OPEN LETTER TO THE 10 CLUB & TIM BIERMAN TO CHANGE GA LINE

  • security was enforcing the stupid notebook and number thing at OKC. I had been having a blast in Dallas and didn't check in here so I was unpleasantly surprised to find that the really short GA line that I got in was about to get a whole lot longer when everyone showed up 30 minutes before the doors opened. Still, as GA goes...the crowd is fluid and you move with it. I ended up 4 rows dead center in front of Ed by the end of the night, so I can't really complain...it was just really a bummer to watch people cut in front of you in line because they knew about the list and had a lower number

I lined up in the Dallas GA line at 5:00 PM. I was about #75 or so in line. That was just a quick count I did in my head. I ended up one person off the rail right in front of Mike. So I think it worked out pretty well.

I don't know if Dallas was an anomaly, but it was freaking awesome. The venue actually moved us twice so the numbered hands came in handy when everyone had to grab all their belongings and move to where the GA entrance would eventually be. No one was pissed, everyone hung out together in line, we looked out for one another, and the people that came later were given information and the ability to sign a notebook sitting on a stool with a marker to sign and give themselves a chronological number on their hand IF THEY WANTED TO. No one was in charge of the notebook, it was just there. In fact, everyone in line encouraged one another, allowed food/bathroom/merch/ticket pick up. I know of no one that left for hours on end after getting a number and then tried to get back in line. We policed ourselves, made friends and memories, shared stories, etc. We knew the people that were there before us and the ones that came after. It wasn't rocket science. I met people from all over the world!

The Dallas GA was pretty small, so perhaps that made a difference. When we were escorted down to the floor by security, no one pushed/shoved/stampeded and I heard NO ONE complain about their position. In fact, Stone's end of the rail at the very end was EMPTY! We had kids, adults, signs, flags...it was all so very respectful and calm. A great experience. The only incident I think occurred when the venue moved the GA line around 3pm. But it got resolved without fisticuffs. All in all a great experience.
ALERT!!this woman gets it..listen to this woman..its so easy all to work just fine!!

So now you want a general admission show with reserved spots? Do you understand the concept of GA? There are no reserved spots so you can wander around the city and then magically show up at the last minute to claim your rightful spot in front of Eddie. That's not what GA is... You're describing reserved seating. You can't have it both ways.

I think you can have it both ways. The pit is a large open area where people can stand and mill around instead of having their little 2ft by 2ft box. Even at a lot of shows at smaller clubs, there's a line that forms way in advance...it just happens to be more nutso with this considering the band is much more popular than one that charges $28/advance, $32/day for a small club that can only do 2,000 people.

I bet all those fans who line up in front of the tiny clubs don't complain like we do...but it's life. People want it both ways.

IMO, if they do it both ways, they either print a 100% random number on the ticket saying "this ticket enters 15th" or do a random number that corresponds to the random drawing and the number drawn is the first in line. The number allocation system would also allow people to go to the preparties, or whatever.

My advice? If you're not on the rail, but you *are* in the pit, realize:
    1) You're in the building and everyone not in the building wishes they were.
    2) You've got a lot of people who who are in the building but wishes they were in the pit.

One thing we know about the band? They'll change the system in a few years...for better or worse.

Holy shit. Another thread on this ?

This subject is so overplayed. It's boring at this stage.

Whilst the discussion is necessary - there was a thread 'the line and list' for this to be debated?

Open letter? Why here, send it to Tenclub if its for them

I bet they can't believe that a group of adults carry on like this.

They've given us the general system and want us to work it out...perhaps they actually want us to "carry on like this" and work out the exact details.

An non-issue. Doors open at 6:30. At all the shows I went to on the East Coast, there were people still coming into GA at 7:15 who were no more than 4 or 5 rows back.

And even if you were at the back of GA, you'd stil have a great view. And a rail to rest your back on too.

Good point. I saw a few pictures (don't remember from where) and it looked like half the pit was empty! Of course, this was probably 30-40 minutes before showtime, but don't tell me that whole pit filled up like crazy in those final minutes...you can probably still get a good view and not be in line all day.

I think it's a lot of people who aren't happy being four or five back...they may be unhappy with second row.

Buffalo: I had a behind the stage ticket and went to the box office when I arrived to see if there were better tickets. The ticket dude was like, we have tickets on the floor if you don't mind standing. ?!?!?!?!?

Worcester 2: I won the 10c lottery for like the 2nd/3rd round. As far as I know, everyone who entered won. I gave my other GA ticket to a fan who got shut out.

Brooklyn 1: Only Leg 1 show I won the lottery for first time around.

Brooklyn 2: Traded my spare Brooklyn 1 for Brooklyn 2 with a super cool fan that I've traded with before in the past on Lost Dogs.

I'm not sure how this makes me a bad person but somehow you think it's an issue that I found a way to make it happen. I don't have special connections. I try to help fans out when I can, and have been fortunate to benefit from others who do the same. Sometimes from people I've helped out in the past, other times from random strangers. It's a beautiful thing.
Some of us have careers / families / other obligations that keep us from utilizing the PJ community. Shouldn’t everyone have equal access to tickets directly from PJ? So essentially you have an advantage that others do not, which was considered “unfair” in the days of F5. Back then, some people “found a way to make it happen”, they learned the website, practiced, and gained advantages over others. Some people had an issue with that, but we didn’t have special connections. It was a beautiful thing.

I have no beef with you, you exploited the current system, I actually applaud you for that. My problem is with the system and those who think it is fair. GA winner’s trade amongst GA winners, the rich get richer. The only way to keep GA tickets and be fair is to sell only singles, or print names on tickets the day of purchase. It’s just funny to see people who feel so strongly about their perception of fairness in one situation, throw it completely out the window in another nearly identical situation, all out of selfishness.
You don't know me and you have no idea what my obligations are. You are assuming you have far more than I do. If your takeaway from my post was that I have an "advantage" because I have managed to form good relationships with Pearl Jam fans, then you and I have nothing to talk about.

Yeah, that's cool. I probably showed up too late for numbering or anything but I saw numbers on people's hands. I just didn't think anything of it. The whole Dallas GA thing went really, really smooth from what I could tell.

    What I can I say? We're cool people. :D

sounds like a really nice solution would be to create signage at the GA line obvious to everyone that there is a place to sign-in for a GA number. The sign could be made with a couple of the sheets from the notebook and the sharpie.

Wow the whining and the sense of entitlement here is unbelievable. I'd just like to say Thank you 10 Club for giving me a chance at fantastic seats to the band that I adore so much. I hope those who are complaining so much will realize how good they have it, let it rest and enjoy the music!
    Looking forward to AZ tomorrow!!!

THIS kind of crap is why I will roll in to the venue at 6:30. Pearl Jam fans are a bunch of spoiled brats.

If you show up at 5am and put in your time, YOU ARE rewarded with the rail. The list didn't fuck up anyone in OKC for the people who showed up and were there all day. I showed up at 545am in OKC and got the rail and had a pleasant experience with the list. All of the people who had a major problem with the list showed up in the late afternoon at OKC.
  • the way I am used to GA working is that you get in line....and you STAY in line. You don't show up at 10am, write your name in a book and then leave for the rest of the day and jump in front of people who have been waiting for hours right before the doors open.

That's what I saw happening in OKC and THAT'S what I have a problem with. The notebook is a fan run thing...not an official 10club thing. Not everyone knew about it. This is how it is unfair, and I think this is what upset most people.

I chose to go to the preparty and line up about two hours before the show. That was my choice. Still, I was pretty happy with my place in the line....until a ton of people showed up right before the doors and jumped in line. They didn't wait like the people that were there at 5am. They put their name in a book and then left...which I have never seen done for GA before.

I don't blame tenclub...I don't blame those who waiting all day to get the rail....I don't really blame anyone. It was just a bit of a downer but now I know better for next time.

Whether or not the "notebook" thing is a good idea is kind of beside the point.

It's not about entitlement, and it has nothing to do with how many shows one's been to, if they have kids with them, or how cool everyone is with the idea. The point is that it is an idea someone started outside of the 10C or venue policies, and it seems to have been adopted as the standing rule in many cases, yet many seem to be oblivious to or able to 'benefit' from this new 'system', which simply makes it wrong and unfair. What if I show up in L.A. with my own notebook, put myself a #1, and tell ten other people about it? Are we all going to get the 10 first spots in line? NO, and rightfully not.

If it didn't come from 10C or the venue as a means of managing the crowd for a more organized entry or for safety concerns, it is garbage. If I show up early, I expect to be close. If I show up later and there's 200 people in front of me, I expect to have 200 people in front of me inside the arena. Otherwise, it's not GA as the band intended.

That's enough from me on the subject. I'm going to have a great time with my sons no matter what.

(Just don't cut in front of me, and everything will be fine. ;) )

Well put. It sucks. It's not right. It's not fair. Those that don't are to be lauded. Those that do abuse due to the list should be ashamed. Sorry that you had to sit there and watch others return in front of you due to their excuse of being on the list.
