I read that Martin was 6'2". Wouldn't have thought he was so tall based on the photographs the media has shown. Wonder how long the fight went down before a firearm was discharged. If there was a fight?

It doesn't seem like there was a "fight". At least, not a fair one.

I too am confused by the conflict of the father's statement and the recorded call, as to the boy being or not being followed. Both can't be true, and there's evidence pointing toward that he was, so....

Also, Geraldo's a fucking idiot for those (among many of his other) comments.

Not sure how it even fits in but I never of guessed he was that tall from everything I have seen.

Zimmermen didnt have no right to following Trayvon. The kid had a bag of Skittles and Ice Tea. Zimmerman is nothing but a wanna be cop. I am glad the Feds are investigating this matter. This BS needs to stop. I am also proud of my hometown team to show their support. And also to Miami-Dade school admin who allowed to students to protest today.

    Gun vs. skittles

I don't care if he's 6'2" or 7 feet tall, he wasn't gonna win that battle.

Media bias? All witnesses and evidence and the sound of the shooting itself point to Trayvon being scared shitless at the time of the shooting.

"In the police dispatch recording, Zimmerman is heard possibly calling Martin a “F—ing coon.” CNN’s Gary Tuckman reported the story on Anderson Cooper’s 360. One of the CNN’s audio engineers enhanced the police dispatch recording."

I'm Canadian, and just watched ABC Nightly News talking with African American parents who are now telling their boys not to wear hoods up, keep your hands out of your pockets,to carry goods home from the store in bags with receipts, and to not approach or walk to closely to people, and I just feel very, very sad, and very, very sorry....I live in a very diverse community and really never give such incidents much thought of happening where I live, and I couldn't imagine the pain involved for all citizens....sending much love....

I have a strange feeling this guy Zimmermen will walk from any charges. That *Stand Your Ground* seems pretty powerful down here in Florida.

This article really started me off on the wrong foot this morning. Most of the comments on the bottom disgust me.

Didn't read comments below your article but the article makes sense. Like I said, media bias.
Remember when Obama was being all racist when he called out the "white" cop who arrested the "black" professor at his own front doorstep? All Obama knew about the situation was color. He later admitted he jumped to conclusions and that it was a "teachable moment" and then had a beer summit.
Media just stirring the pot here too with one sided reporting. Most in this thread take this crap hook line and sinker.

The "Stand Your Ground" Law was not intended to protect a person that follows someone as Zimmerman did. Former Gov. Jeb Bush and the State Rep. who wrote the law, Dr. Dennis Baxley, wrote an op ed column and stated " This law does not seem to be applicable to the tragedy that happened in Sanford. “There is nothing . . . in Florida statutes that authenticates or provides for the opportunity to pursue and confront individuals, it simply protects those who would be potential victims by allowing for force to be used in self-defense.”

Florida Gov. Rick Scott has appointed a special prosecutor and the FDLE is performing and independent investigation. I hope justice and the truth will come out.

I know all of this it's just that Zimmermen and his law team will TRY and stand behind this law regardless of what it says. Even though he may have persued Martin, IMO the law is just too vague.

it's odd that clothing stiles and the way they are worn are stereotyped and cause alarm by police and ...wanna be rent a cops but that being said this type of clothing is often associated with ganster and/or thug life and young kid's good or bad were this type of clothing because it's what is in stile (it's the cool look) and this way way for a lot of different groups of people..bikers hip hop/rappers and different coltures and the more these people are involved in crimes dressed in this type of clothing it creates an image or something to look for when policing a area (stereotyping),I have been pulled over and forced to take parts off my bike that they(cops) thought could hide..what ever and they take a picture of you and start a file and I have been put on the groung with a gun aimed at me because of what I was wearing so in short if you know this going into places
then you should know that getting rousted can happen, but this bone head wanna be rent a cop crossed the line and should pay for his actions plain and simple.

    I haven't read the 15 pages but...

If you're following someone and on the phone with 911 and have a gun
why get out of the car ? If you feel threatened stay in the car and wait for the police

It's obvious he wanted street justice and wanted to take it in his own hands

He was told to stop following the kid. Even if he ignored the dispatcher and kept following
until the police came to question what was going on. I grew up in Philly
If a car was following me I would stop and ask the guy what his problem is at the age of 17
and if he came at me of course I'm gonna defend myself.

Just seems like the kid was followed and confronted so the guy could pull his gun and say "self defense"
