Jeb

Like I said, For better-or-worse, the question was for examples where Jeb differs from W.
Debating the issues themselves is out of the context of what I'm arguing, I'm just illustrating where Jeb stands, and how he's set apart from his brother.0 -

we can complain about term limits, career politicians, nepotism, name recognition over platform, how we really live under a one party system, he influence of money in politics and elections etc....and make really logical observations about the problems we face....but when it comes to reality and the immediate future - we're talking about a possible bush/Clinton ticket here...people Revert to talk of lesser evils...and saying these people should be allowed to stand on their own and prove themselves...? How can we always say that hindsight is 20/20, then ignore its lessons? Is there really no better options than hoping this bush isn't as bad as the rest of the dynasty? Or that Hilary will be more like her husband (just another war criminal), and not the hawkish nut she has proven herself to be since entering politics (on name recognition)? No change, losing hope. To Drowned Out; seeing if there's an option outside of the lesser of two evils is all the reason more to understand where these individuals stand prior to the primary elections, no?
There's other candidates worth talking about, but in a thread titled "Jeb", the main focus is going to be on Jeb Bush and his qualifications/disqualifications0 -
If it does come down to a Bush/Clinton ticket (get yer seats now!), I'll do my best to remain open and see how the usual shit unfolds. I know some about the latter, not too much about the former but at this point, strikes me as alright.
Wonder what part, if any, social media and/or technology will fit in. Much has "progressed" since the last go-around.

I hear ya mookey. The prospects within the system are usually all as dismal as the next...that's the problem. Just saying, if I was American, I would have no problem writing both of those two off on their names, and I don't think there is anything stupid or juvenile about it. Most cynics could see a Jeb run coming during gw's term (I thought it would coincide with Armageddon in 2012, but I've always been a bit paranoid
). And Hilary's run was predicted as soon as she entered politics. Despite their platforms, they're still riding coatails and walking a path paved by their family connections - the connections that ruin democracy. same with Trudeau in Canada. It's tabloid politics. Nothing will shake our system's foundations under any of these people...and most of us agree we need someone to do that. Anyway, carry on

Hedo - social media gave me hope with the rise of Ron Paul (for his foreign policy stance, and a glimmer of hope that the Internet could be a grass roots godsend). Unfortunately, the result was co-opted into the tea party - one of the final nails in the coffin for my faith in our ability to change things without catastrophe forcing it...0

Thanks for that perspective, Drowned. I don't get much of my news via that particular vein, but I think the pages we're on, views seen, digested, are similar.
And I curse the inevitable cynicism that comes with it.

Speaking of cynicism- I was thinking about all this election hoo-ha while driving through Folsom running errands today. It occurred to my that our election choices reflect what to me seems like an increasing lack of imagination on the part of the voting public. And as I thought about that I looked around at the endless strip malls along East Bidwell St. and all I saw was yet more lack of imagination. And I forget my CD case so I turned on the radio and all I heard was more lack of imagination. And all the cars everywhere looked the same and all I saw was more lack of imagination. And I came to my destination and parked in a parking lot that looked liked every other parking lot in America.
I felt like I was in a Kafka novel.

It's because people don't read Kafka anymore. They don't read Asimov, they don't read Vonnegut, or Hemingway, or Steinbeck, they don't read ANYTHING.Monkey Driven, Call this Living?0

So, are you saying I'm not a person?
Although to be completely honest, I don't read Hemingway.my small self... like a book amongst the many on a shelf0 -

Hemingway was an amazing writer but I get why some don't read him. In any case, you might want to give Old Man and the Sea a try simply for the fact that it is considered to be the closest to a perfect book ever written. Hemingway is said to have scrutinized every word in that short novel.
As for Jeb- he would have to come out with a statement saying he distances himself from his family, reads the likes of Kafka, Kapuściński and Vonnegut and listens to everything from Sun Ra to Pearl Jam before I would consider him presidentially worthy. Hey, why not?! I want my president to have a good cultural background and some smarts.

All I want is decency, integrity, intelligence, lack of need to appear "cool", and few, if any, strings attached to whomever holds the position.
Not too much to ask...is it?0 -
I want a candidate to have the balls to call bullshit explicitly , in those words, when the need arises. DO the job like you arent running for it again.Have the courage to admit when mistakes are made. Even if it comes to naught it would be refreshing for a short while.
In my view the only way we shift as a society is if a cataclysmic revolutionary event occurs. Blood will and must be shed for that to happen. Has always been thus with this country , and it shall always be so._____________________________________SIGNATURE________________________________________________

That would be great. But other than local elections, I don't see that kind of person ever running.0 -
For all the haters that hate him just because he is a republican ,I would just add he was one hell of a Gov here in Fl.Works both sides of the isle.Hes a solid dude and doesn't cave to special interest and far right nonsense.
He has always been my choice in 16.This pleases me.0 -
Anyone who bashes him because he's a "Bush" has no clue about this guy's political record thus far. I'd say he's not like his dad or his brother at all...he's pretty much himself. And he's had no problems telling other Republicans to fuck off when needed.0
