    well said Kat. Unfortunately every time something like this happens the gun companies, enthusiasts and lobbyists circle their wagons and get even more defensive of their current stand.
    Well, they have a chance to do the right thing and if they don't....well, I want the powers to fix this as best they can. If regulations like stiff background checks, and/or a very serious computer database that tracks problem people is put in place because it's so complicated for all the various agencies to keep a handle on the people, I'll be ok with that. It's not only gun owners who live in America and I believe the majority of people want protections/changes.

    And by the way, I mean this with all due respect... your comment about stopping his parents from coming was ill informed (I'm being super nice). They are Afghan and during the 80's, we (Reagan) helped Afghans come here due to the fighting in their homeland. I'm sure you know that we were supplying Afghans with weapons to fight the Soviets. But I"m sure your on record for being against that back then.

    I'm pretty sure we can take out 35 year old weapons. But yes, certainly the 'enemy of enemy is my friend' concept bit us a little. Although it's pretty easy to have hindsight on something like this.

    My point is that we were financially supportive and allowed refugees into the country during this time. But GF saw this all coming so he was against it in 82.

    The overwhelming majority of Muslims and non-Muslims alike can say the same about their families. You seem very fixated on Muslims given that there are thousands of murders and mass shootings in the United States that have nothing to do with Islam, just as there are hundreds of thousands of Muslims living in the US who have never committed a violent act or been associated with a fundamentalist group.

    im just astounded that when something like this happens we go after guns instead of treating the mentally ill or vetting people more properly, but since guns shoot themselves lets take those away from law abiding citizens. I just cant wrap my head around not making individuals responsible, but instead blaming the machine. We already have gun laws on the book adding more and more to clutter up what is already there makes no damn sense

    Once again .....no one is saying take away guns from law abiding citizens.
    No one is saying get rid of the 2nd amendment.
    Its about stronger more stringent background checks.
    It's about the general public and families being more cognizant of their neighbors and family members behavior. IF YOU SEE SOMETHING SAY SOMETHING
    Its about restricting or eliminating sales of assault-military style weapons to the general public.
    And above all its about common sense.
