I know I have been away for a while but I’m pretty amazed that you so quickly transitioned from dove to hawk. You were all cool with making empty deals with Cuba and Iran but on NK you are now the AMT John Bolton! He’s in the room by the way so don’t worry that there is nobody in Singapore to argue for your position...which is war I assume? Personally I like Trump’s path of engaging china, tightening sanctions, and military threats to coerce Kim Jung Un to the table followed by graciousness and potential for carrots but I suppose your war idea could work too. Also...your precious Iran deal had to be cancelled for the NK strategy to work. Iran gave up nothing and got a ton. It was a farce. North Korea needed to know that an Iran type deal is off the table.

    You are advocating for war because we are at the point of no return. North Korea missle technology is reaching the point of being able to hit the continental United States. Soon after that they will learn how to mount a nuclear warhead onto one of those missles. You know as well as I that no President can in good conscience allow this. Therefore you are left with two choices 1) Do what Trump is doing or 2) Pre-emptively strike North Korea now. The risk of option 2 is millions dead. The risk of option 1 is giving Kim legitimacy while he cheats on a deal which will then lead to a fall back on option 2. There is potential for option 1 to work...there are small signs such as hostage releases, chinese pressures, positive meetings with South Korea, internal North Korean leadership changes. All of these are baby steps for sure but they are in the right direction. You should pray it succeeds otherwise millions of dead will be the only option you will have left.

Personally I like Trump’s path of engaging china, tightening sanctions, and military threats to coerce Kim Jung Un to the table followed by graciousness and potential for carrots but I suppose your war idea could work too. Also...your precious Iran deal had to be cancelled for the NK strategy to work. Iran gave up nothing and got a ton. It was a farce. North Korea needed to know that an Iran type deal is off the table.
    Geez, I don’t even have to read half way through your post before you’re beating the war drum. Have I ever advocated for war against North Korea? And that empty nuclear deal with Iran? You mean the one they were abiding by? And what exactly has changed in North Korea, Professor? Other than being showered with praise by a US president?
    You are advocating for war because we are at the point of no return. North Korea missle technology is reaching the point of being able to hit the continental United States. Soon after that they will learn how to mount a nuclear warhead onto one of those missles. You know as well as I that no President can in good conscience allow this. Therefore you are left with two choices 1) Do what Trump is doing or 2) Pre-emptively strike North Korea now. The risk of option 2 is millions dead. The risk of option 1 is giving Kim legitimacy while he cheats on a deal which will then lead to a fall back on option 2. There is potential for option 1 to work...there are small signs such as hostage releases, chinese pressures, positive meetings with South Korea, internal North Korean leadership changes. All of these are baby steps for sure but they are in the right direction. You should pray it succeeds otherwise millions of dead will be the only option you will have left.
