Why would anyone have buyer's remorse? Anything that is vinyl, Pearl Jam and limited is gold. Wait til Backspacer sells out in the goods section. People will then cry they didn't buy it, saying they thought it would always be available.
I was just thinking to myself the other day: "I should probably get Backspacer while it's still available and only $20." ;)
Get it while it's a bargain. Been listening to it recently and it seems to get better with age.

agreed. once they are gone you will have to wait for a reissue. in the meantime, the price could get quite high.

Constructive feedback to PJ & Ten Club:

    Goal 1:
Make your music available to your loving fans

    Goal 2:
Cut out middlemen, sharks & ebay flippers

    Solution:
Adopt crowd funding model (a la Kickstarter) to fund production of merch, special releases, etc.

    How it would work:
PJ announces a 'project' ie Lightning Bolt Sevens Box Set. Fans get a week to fund the project. So ... fans pre-order and pay for the production of the product up front, making it easier for PJ to plan volume & other details with all the necessary vendors. If the campaign reaches "x" products sold the project is ON. This gives fans a chance to get their goods, cuts out a lot (though not all) of the icky middlemen, and allows PJ & Ten Club to plan production based on an exact number of units. Then PJ just takes a cut (whatever they deem fair) and everyone's happy. Jack White does something similar to this with the Third Man Records Vault and uses the same vinyl pressing plant (URP) as Pearl Jam, so they should be familiar with the model.

There are probably other creative ways to do this ... the goal is that Pearl Jam (the best-est band in the universe!!!) releases music (and merch) that fans enjoy/play/use/wear vs. just creating a market for collector's items.

    Sincerely,

Wow. I'm pretty happy I couldn't give two shits about this set. I buy vinyl to listen to, not to collect. What could be more annoying than an entire album sold as single tracks? Especially since I already find three tracks per side irritating. I wonder how many of you really own a set-up of high enough quality to hear the difference in a properly pressed full length LB vs the 7"s.

Anyway, it doesn't really matter. This set obviously pleased enough people for it to sell out but after over 20 pages of comments I'm still puzzled as to where the value is in it. I see it simply as a repackaged, more annoying way to listen to a record I already own (multiple copies of) with no real assurance it will sound any better. I'm not knocking 10C. They can pump out new stuff every day for all I care. I'm a capitalist dammit and hope they make shitloads. Some stuff I'll buy and some I won't. However, and this is from a dude who really loves vinyl, I think you're all a little nuts on this one.

I know it's been said, but I just want to vent more than anything.

Not impressed with how this went today. I'm not even sure I would have bought it, heard it was $80 shipped to Canada, but doing a release this way, is a bit of slap to the true fans that want their hands on the music/art.

I wonder how many bought today, and could care less about it other than the money they will make on it? A quarter?

Those folks would still buy had it been sold like The Vault was, but the true fans would have also gotten their shot to buy.

Ironically, this reminds me of what it was like buying tickets as a kid. If you didn't camp out and get in early, the scalpers got all the tickets and doubled or tripled the price.

Oh well, I will live, but don't really like the principle behind this.

this is a good idea. But, I feel like this defeats the fundamental purpose of limited editions. The whole idea is that everyone who wants one, can't get one.

Keep in mind, this is just stuff. Nothing worth getting too worked up over. If you already own a copy of LB in whatever media form, then you probably aren't missing out on anything.

what was the shipping cost for the US?

    $8.50
That made me hesitate but this was something very different than anything PJ had done before so I jumped.
I didn't want to feel the regret of loosing out.
Plus the phrases "While supplies last" & "Very Limited Edition" I took literally.

It's not that, it's that you pay to have this membership, we should all have equal opportunity to purchase. I think with Vault they accepted orders till a certain time (it was 6:00pm my time) and there was plenty of notice on the sale.

  • To everyone who doesn't get the point of a set of 45s....do some research. While it is very collectible, there is also an advantage for the audiophile out there. Vinyl pressed at 45 rpm typically has a "better" sound quality overall. The grooves are wider apart and gives the needle more space to sit in the groove. My hope is that the 45s will sound much better than the LP. Either way, it's cool release and I am glad I got in when I could. ;)

Well... in this case... all those currently angered at the EBayer can have the last laugh when the box sets go for $800 after the discovery!

    ha

and we all thought that person who bought it on the bay for $500 was a fool when really he got a steal :fp:

Got mine. Now, just waiting for the posts of those who are upset when it sells out and they didn't get theirs. Limited Edition Vinyl. You should know what that means around here by now...buy now. :corn:

Sorry to say I told you so, but 8 1/2 hours later and no surprises. Lesson to be learned for all. When Ten Club sends out an email for limited items you better act quick. I learned this lesson with the PJ20 Blu Ray. Some stuff pops up and those who are regulars on the board see it. EMAILS go out to ALL of the fan club members..many of which do not post here regularily, and thus sell out super quick. (i.e PJ20 Blu ray, PJ20 backpack, PJ Vault Vinyl, Lightning Bolt "Sevens") In each scenario people complained about the price, it then sold out, and values skyrocketed on the secondary market.

Well made analog 45 RPM vinyl is the next best thing to real to real and master tapes. It's a shame they're becoming somewhat elitist.

Come on boys, throw us a few sweet bones-- like affordable 45's packaged in simple paper sleeves. Lead the way back to great affordable analog singles and great and true sound.

Sick and tired off missing out on vinyl and having to pay arseholes on eBay for something I should have got as an analog member.

This is actually how I listened to records when I was a kid in the 60's and early 70's.

This was my first record player.

My first 7" vinyl was included with my Star Wars' Return Of The Jedi audio book.
    Those were good times.

Dude! I had one of those! The fisher price was my first record player. I used to listen to my mom's 45's of Olivia Newton John and Men at Work. To me, that picture is the greatest part of this thread. I haven't seen one in over 30 years. I could care less about missing out on the box set. I just relived my childhood by seeing that picture.

Same here. I sent an email to 10c to let them know, just in case the glitch has an impact on them seeing my order or something. Probably not an issue, but better safe than sorry.

I'll say it again but no way is this exclusive to 10c. Amazon had it available for hours before 10c. How would they know if it was just a small run 10c pressing. Now both have sold out their allocation. It going to be limited but really do you think 10c could cope with the backlash of just pressing a couple of hundred to fund their Christmas party.

What confuses me is why this was repressed fora 7 inch boxset. Its like a month since its original release. It sure looks like they planned this when each song had its own artwork. If it is properly sold out then its not really a cash grab because they cant have pressed enough to make much $. It looks like it should be sold on Black Friday although way too soon for a reissue. Maybe its the label recouping some losses from the first press or just a bid to sell more copies -i doubt they are shifting as many LB vinyl as they would like because of the problem pressing.
