The Special Counsel was appointed to look into Russia's interference with the 2016 election. As the President, his response should have been 'hell yeah, let's get those bastards for messing with our country'. Why would he think that he personally would be f"ked if there was nothing connected to him. But not to considering that a cyber attack on the US should be ignored and the investigation was horrible for him.
And he has not to this day actually acknowledged that the Russians did what they did.
