stop! After that, Ed made the comment, "Alright alright! I think we have enough lighters!" About 30 seconds later, he realized that it was a Marlboro Light and threw it down on the ground. Absolutely hilarious!

Next time, just throw an American Spirit or two and I'm sure he'll be more than appreciative. :)

I also have to thank the two great people outside with the limo after the show. The Capt. Morgan Tatoo really hit the spot! ("I want a hug, too..." "Do I still smell like Old Spice? Or is it just straight sweat now?") I've always said that PJ fans are the best! Especially when you can walk around the arena and shout "We are..." and get a "PENN STATE!" right afterwards! haha
"... are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?"

    (State College, PA 05/03/03) (Hamilton-Ontario, 09/13/05) (E. Rutherford I, NJ 06/01/06) (Pittsburgh, PA 06/23/06) (Washington D.C. 06/22/08) (New York, NY 05/21/10) (Pittsburgh, PA 10/11/13) (Philadelphia, PA 04/29/16)
  • i just wanna say that, by far, this was the most amazing show i've ever been to. i saw pj last with the stones....i have to admit, i felt like i got the short end of the stick, since they didn't have much time....i felt like they were gone before i knew it! i feel so much better now bc they played for so long and the crowd was INSANE! i still can't speak....i think i almost died when they played smile....that's def. one of my faves!!!!!

    favorite parts:

    1)Corduroy
    2)Go
    3)Smile
    4)RITFW

*was extremely happy with his pre-opener of 'throw your arms around me'....love that one!*

i'm soooooooooooo sad it's over! i hope they come back to the 'burgh or at least state college soon! we PA people know how to show them love! the crowd interaction was nuts ---just freaking awesome! so glad eddie was talking to us...some boots he doesn't talk too much, nor do you hear too much crowd response....i cannot wait to download the boot!!!!!!

    now- countdown to storytellers....!!!!

btw-what did everyone think of the goods at the show?

I just woke up from last night show and my shoulders/neck are sore as hell and my shins are bruised from the seats in front of me.

I want to thank foxymop and the othe organizers of the pre-party because that was a great way to get my day going into pearl jam. And. The yeild wristband is fucking sweet.

The Show was incredible. Incredible. Garden was amazing and i loved I got ID. Man of the hour was a nice suprise and do the evolution shined like always. In hiding was my highlight and i LOVED smile in the last encore.

The crowd was amazing. I had 3 people who sat in my section - 40 year old mother and he two 12-15 year old daughters.. Daddy probably grabbed them tickets and said - "Hey, this should be a good show you can go to!" but other than those 3 people EVERYONE was on feet throwing high fives and rocking real hardcore. Did some random ballroom dancing with girls i didnt even know - the music was just melting the place and the crowd into one big mess of hardcore energy.

PS: Im almost positive i heard them play Hail, Hail - tell me i didnt dream this. I dont see it on the setlist.

  • Just woke up, going back to bed actually--- ears are STILL ringing, BOOYAH!

Definitly the best Pearl Jam show I've seen, and the best Pittsburgh show by far. You could tell the guys were all having fun and loving playing last night.

How about when Ed went to run off and ATE it on Stone's amp chord and unplugged his guitar and they all were laughing and scrambling to plug it back in , hahahahah NICE ONE!!!

I thought at one point I noticed an older lady on the side of the stage and Ed went over and gave her a huge hug during one song. Relative maybe? None of my business though, but she was visible, and lit up a bit during one song.

No one mentioned the all the smokes being thrown on stage, Ed said someone threw a joint up, and he said Pittsburgh would be his favorite town if he smoked a joint on stage, then said "Someone throw up a lighter" and about 10 lighters immediately went flying up--- Ed picked up a smoke and dissed someone for throwing up a Marlboro light and threw it back at them. Hah! Near the end of the entire show, Ed went up to the pile of cigs and started machine gunning them back into the crowd.

He also smashed those cymbols to holy hell last night and seemed to enjoy doing so and laughing about shooting the metal near the drums.

The guys ALL played their hearts out and you could really feel the love last night. Ed just put it ALL out there. Like he said, it was like having a brick wall in front of you and just saying fuck it and hitting the gas.

OK-- back to bed for me.

    THANK YOU PEARL JAM!

This show was awesome. Being from Cincinnati, not a big fan of the city of Pittsburgh (for obvious reasons we will not go into) but I could not have asked for better opener than Release. Halfway thru the show I said to my daughter, "I could die happy right now" I am glad I did not because the rest of the show was so great. Smile was a pleasant surprise. Diisident, well one of my all time favorites. I could go on but.....
See you at USBank Arena tonight!!!!!

you're probably thinking about the cover band "Ten" playing Hail Hail. they definitely played it at the pre-party.

This is the first time I've gone to two PJ shows in one tour and I feel blessed! I'm definitely going to try to make it to at LEAST two shows per tour! Had a great time last night, and the guy next to me was nice enough to get some good pics for me, since I'm only 5'0 and didn't really have a good angle for taking good pics. (Thanks, T!) Loved Comatose, Severed Hand and Why Go. Oh yeah almost forgot--My friend and I arrived early and enjoyed a solo by Ed before he introduced Robert Pollard. I didn't recognize the song but it was good! Also, during the performance, Robert said he needed a cigarette so Ed, nice guy that he is, brought one out for him, already lit.

Fucking Smile and an absolutely beautiful arrangement of Garden...I personally can't ask for too much more than that. Have been seeing these cats for years, unfortunately only around the Burgh/PA area, but by far...best goddamn Pittsburgh show. We were some very lucky folks last night. Amazing set and the sound was MUCH better than I've experienced in Civic (mellon) on many occasions. Talk me into it folks...a little peer pressure is all I need and my wife and I are on the road to ohio (short trip fortunately).

Yeah...Jeff and Stone did switch and Ed announced it, AND was pleased with Jeff on the six string. He held his own...but all who saw last night should fall and worship guitar god, Mike Mcready....fuck, he was on last night. Ed's harmonica was solid and beautiful to hear...he played it well, but the feeling it gave was mind-blowing. Atleast to me and the lady and hopefully many, many others.

very very close to being as good as Cleveland... crowd was great, just a notch below Cleveland I'd say... upgraded my ten club back of floor tix with a street seller to section 2, great seat, hadn't seen em that close probly since Halloween 93... took a little loss on my extra ticket but well worth it...

some nice nuggets in setlist we didn't get in Cleveland... hearing DTE so early then followed shortly thereafter by In Hiding made it special 4 me, that took vibe to another level... same w/ Garden and I got Id was killer... all the avocado songs really rocked on a high level, crowd sang a lot on those, appreciation continues to deepen for those cuts...

loved Eddie dissing Pittsburgh a little, that made me smile... but like the band, i have long enjoyed catching shows there...
cleveland had nothing on pittsburgh, and in all honesty, that was the most fired up crowd i've ever seen at a show. the break at the beginning of betterman was by far the longest. and did anyone else see matt hit himself in the head with the drumstick? he did it messing around but it was funny. and honesty, boston shouldn't get the special treatment they do, out of all the shows i've been to, we've got the best crowd. by far. i can hear it on the boots too. we need more shows!!!!!

Thanks to my gracious friend Brian (oppie1), we once again scored amazing seats in front of Mike (4th row, end). Last time we were there, we were 1st row directly in front of Mike. This show was simply awesome. Lots of 30-somethings in the first 10 or so rows which makes an old-fart like me (33) feel right at home knowing these fans were there when it all started back in the early 90's.

The only thing disturbing to me was seeing a 6-month (maybe younger) old baby up in the front with his parents. He did have headphones on but something about seeing an infant at a loud rock show didn't click with me. I'm sure Mike saw him and hence the couple got copy of the setlist. Next time, I'll bring my wife and 10-month old son to the show. Not.

Highlights for me: Smile (for Oppie1), Why Go, Garden, Release, Dissident, and State of Love and Trust.

Also, Thanks Ed for not pushing your political views in our face this time. :-)

  • I'm from the Cleveland area and it pains me to say this, but, Pittsburgh was a better show. setlist and crowd for sure. The Q has better acoustics and is newer and nicer but the Mellon wasn't too shabby either. Both shows were tremendous though. Had much better 10club seats for the burgh, probably because Cleveland was on a saturday and there were a lot of visitors in the area. I cant thank Pearl Jam enough for putting on a show like that night in and night out. What a great fucking time I had in Pittsburgh.

How was waiting on a friend? Anyone? Sounds like the Pittsburgh crowd was awesome unlike Ben Rothlesberger performance in the superbowl.(sorry I just had to get a shot in). Pittsburgh is a great city though I wouldnt put them in the Boston/Philly/NYC category just yet but they seem like they might be on my "the next, must go place to see a pearl jam show" list. Nice going Pitt.

Pittsburgh was my 12th show and is def. in my top 5.I just want to thank everyone who was in the lower sections of West Igloo 1.. I took my little brother, he's 11, and it was his first concert. Besides the drunk idiots a few rows behind us, everyone was really polite and respected the fact that he is only 4'2". During the Rockin in the Free World Jam Session, he just watched the crowd in amazement when everyone was clapping and dancing. He really got a treat for his first shows. Thanks for the great time..
