I have travelled across Europe and to the US and Canada from the UK to see PJ. I have been a fan since Ten and been to 19 shows (2 bridge school), and 4 EV shows (one of them Dallas) 19 PJ but should have been nearer 30 from other times i have missed out. I tried for Worcester and both Brooklyn. When travelling from the UK to US doing 1 show and going home is a waste of time. I know some people will say you see them in Europe, so what. I want to see them in the US and know i have to try for shitty public tickets. I would partially agree with the lottery system if there was also a ten club member pre sale on ticketmaster like after the crowdsurge fiasco.
I can understand the frustration from anyone who was shut out of getting tickets. However, how anyone can deny that this new system isn't better than the old one is delusional. The old system was a free-for-all in which you had to sit at your computer, hitting the refresh button for 2 hours and then maybe you'd get lucky. To be honest, I was always able to get the tickets to the shows I wanted in this format, but it was beyond annoying and nerve wracking to have to go through it. I've had friends who've been in the 10 Club longer than I have that would get shut out using this system and it was not from a lack of effort. By the way, someone mentioned earlier on this thread that when using the old system they had put in more effort and got tickets. What effort? I'm sure there were some who bailed out of frustration when the website looked like it was crashing, but there are many others who just didn't have luck on their side. So to say that you worked harder to get tickets is a bit of a reach.
As for the new system, it does have it's flaws, but it's still much better than the old one. A person can take their time and get their finances in order and decide if the can go to certain shows or not. Plus, isn't your time more valuable to you than it would be if you had to sit in front of a computer for 2-3 hours, cursing at the screen every time you had tickets slip through your hands like it used to with the old system?
Look, it sucks not getting to tickets to see a band we all love, especially since they don't tour the US all that often. I certainly can empathize with that. What I don't understand is the whining that takes place when people don't get what they want. What about all of the shows you've seen in the past via the 10 Club? Doesn't that count for anything?
I've been a 10 Club member since 2001; however, I've been a die-hard fan since 1992. Just because I joined later doesn't mean that someone else that joined before me is a bigger fan than I am. So the idea that some of PJ's "best" fans missing some of the shows on the upcoming tour will be a detriment to the band/concert experience is absurd.
Maybe there is no perfect system. You have to figure that scalpers purposely sign up multiple accounts for the sole purpose of buying tickets. Not sure how this can be identified other than to stop accepting new members into the club. I don't see that happening though.
This.
The sense of entitlement and white girl problems in this thread are unbelievable.
I put in for one show and got it. If I had lost the lottery, I would have moved on and purchased a ticket through TM (actually, TM isn't handling my local show).
Statistically, and logically, the lottery system is more fair than the F5 system, which didn't give someone an advantage based on seniority.
I remember the U2 Zoo TV tour in 1992, when the band, in an effort to fight scalping, didn't announce when tickets would go on sale. Instead, they put them up without warning on a random day at a random time. I was calling my college campus ticket outlet every hour on the hour. Finally, I called and the woman on the other end said, "They went on sale 15 minutes ago." I ran like the wind and only managed mediocre seats for two shows n Seattle but look back at the whole experience with fondness. And they were some of the best concerts of my life.
Now, that's how you buy tickets to a rock show: No sense of entitlement, just happy to be in the same building watching my favorite band at the time.
I can't see some of you having the passion or imagination to handle that arrangement. But it made me appreciate the band even more.
Appreciate what you have.

Huh? I have a good friend from NY who has been to most of the tri-state shows for the past 15 years. He's probably been to more PJ concerts than most of the members in 10c. But he's never been in 10c. I asked him why once and he just said he's 'not into fan clubs'. It's not a money thing with him, he just doesn't do fan clubs. Too many people on here think they are the only 'real' PJ fans in the world and that everybody else is just a 'casual' fan. Man, I've read that term so much lately it's making me sick. There are more fans outside of 10c than in.

I 100% agree being in the fan club does not make one a 'bigger' fan.
However... for years it meant getting the best shot at tickets. You have to understand people's frustrations with not getting tickets.
For those who got shut out. Sorry. Honestly.. best of luck with general sale.

I am not my number. The moment I become my number, I am either enslaved or imprisoned.
I am not entitled. No matter how long or how much $ I 'invested', I already received more than I was bargaining for.
I am loyal. For as long as I will live, I will run, walk and crawl the earth in pursuit, until my body gives out.
I am happy. For all those beautiful moments I shared with friends and strangers looking up into the bright lights.
I am partly deaf, so kids protect those ears even if that 'takes away from the experience'. And last but not least...
I do feel sorry for you.

Is everybody that scored reserved seats at least seated by seniority?
Yes
Well that's cool. All things considered, the new GA seating might land me some great seats. My number is 189xxx so maybe many of the people that are usually in front of me won GA and so my reserved seats will at least be as close as they can be. And hopefully, they're on the side and not behind the pit. Side view's the best view for me.
A good friend of mine is 25,xxx. Doesn't frequent the forum. Won reserved seats to wrigley and GA tickets to Worcester. So, I would say some longtime members were rewarded by the lottery.
Fans with high numbers also seem to have won both of these shows. Which also was the case when F5 was still used. Some people win, some don't. Some go see 5 shows, some 1, or none.
I just don't think things have changed that much
Sorry for those who missed out. I managed 1 show, hartford reserved. I will be using public onsale for everything else
I think one good thing that will come out of all this is that when people are able win even one show via 10club they will be extremely happy. This sense of entitlement with many fans hopefully will be replaced by appreciation and the understanding that you may not get any shows next time around.

Entitlement is such a hack political term these days.
the true def.. right to a particular privilege or benefit, granted by law or custom
The key here is custom. We have customarily had a better experience than this.
Improvements have been promised for years. When things get worse it is somewhat shocking. We just know the 10c can do better than this, and expect nothing less than what they've done for us in the past.

Why do people feel entitled to a lottery? It was a neat experiment, but it failed. Let's move on.
And no, statistically, and logically, the lottery is not more fair. The F5 system truly gave everyone an equal chance. Some took the initiative to learn the system and gain some advantage, but all could have. In the lottery, the odds are noticeably worse. You have more people (and scalpers) submitting for every show. People got shut out of shows because people put in "prayer" entries and won, even though they never would have spent the time F5ing for those tickets. Let's not even get in to people buying multiple 10C accounts to have more chances.

What about that die hard fan 10 numbers in front of yours that lives in rural Illinois without high speed Internet, how does the f5 game benefit him? The f5 system still depended on you ISP and the speed of your computer. So if I don't have a top of the line system to by my tickets I'm not as loyal of a fan? And for all of the bitching about who didn't get what, I'm guessing most of the senior members will get in and sit in better seats than all of the Johnny come lately's to every show they put in for on the lottery. This won't stop people from touring with the band.

Minor issues that could be planned around if tickets are important to the person. Get a second job and buy a better connection, or go to a friends house, or a local coffe shop with free wi-fi. Some people see road blocks, some see minor speed bumps.
You think about it backwards, if someone found a way to enhance their chances of getting tickets.... for example by buying a new fast computer by working some OT... they obviously care more about getting the tickets than the person who takes no action try and improve their odds. That is the often missed key to why F5 was a much better system.

Earlier this year, I contacted someone at 10c about the new lottery system. She assured me that the new system was better. She explained that the old system of getting 10c tickets was being compromised but ticket brokers using computers to purchase as many tickets as possible. A day the lottery, I have very serious doubts about this new system. In the old system (mail and internet), I always received tickets for every tour. With the new lottery system, I received nothing (Worcester and Hartford). What I don't understand was why did 10c seniority play a factor in this. The longer you been with the club, your chances of getting a pair of tickets should have increased.
The lottery system fails long time 10c members and benefits new club members. It time for 10c members to voice their issues with the 10c ticketing lottery with 10c personal.
My number is in the 600,000's. Before that, It was in the 200,000's and before that under 100,000.
I got tickets? Did you get completely shut out? I think every member that tried for tickets got at least one choice. Am I wrong?

That also depends on the show or shows you are going for. If your only choice is a high demand show, and others choose lower demand shows, is that the other persons fault for not going for NYC or Seattle for example? Or that they can try for more shows they should be punished? Or people that specifically avoided high demand shows? Or avoided GA tickets since there were less of them?
And all the scalper sites do that for every show and every artist. A lot of them don't even have tickets yet, or are brokers with connections to Ticketmaster or the venue, or season ticket holders, or guessing they will have seats, etc.
...got a mind full of questions and a teacher in my soul...

I don't think the lottery was a failure. According to that surveymonkey thing, 76% of people got their first choice. Considering the low amount of tickets available.. that seems like a moderate win. The lottery system wasn't perfect, but it seemed to do a better job of trying to spread those tickets to different people, rather than have the same people get them all. I think that's a bit of a win (especially considering that the 10c gets a lot less tickets than they used to in the f5 days) and the 10c had a decent amount of success spreading out the limited quantity of tickets. I suppose the same feat could be achieved by only allowing one pair per tour, but the lottery method did allow people to get into the less popular shows and thus see multiples if they were willing to travel.
I think your other comments are more future looking. Until this tour was announced, only Wrigley had the GA setup. I think most people thought it was a one time thing. Thus I don't think the number of scalpers/10c users getting multiple memberships was too significant this time. HOWEVER this would have a huge impact for the next tour. I'm not sure that PJ can pull off the GA pit twice. Now that its common knowledge you would have to expect a number of scalpers and 10c member's to sign up their spouse's and friends to increase their odds.

However... for years it meant getting the best shot at tickets.

I keep seeing these "wah-wah" posts about how someone didn't get tickets, or how someone only got one show, or how MYM sucks. It's like get the f*ck over it already! Enough annoying complaining (about everything!) posts.

:-)
Minor issues that could be planned around if tickets are important to the person. Get a second job and buy a better connection, or go to a friends house, or a local coffe shop with free wi-fi. Some people see road blocks, some see minor speed bumps.
You think about it backwards, if someone found a way to enhance their chances of getting tickets.... for example by buying a new fast computer by working some OT... they obviously care more about getting the tickets than the person who takes no action try and improve their odds. That is the often missed key to why F5 was a much better system.
If you hate something don't you do it too.
Complaining about complaining is just as bad.

My number is in the 600,000's. Before that, It was in the 200,000's and before that under 100,000.
I got tickets? Did you get completely shut out? I think every member that tried for tickets got at least one choice. Am I wrong?
This for example, everyone knows this would be a risk of ending up with zero:
1 NY1 GA
2 NY2 GA
3 NY1 seats
4 NY2 seats
That also depends on the show or shows you are going for. If your only choice is a high demand show, and others choose lower demand shows, is that the other persons fault for not going for NYC or Seattle for example? Or that they can try for more shows they should be punished? Or people that specifically avoided high demand shows? Or avoided GA tickets since there were less of them?
And all the scalper sites do that for every show and every artist. A lot of them don't even have tickets yet, or are brokers with connections to Ticketmaster or the venue, or season ticket holders, or guessing they will have seats, etc.
