Wow, just reading through some of the quotes. Pretty incredible. We are probably the luckiest fans in the world, not just because of the run over the past 15 or so years, but because we got to see this group of guys play together for so long, I would even include Bernie in that group. That will absolutely never happen again in American professional sports. Just fucking incredible. My old man would have loved to see this today. I can't wait for them to retire his number. Wow, seeing Jorge cry.0

I think he did midseason last year. Would imagine 51 and 20 will both be retired this year. My guess is, and I don't agree with it, but I don't think they are going to retire 6, but my best guess is that 2, 20, 42, 46 and 51 will be retired.0 -

what about # 21?
already the unwritten rule that no player will wear that # again. might as well make it official and put it amongst the monuments.0 -

He was such an influence on those teams and the core four I agree with the 21 retirement 100 percent!!!0 -

I don't think it will. I think 6 has to be before 21 and you cant retire that many numbers from one team. So many good players to choose from. If they were going to do Paulie, I think they would have already. If you did 6 and 21 that is 7 numbers from one time period, that's more than 99% of teams probably have in their history. Have to be a little more selective. I'd put money on the ones above getting retired, that's it. Would be nice, just don't see it happening.
While it will never happen, I would be in favor of #9 being unretired. That's a weak one if you ask me. I get the significance of that year, but to retire a number because of 1 year is weak.0 -

and no disrespect to reggie, but the guy only played 4 or 5 season with the yankees. seems his # was retired based on the '77 series alone.
take a guy like paulie, close to 10 seasons as a yankee, was there when they were shitty, was there when they were winning. lifetime .290 hitter, close to 300 homeruns. he would be a far cry as a hall of famer, but there is definitely no doubting he is a top 15 yankee of all time. he was the one of the cornerstones of that dynasty. ultimate warrior.
i'd retire his number based on that catch for the final out in game 5 of the '96 series alone.0 -
if you are talking retiring 51, 20, you have to give it up for 21 as well.
throw in 6 and 46 while you are at it.
hmm, maybe the yankees will be the first team in professional sports to go to triple digits on the back of their jersey.0 -

No more Kim Jones. Is it weird to say, I'm a little disappointed. I thought she did a good job. Although I assume this means more Jack Curry, which is always a good thing.0

Those two are home grown Yankees though. I think that means something. I think 46 will get it before 21.0 -
Personally, I see 21 as a lot more likely than 6 IMO.0

Yeah, I don't think either of them are happening. I think 21 would have been done already if they were going to, especially with everyone they have coming up. He's been gone 10 years now. Crazy0 -
