Lol. A shitty setup? I had a record player, speakers, and records. It wasn't top of the line equipment. Cds just sound clearer to me.

I have a problem with compulsion, especially when it comes to this band. I get all jazzed up about collecting some type of item, and i get addicted to that idea. After a while, i go back into my "i hate owning so much shit" or my other "i hate being a slave to commercialism" and I sell everything. I know. It's weird. And it costs me more money than i care to admit.

I have also bought show posters i have been to, a couple of them more than once. But then i realize i will never have the cash to frame them all, so i sell them. I have a few right now, and am once again considering selling them.

Same goes with the xmas singles. I once owned all of them but 1997, and sold them all, only to collect some of them again. It's baffling.

my original point was I never learned how to handle the equipment. I do have a very small vinyl collection. And by very small I mean three records. One is new and just came in the mail but the other two I picked up rather inadvertently while shopping for gifts for someone else. They're being held onto by said person since I can't do anything with them. It's more aspirational than anything else, because if I can ever get my hands on the smaller old record player I'd like to have it fixed if possible. I don't see that happening though.

The only records I have are what I've gotten from the 10c in the past 3 or 4 years. I had 3 AC/DC records (high voltage, dirty deeds, and I can't remember the third) When I was young. I think my dad has them now. I also had the thriller album. I think that one broke. I wish I had it now just because my guess it would be worth some money.

Point is is I never fell in love with the sound of a record player. My guess is that I'm in the minority based on the responses of all of you guys and gals. When you guys say that I may not have had the right set up or a properly pressed album sounds great, I compare that to somebody that says "if it is cooked right, you'll love the taste of it." Well, I probably don't want it if it has to be "cooked right."

Does that make sense?

Kraft Dinner can taste like a 3course Steak meal if cooked right.
Vinyl is like wine, an acquired taste but not to overcome other flavours (listening styles)

What? I wasn't being snobby. I asked because he thinks vinyl sounds worse than CDs. So I wondered if it wasn't because he was playing the records on a system that didn't do the format justice. That's not snobbery. It's science.

This. Listening is completely subjective. It is very hard to come up with objective ways to measure audio enjoyment.
