You make a compelling argument. I honestly think that sometimes I get caught up in the vinyl craze, when it isn't really me. You have inspired me to stop being that person. I will be going back to digital membership, and selling what little vinyl i have. Fuck it.Last-12-Exit said:And now I have an imagine 45 that I have no clue what to do with.

When I was like 5 I couldn't learn to put the needle down correctly after a couple tries and I was banned from ever touching the equipment again. Either my dad just completely lost his patience with me or I scratched something. Or both. I don't remember.
As far as I know that ban is still in effect. Though I have no idea if the equipment even works anymore and it's not someplace easily accessible enough for me to test it.NYC 06/24/08-Auckland 11/27/09-Chch 11/29/09-Newark 05/18/10-Atlanta 09/22/12-Chicago 07/19/13-Brooklyn 10/18/13 & 10/19/13-Hartford 10/25/13-Baltimore 10/27/13-Auckland 1/17/14-GC 1/19/14-Melbourne 1/24/14-Sydney 1/26/14-Amsterdam 6/16/14 & 6/17/14-Milan 6/20/14-Berlin 6/26/14-Leeds 7/8/14-Milton Keynes 7/11/14-St. Louis 10/3/14-NYC 9/26/15

When I was a kid my mom made me put on white gloves before handling any records, and if sje caught me not using them she'd freak out (which is actually fairly insane, lol). I'm positive that that's why I now handle my records as though they are eggs with rice paper shells.Post edited by PJ_Soul onWith all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Why is it insane that your mother didn't want her child ruining her records? I find that acceptable.PJ_Soul said:When I was a kid my mom made me put on white gloves before handling any records, and if sje caught me not using them she'd freak out (which is actually fairly insane, lol). No, lol. It isn't like that. I still have to put on the gloves when I go over and handle her records. She wears them herself, lol. It's not like just the kids had to do it.Last-12-Exit said:

I treated my records very well since forever. My first album was Thriller - got it when I was 6. I still have that record, played it hundreds of times, and it is pristine. Must be because I wore gloves. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata0 -
Try listening to vinyl on an vintage tube amp, you'll know exactly what is meant as a warm sound, has a warm rich sound that you will never get out of digital!2-feign-reluctance said:More depth in sound, more warm, fuzzy feelings as a result.

I have a problem with compulsion, especially when it comes to this band. I get all jazzed up about collecting some type of item, and i get addicted to that idea. After a while, i go back into my "i hate owning so much shit" or my other "i hate being a slave to commercialism" and I sell everything. I know. It's weird. And it costs me more money than i care to admit.PJ_Soul said:

I have also bought show posters i have been to, a couple of them more than once. But then i realize i will never have the cash to frame them all, so i sell them. I have a few right now, and am once again considering selling them.
Same goes with the xmas singles. I once owned all of them but 1997, and sold them all, only to collect some of them again. It's baffling.
Yadda yadda yadda....i'm an idiot.

Honestly, dude, vinyl people are snobby about it, and will never relent. Kind of like someone who owns a 68 mustang insists it is better than any new car out there.

Ten super box, jack white inverted lightning bolt sealed, tmr vault 12 opened, and the newest vault that will be arriving in 6-8 weeks. I am going to keep my local band vinyl. Probably give away my led zep 2 and john lennon imagine and guess who live. Send tea party live in oz to a buddy who loves them. Throw backspacer in the trash. Lol. Not sure what else i have. Not much. A few jack white dead weather singles and pj xmas singles.PJ_Soul said:

my original point was I never learned how to handle the equipment. I do have a very small vinyl collection. And by very small I mean three records. One is new and just came in the mail but the other two I picked up rather inadvertently while shopping for gifts for someone else. They're being held onto by said person since I can't do anything with them. It's more aspirational than anything else, because if I can ever get my hands on the smaller old record player I'd like to have it fixed if possible. I don't see that happening though.Last-12-Exit said:I don't let my kids touch anything I don't want to break. Period

The only records I have are what I've gotten from the 10c in the past 3 or 4 years. I had 3 AC/DC records (high voltage, dirty deeds, and I can't remember the third) When I was young. I think my dad has them now. I also had the thriller album. I think that one broke. I wish I had it now just because my guess it would be worth some money.
Point is is I never fell in love with the sound of a record player. My guess is that I'm in the minority based on the responses of all of you guys and gals. When you guys say that I may not have had the right set up or a properly pressed album sounds great, I compare that to somebody that says "if it is cooked right, you'll love the taste of it." Well, I probably don't want it if it has to be "cooked right."
Does that make sense?0 -
It makes sense.
Kraft Dinner can taste like a 3course Steak meal if cooked right.
Vinyl is like wine, an acquired taste but not to overcome other flavours (listening styles)0 -
Well not to be an enabler of your compulsive collecting/selling problem, but the TMR Vault 12 interests me... only at a reasonable price though.paulonious said:

What? I wasn't being snobby. I asked because he thinks vinyl sounds worse than CDs. So I wondered if it wasn't because he was playing the records on a system that didn't do the format justice. That's not snobbery. It's science.paulonious said:Last-12-Exit said:Lol. A shitty setup? I had a record player, speakers, and records. It wasn't top of the line equipment. I'm not saying it's snobby, but as I said before using the cooking analogy, if it has to be on the right equipment I probably don't want to listen to it anyway.PJ_Soul said:

This. Listening is completely subjective. It is very hard to come up with objective ways to measure audio enjoyment.paulonious said:Ok. SOME vinyl people are snobby about it. And it isnt science. Its opinion.
