    see, this is the issue with things being taken out of context. after reading what he was reacting to, it doesn't seem to me to be something that only a criminal would say. he was saying once a special counsel is appointed to investigate a president, his presidency is ground to a halt, effectively "ending" said presidency.

    Please. He had a repub congress for two years and had he lead, could have had a ton of legislation passed. Or, had everyone involved been truthful, Team Mueller would have been finished in six months. It’s not the reaction of someone who is innocent, particularly if,

    “There was no collusion.”
    ”I don’t know any Russians.”
    ”I have nothing to hide.”
    ”I’ll sit down and talk to anyone.”
    ”We do everything by the book.”
    “Only the guilty plea the fifth.”
    “Very legal, very cool.”
    “Fully exonerated.”

    The Special Counsel was appointed to look into Russia's interference with the 2016 election. As the President, his response should have been 'hell yeah, let's get those bastards for messing with our country'. Why would he think that he personally would be f"ked if there was nothing connected to him. Why would that end his presidency?

    In another section Trump his fuming about the SC and says (paraphrased) that the investigation was not allowing him to do things with the Russians, he wanted to do things with the Russians... if I'm being generous I could attribute your interpretation to that statement. But not to considering that a cyber attack on the US should be ignored and the investigation was horrible for him. 

    And he has not to this day actually acknowledged that the Russians did what they did. 

    (I'm sure Halifax can give you the actual quote of my second paragraph, I can't go look back at the document at the moment).

    I honestly think it's possible that he was/is so ignorant as to the powers of the presidency that he thought being investigated meant he had legislative shackles on him.

    According to the report, "The President returned to the consequences of the appointment and said, 'Everyone tells me if you get one of these independent counsels it ruins your presidency. It takes years and years and I won't be able to do anything. This is the worst thing that ever happened to me.'"
