What concerns me is the idea that people think there will be riots if this man isn't charged or is found innocent of murder. This man is guilty no matter what happens in court, no matter the evidence presented. What if he is actually innocent of murder here? what if? maybe he acted purely out of self defense...as some claim

To me, taking a beating is still no excuse for ending a life. I honestly believe it is manslaughter and this law is written very strangely.
Eye, or in this case, ear witness testimony just isn't that reliable. I heard a woman talking about how she heard screaming...and it couldn't possible have been Barney Fife because it sounded to her like the screaming of an adolescent male, apparently. I see people of all ages all day long and I am not sure how ANYONE can tell how old a person screaming is after the age of 13...also said that the screaming stopped when the shot rang out, which in her mind proved it was Trayvon. First of all, how could she know it wasn't the neighborhood watch guy? simply by hearing screaming and then it stopping. Those are the kinds of things the media reports, people now hold as truth and that are only about 50% reliable. Just like the witness that claims to have seen martin attack Zimmerman...
There was a similar story here in Minneapolis where a man ran after a criminal he witnessed pistol whipping a woman...he told the man to stop, the man pulled on him and he put him down. The difference in these cases is that the "perp" had a gun. Unless you are 100% sure that deadly force will be used on you if you do not shoot, you should not shoot...I know skittles are killing me slowly but I don't think they could constitute deadly force.
Once those like Sharpton get involved I think many who could maybe be moved into a better state of understanding turn off...I think Rev Sharpton does more disservice than service in these situations, and if he was out for anyone but himself here he would recognize that and maybe get out of the way...The new black panther party's bounty is the same thing. Why do this publicly? why turn the goodwill and the support that trayvon's family is receiving into a cause that brings yourself publicity...
Sorry for the wall. hopefully some of it made sense. I just don't see how this story gets any better from here on out no matter what happens.

I wonder if that was one of the reasons they tested Martin instead of the shooter Zimmerman???? Also I'd like to hear what Zimmerman said to police about how the shooting went down and does that co-inside with the autopsy report of the bullet wound angle. That is if Martin was on top or above Zimmerman at the moment the shot was fired.

I just hope they get to the bottom of this and yes man does it ever take time with these investigations just to get it right.

With a single punch, Trayvon Martin decked the Neighborhood Watch volunteer who eventually shot and killed the unarmed 17-year-old, then Trayvon climbed on top of George Zimmerman and slammed his head into the sidewalk, leaving him bloody and battered, law enforcement authorities have revealed to the Orlando Sentinel.

That is the account Zimmerman gave police, and much of it has been corroborated by witnesses, authorities say. There have been no reports that a witness saw that initial punch Zimmerman told police about.

Zimmerman has not spoken publicly about what happened Feb. 26. But that night, and in later meetings, he described and re-enacted for police what he says took place.

In his version of events, he had turned around and was walking back to his SUV when Trayvon approached him from behind, the two exchanged words then Trayvon punched him in the nose, sending him to the ground, and began beating him.

Zimmerman told police he shot the teenager in self-defense.

Civil rights leaders and more than a million other people have demanded Zimmerman's arrest, calling Trayvon a victim of racial profiling and suggesting Zimmerman is a vigilante.

Trayvon was an unarmed black teenager who had committed no crime, they say, who was gunned down while walking back from a 7-Eleven with nothing more sinister than a package of Skittles and can of Arizona iced tea.

This is what the newspaper has learned about Zimmerman's account to investigators:

He said he was on his way to the grocery store when he spotted Trayvon walking through his gated community.

Trayvon was visiting his father's fiancée, who lived there. He had been suspended from school in Miami after being found with an empty marijuana baggie. Miami schools have a zero-tolerance policy for drug possession.

Police have been reluctant to provide details about their evidence.

But after the Sentinel story appeared on the newspaper's website Monday morning, City Manager Norton Bonaparte Jr. issued a news release, saying there would be an internal affairs investigation into the source of the leak and if identified, the person or people involved would be disciplined.

He did not challenge the accuracy of the information.

At a Monday news conference, Trayvon's mother, father and their lawyers called the report that their son was suspended from school because of a marijuana baggy irrelevant and needlessly hurtful.

Trayvon's father Tracy Martin, said "even in death, they are still disrespecting my son, and I feel that that's a sin."

His mother, Sybrina Fulton, said, "They killed my son and now they're trying to kill his reputation."

Supporters have held rallies in Sanford, Miami, New York and Tallahassee, calling the case a tragic miscarriage of injustice.

Civil Rights activist Rev. Al Sharpton headlined a rally in Sanford Thursday that drew an estimated 8,000 people. The Rev. Jesse Jackson on Sunday spoke at an Eatonville church, where he called Trayvon a martyr.

Zimmerman has gone into hiding. A fringe group, the New Black Panthers, have offered a $10,000 reward for his capture.

On Feb. 26, when Zimmerman first spotted Trayvon, he called police and reported a suspicious person, describing Trayvon as black, acting strangely and perhaps on drugs.

Zimmerman got out of his SUV to follow Trayvon on foot. When a dispatch employee asked Zimmerman if he was following the 17-year-old, Zimmerman said yes. The dispatcher told Zimmerman he did not need to do that.

There is about a one-minute gap during which police say they're not sure what happened.

Zimmerman told them he lost sight of Trayvon and was walking back to his SUV when Trayvon approached him from the left rear, and they exchanged words.

Trayvon asked Zimmerman if he had a problem. Zimmerman said no and reached for his cell phone, he told police. Trayvon then said, "Well, you do now" or something similar and punched Zimmerman in the nose, according to the account he gave police.

Zimmerman fell to the ground and Trayvon got on top of him and began slamming his head into the sidewalk, he told police.

    Zimmerman began yelling for help.

Several witnesses heard those cries, and there's been a dispute about whether they came from Zimmerman or Trayvon.

Lawyers for Trayvon's family say it was Trayvon, but police say their evidence indicates it was Zimmerman.

One witness, who has since talked to local television news reporters, told police he saw Zimmerman on the ground with Trayvon on top, pounding him — and was unequivocal that it was Zimmerman who was crying for help.

Zimmerman then shot Trayvon once in the chest from very close range, according to authorities.

When police arrived less than two minutes later, Zimmerman was bleeding from the nose, had a swollen lip and had bloody lacerations to the back of his head.

Paramedics gave him first aid, but said he did not need to go to the hospital. He got medical care the next day.

The Department of Justice last week opened a civil rights investigation into what happened, and Gov. Rick Scott appointed a special prosecutor, Angela Corey, the state attorney for Duval, Clay and Nassau counties.

In an interview with the Sentinel Monday, she said it is too early to say whether she would leave it to a Seminole County grand jury to decide whether to charge Zimmerman with manslaughter or some other crime, something local prosecutors had planned to do April 10.

Her two-lawyer team worked through the weekend on the case, she said, and it will take them several more days, perhaps a week, to decide how best to proceed.

She would not comment about any specific pieces of evidence, including what authorities have learned from a 16-year-old Miami girl who may have been on the phone with Trayvon as he and Zimmerman came face to face.

Benjamin Crump, one of the family's attorneys, told reporters last week that the girl told him she heard the two exchange words then a sound that she believed was Zimmerman pushing Trayvon.

Corey said her office has routinely challenged self-defense claims and will pursue charges in this case if the evidence supports it.

Sadly, who knows what actually happened... but how exactly is it "self-defense", if you willingly follow someone through the neighborhood for several minutes and an altercation happens? It wasn't like there was a struggle on this guy's property or anything, in my opinion, he (Zimmerman) went looking for trouble, and unfortunately found it in one form or another.

unfortunate for trayvon martin... devastatingly so.

seems only fair considering zimmerman carried out a hit on martin... an eye for an eye and the circle of life continues... ;)8-)
Hey now, missy! Forgive me if I'm mistaken, but I thought you were against capital punishment?

And, I'd only an "IF" to your post. So much has come to light lately that I don't feel justified anymore in my initial opinion.

    I'm open, at this point.

(by the way, it seems they're shooting for a bounty of a million now)

I understand the leader was just arrested for a different crime. Give me a second and I'll fetch the link.

    Edit: http://www.ajc.com/news/new-black-panth ... 98575.html

You know I doubt it will stop them.

Thank you for the link, paul.

Even though I know what they're about, this part sickened me - always does - any group that pulls this kind of shit.

"According to the website of the Southern Poverty Law Center, the New Black Panthers "is a virulently racist and anti-Semitic organization whose leaders have encouraged violence against whites, Jews and law enforcement officers." The group was founded in Dallas in 1989 and believes black Americans should have their own nation, according to the SPLC."

What ever happened to "if you hate something, don't you do it too"

    Hateful fuckers.

Sorry, but I think they are.

So he was suspended from school after being caught with a plastic bag with 'traces' of weed in it. They remove a kid from education/school/learning for something like that? That's messed up.

well I'm sure he knew the rules, shame on him.

    Godfather.

Perhaps if the school helped the kid out and not suspended him he would still be alive now. I mean apparently he was only staying with his dad in that area to serve out his suspension.

The school should not of suspended Martin and Zimmerman should not of left the car after the police said not to that day. Or at least follow from a distance.

Nevertheless none of that happened and we have what we have. It's really all ego and ignorance that brought about all of this. Not the law, rules, or guns.

kid has a baggie with traces of herb, what do we do to him? We don't educate him, we instead deprive him of education, we punish him, not trying to understand what's happening.

A shame alright. That's our world, quick to punish, slow to understand. Even now after the bloodshed, calls for more bloodshed, without even all the facts in, and that is a lack of education. Lack of education and ego can lead to more death. It's all a cycle, going round and round.

i dont see how the kid being suspended is any reasoning behind him being killed. shame on you godfather.

"Yu ain't tell me you swung on a bus driver," Martin's cousin wrote to him on Feb. 21.

    Truth be told.
