I agree except for #4 because that'll NEVER fly in this country. Instead have a waiting period of 3 weeks to get whatever gun one MUST have.

but it NEEDS to fly. no one ever thought that gay marriage would fly. no one ever thought that women voting would fly. no one ever thought that racial integration would fly. I think it can.
NO ONE, NO ONE, NO ONE needs an automatic weapon of ANY KIND. NO ONE.
Yes i know it does but this the USA and gun lovers of America won't let it happen. they say this is the start of a slippery slope of taking away our guns. Your point is well taken and it would be lovely if this could come to fruition but unfortunately some major major tragedy would have to happen with an automatic weapon for this elimination to come to an end.

and people have the right to protect their lives against bad guys,
and no we don't need new laws enforce the ones we got!
Pandora you have repeated enforce the laws that we currently have. Ok fine, I just last week looked up buying a 22 caliber smallbore rifle for target shooting at my local gun club. I'm doing so just to see if can shoot as well as I once did back 30 years on my school's rifleteam. All I needed was my credit or debit card...no background check, no waiting period, no registration etc and it'll be at my door in 6 days.
I have 2 teens both 16 and they both have a debit cards they could make the very same order. Now if you had your 16 year old son or grandson he could also make the same order would you want him to have the same capability to order this rifle? I hope to order this from here in Florida...there's absolutely NOTHING, NOTHING to ENFORCE.
What would you do with your son possibly wanting to make this rifle order?

you are right, no one does. I have often made the point that one major reason why I think the human race is completely retarded is that we have speed limits yet let people buy cars that go 200 km/h. It makes absolutely no sense. Cars should be able to go no faster than 100 km/h. If that.
not to mention designing two way traffic on a highway. that's just asking for trouble. yes, the roads were designed in the days of horse and buggy. which makes it even more imperative that it be updated. just like the second ammendment.Gimli 1993

DS1119 wrote:ComeToTX wrote:Sorry, the people that buy their guns legally and then go on rampages have ruined it for all of you. Tough shit.
I guess everyone who drives drunk, impaired, speeds, runs red lights, texts while driving, talks on their cell phone, falls asleep at the wheel, fails to pay attention, etc. and kills and/or injures someone and who buys their cars legally and obtains their driver's licenses legally have ruined it for everyone as well right?Just using your logic. I guess five people killed in a speeding accident isn't as important or socially relevant to five people killed by some random wacko? It doesn't make good press or isn't highly debatable on TV when running for office. It's just not sexy. BTW...there will be CONSIDERABLY MORE people killed by autos tomorrow not only in numbers but percentage of population. But screw those people...I want my car....I'm not riding a bus!
There will also be more people killed by noxious gases tomrrow in th US than by firearm...legal or illegal. Ban the cars and noxious gases!!!!!
Do you seriously think there is no need for gun restrictions or are you playing devil's advocate?
The amount of driving that occurs on a daily basis makes each automobile accident cosmically insignificant- not to mention that vehicles have an actual purpose in life other than killing things or shooting beer cans. They are pretty much necessary whereas guns, well, I would be so bold as to suggest they are nothing more than 'really cool toys' or worse for many.
If we were to take the opposite extreme argument, then why aren't hand grenades, land mines, and nerve gas legal as well? There must be a line somewhere. The post you responded to said the current line gets crossed way too much for responsible society's liking. The time has come- it actually did quite a while ago. Canada recognized it. A country well-known for hunting and fishing accepted gun legislation knowing full well that it was the right thing to do. We haven't looked back at that day and cursed it. The government hasn't overrun us with tyranny. Invaders have not invaded us and left us powerless to defend ourselves. And, as a positive spinoff, accidental deaths and bloody mayhem (with exceptions of course) are not a very common occurence.
Don't get me wrong... I think responsible gun ownership is a right; however, I think the current free-for-all is a recipe for disaster. And, we've seen this recipe come to fruition over and over again- and will continue to do so. I guess some just figure it's very likely not them or theirs that will end up in the crosshairs on those black moments and given this mentality... choose to gamble on 'liberty' instead of safeguarding their loved ones?"My brain's a good brain!"0 -

Hey explain how someone, not me of course, was being Narcissistic in the thread,
seeing that you brought that up...
Isn't that vanity like those with a picture of themselves as their avatars?
I have never really understood that term or the personality...
not knowing anyone like that.
But wait thats off topic... though you brought it up we better not carry that further...
I'll google I guess. Learn a little about shh-tuff or you could pm me with

CBG's got self-restraint, for sureSometimes when people feel hurt they want to hurt back, so if that's the worst thing that's said about me today, I'm still having a pretty good day. Just for the sake of clarity, since the question was asked, vanity is not the same as narcissism, however. Narcissism really has more to do with personalizing things and being easily injured. Most of us possess both qualities to a certain extent, and they're perfectly healthy...in small doses.

Unfortunately I think we'll have this issue to keep us busy for a long, long time. Just thinking about the question redrock posed in her thread about crime boggles my mind. So many factors involved, different forces at play with different types of crime...it makes me a little world weary.

Did you you see the laws in Colorado where we just had our last mass shooting that was posted earlier....do you think the CO laws are strict enough? Do you own a gun? From what I've read i don't think so yet you crusade on and on about how guns protect yet you yourself appear to not own one....walking the fence again. Practice what you preach if you don't own a gun.

Do you think that was condescending towards me, presumptuous and insulting?

Back on topic...
I heard this about a million times today on news radio...
Here in Georgia, 5 children under the age of six and their Mothers were terrorized in a home invasion
last evening by masked gunman i.e. criminals with rifles and handguns
who broke in a locked door and no they did not knock first.
In front of the tiny ones the criminals pistol whipped and roughed up the women
sending the children into terrified screams.
All the women frightened for their lives and that of their children,
as one can imagine if they try.
The criminals demanded money from the helpless victims...
thankfully the homeowner came out from another room
brandishing a gun after calling but not waiting on police
the gun and the homeowner who meant business caused
the bad guys to flee. I have not heard if they were apprehended
or if they are free to terrorize some more.
Now for those who would be willing to wait for the police,
thinking that no one need protect themselves, the tiny children or mothers...
know that the average Georgia police response time is about eleven minutes...
which is not all that different from other areas.0 -

The answer is... there is no answer. Nothing will come about... another massacre will occur... we will all be ***YAWN*** 'shocked' it has happened... AGAIN. A lot of crap tossed about... anecdotal, bullshit... bumper sticker sound bites... hot tempers... all culminating in our doing nothing about it.

Narcissistic
Symptoms of this disorder include:
Reacting to criticism with anger, shame, or humiliation... is that you know who?
Taking advantage of others to reach their own goals ... I have never had goals
Exaggerating their own importance, achievements, and talents ... no I have few of all those things
sounds like someone I know though
Imagining unrealistic fantasies of success, beauty, power, intelligence, or romance ...
I only imagine Eddiethats only a joke!
Requiring constant attention and positive reinforcement from others ... must not ...I don't get that much
Becoming jealous easily ... JB doesn't test that or I might be
Lacking empathy and disregarding the feelings of others ... think not but this fits some here
Being obsessed with oneself ... I'm obsessed with most but not myself
Pursuing mainly selfish goals ... no never selfish but maybe a martyr
Trouble keeping healthy relationships ...... married 32 yearsIts healthy and fun!
Becoming easily hurt and rejected ... yes wear my heart on my sleeve
Setting goals that are unrealistic ... not for me but maybe for others
Wanting "the best" of everything... for everyone I love
Appearing unemotional ....and I was called Histrionic... hmmmm
Now I look at that list, I see you are right that doesn't fit me at all except that I recognize when I am being humiliated
so were you so spot on to say it was not me? yes you were!
Quite a therapist indeed
Hey maybe others want to take the test so we can find out who that culprit is
you eluded to before
But the real question remains why call out another poster at all about this
on a public forum? Who does this?
Then continue to mock. What kind of personality does this? I'll have to look and see
cause we got a few of them here :fp:
and they call this a debate forum all in a days work
no not done about more gun laws though nor working towards respecting the second amendment
a right that will be very much needed in the years to come0 -

Hey... look... a Kardashian!
Good things have come out of these horrific events and changes too.
Makes me wonder what is ahead.
The Colorado shooting is bringing awareness to the
holes in laws we do have and one's not being enforced properly.
More aware of mental illness and to look and act on signs before violence.
People will prepare themselves like the Run Hide Fight video, train themselves with a plan
for public places and call upon bravery when needed to save lives.
Others will arm themselves and do so responsibly,
with the intent to stop a madman in the future.
I am not frustrated, no more than by the many other ugly things in this world.
It is a process, one to prepare and hopefully to save us all.0 -
comebackgirl wrote:You are right. That's exactly what happens...time and again. We saw a lot of changes come about after the VA Tech shootings with regard to campus safety. Notification systems were put in place, emergency operation teams frequently have active shooter drills, behavioral intervention/threat assessment teams were developed to try to identify potentially problematic behaviors. All of that and situations like the Colorado shooting still can't be prevented. As I've said, I'm really interested to know more about what the college knew and how they intervened, so that our team can learn from it, but there may be nothing more that they could actually have done. We'll talk about all of those things and make changes there, but ultimately nothing will be done with access to guns. Frustrating.
That's always our solution... guns at schools... metal detectors at schools.
We should just be searched for guns where ever we go... movies, church, Chik-A-Fil... anyplace a crazy fuck with limitless access to legally obtain weapons and ammo might show up when his fear and paranoia switches flip and he decides to do something about us scumbags who don't fit in his expectations of who we should be and what we should be doing.
America is just a place where random gun violence will occur... we just have to accept mass murder as one of our national character traits. We need to get off of our high horses and quit gasping and petending we are shocked that shit like this happens... as we sit on our asses and don't do a thing to fix it.
To quote a great American: "I hope in the future Americans are thought of as a warlike, vicious people, because I bet a lot of high schools would pick 'Americans' as their mascot."Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!
