I dont care about vinyl

Well for The Beatles in particular, the reason I prefer them in mono is because there's several songs where vocals are isolated to one side (the lead vocal in Eleanor Rigby being the most annoying instance for me). Put all the other instruments and sounds where you want, but I want the lead vocal (and to a lesser extent, the drums) centered. Mr. Kite is another example where the lead vocal is isolated one one side in stereo. It blows. All the Beatles songs on my iPhone are in mono because of this. I can't listen to the Beatles in stereo with headphones on....at least for the albums up until The White Album.paulonious said:why is mono now better than stereo?
The Yellow Submarine "Songtrack" that was released in 1999 is interesting. It's in stereo, but a few of the songs that had vocals isolated to one side on their original stereo releases (Eleanor Rigby, Sgt. Peppers, Hey Bulldog, Nowhere Man among others) have the vocals centered but the rest of the instruments in their original stereo spots. I love it. It's as if whoever mixed that in 1999 thought to themselves "why the fuck is Paul's voice all the way over THERE on Eleanor Rigby?" Unfortunately, the stereo remasters of 2009, as awesome of the are, have the vocals where they originally were for the stereo mixes of the 60's. Bummer. But the mono albums released also in 2009 compliment them so that's cool. But in a perfect world (for me), stereo versions of Please Please Me through Magical Mystery Tour would have all the instruments as they were in their original stereo releases...but with the vocals centered like on the 1999 Yellow Submarine disc.
As for the thread topic, I also don't care about vinyl. You can say the exact same thing for digital. Format doesn't matter as much as the mastering.PJ_Soul said:
It is definitely a bummer when you get a record that doesn't sound any good just because it was poorly mastered. But oh, the ones that are done right - so amazing.0 -
When it comes to the Beatles, they did a rush job pressing the stereo version to get them out in time for the holidays. They took their time with the Mono.paulonious said:why is mono now better than stereo?

True, however, I absolutely hear the difference between CD and vinyl. It's obvious. CDs sound more crisp and sharp, vinyl sounds warmer. I prefer the warm, rich sound that only vinyl has. This IS due to the format. Even if the exact same source were used, vinyl would sound better to me.darthvedder said:

Never understood it either. A friend of mine always tells me I'm insane for thinking Gish & Siamese Dream are the Pumpkins best work. He, too, is an Adore fan. Another friend and I always joke about how this guy likes the worst albums by the best bands.paulonious said:

I was trying to forget that one... my ex-wife got it in the divorce.
Your main man Billy Corgan also released Adore as MONO only on vinyl. I honestly can't tell much difference but then again I don't have a MONO stylus.
adore is one of my least favourite records. I think the sound is probably better with the right sound system, but the money drain of vinyl would prevent me from diving in. I love music but hearing 85% of the range of the song is good enough for me.Last-12-Exit said:

I have a difficult time listening to vinyl when I go for a run. The needle keeps skipping. Guess I will go back to using my iPod.

I dont understand the phrase "warm sound of vinyl". I hear that said all the time, but have never understood the meaning. Maybe if i heard a good vinyl setup and then the same song on cd or ipod i might get it, but so far, i aint hearing it.Hugh Freaking Dillon is currently out of the office, returning sometime in the fall0

A song I've heard a thousand times on CD can sound brand new and fresh on vinyl. It becomes brighter, fuller, sometimes feels like a live listening experience.Bridge Benefit 1994, San Francisco 1995, San Diego 1995 1 & 2, Missoula 1998, Los Angeles 2000, San Diego 2000, Eddie Vedder/Beck 2/26/2002, Santa Barbara 2003, Irvine 2003, San Diego 2003, Vancouver 2005, Gorge 2005, San Diego 2006, Los Angeles 2006 1 & 2, Santa Barbara 2006, Eddie Vedder 4/10/08, Eddie Vedder 4/12/08, Eddie Vedder 4/15/08, 7/12/2008, SF 8/28/09, LA 9/30/09, LA 10/1/09, LA 10/06/09, LA 10/07/09, San Diego 10/09/09, Eddie Vedder 7/6/2011, Eddie Vedder 7/8/2011, PJ20 9/3/2011, PJ20 9/4/2011, Vancouver 9/25/2011, San Diego 11/21/13, LA 11/24/13, Ohana 9/25/21, Ohana 9/26/21, Ohana 10/1/21, EV 2/17/22, LA Forum 5/6/22, LA Forum 5/7/22, EV 10/1/22, EV 9/30/230
