Yeah, I am pretty sure it will be done next week. If not it will definitely be done by the time college football starts and football fans have a real alternative. Although I am not a big fan of college football, any port in a storm.DAL-7/5/98,10/17/00,6/9/03,11/15/13

I agree. I can't follow this nonsense. Half of what the NFL leaks about these 'negotiations' is bullshit.
Anyone that pretends to know when this is going to end is full of shit. Wake me when it's resolved. Until then I will keep making fun of the cowboys WRs :thumbup:0 -

NFL Free Agency Rumors: Cowboys, Giants Could Be Hampered By Cap Concerns
by Jason Brewer
With the NFL's free agent frenzy kicking off tomorrow at 10am, it will be an interesting time for the NFC East. With rosters expanding to 90 players, teams will be adding on average about 50 new names to their squad. Included among those are teams re-signing their own free agents, signing other veteran free agents, draft picks and undrafted rookie free agents. The Eagles and Redskins will both have upwards of $20 million in cap space to play with. The Giants and Cowboys however, are in the red.
The Cowboys are currently $13.9 million over the cap, which is the second highest number in the league, behind only the Raiders, who are unbelievably $14.9 million over. Dallas is in a tough position because not only would this make it tough to pursue top free agents, it also hampers their ability to re-sign their own key free agents like RT Doug Free, who is set to get a major pay day.
Of course, there are things Dallas can do to get under the cap. Namely, releasing veterans like Marion Barber and Roy Williams, both of whom make pretty good money that their production doesn't really justify. Getting rid of Barber would save $4.75 million while cutting Williams would save a whopping $12.9 million. So, those two moves alone would at least get them back to even. They could also let go of guys like Terence Newman, Leonard Davis and Marc Colombo and recoup another $7-8 mil in cap space. That said, the Cowboys will not likely be major players in free agency this year and their likely standard of offseason success will be whether they can retain Free.
The Giants are $6.1 million over the cap but they can get under much easier. By cutting former Eagle Shawn Andrews and his $7.5 million cap figure, the Giants are back in the black. However, they also have several major decisions to make that could force several more cuts to make room. Starting RB Ahmad Bradshaw is an unrestricted free agent that will likely demand pretty big money to keep. WR Steve Smith is a free agent and despite coming off an injury filled year, could draw interest as well. The Giants will also have to figure out what to do with Osi Umenyiora, who has publicly criticized the team about their unwillingness to give him a new contract. In fact, in the lawsuit the player filed against the owners, Umenyiora was a named plaintiff and alleged in an affidavit that the Giants lied to him about negotiating a new deal. So whether to trade him or give him a big new contract will be another major issue.
All salary cap info comes from ESPN.www.myspace.com0 -
I think the 'Boys drop Williams and Barber and restructure the contracts of Romo, Austin and Ware to free up some space to get a good cb and some new faces on the d-line.
Also, they need to make signing Doug Free a priority.
I am excited that everything will happen this week or next. I should take vacation to sit around, drink beer and watch all the transactions take place!0 -
IRVING, Texas -- Marion Barber's time with the Dallas Cowboys has finally run out.
Team owner and general manager Jerry Jones met with some players on Tuesday morning and told them not to bother reporting to training camp in San Antonio on Wednesday because they will be cut.
Barber was one of those players, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, along with wide reciever Roy Williams, Pro Bowl guard Leonard Davis and kicker Kris Brown.
Cutting Barber frees up $4.75 million in salary-cap space. It is possible tackle Marc Colombo, who also met with Jones Tuesday morning, could be added to the list in the near future. A fourth-round pick in 2005, Barber established himself as a tough runner with the ability to get in the end zone, but after signing a seven-year, $45 million deal in 2008 that included $16 million guaranteed, his production fell off.
He failed to run for 1,000 yards in any season and after scoring 33 touchdowns in his first three seasons he had just 18 in his final three seasons. He ran for a career-low 374 yards on 113 carries last season, missing three games with a calf injury. The Cowboys went with Felix Jones as their No. 1 back as 2010 went on and drafted DeMarco Murray in the third round of the April draft, making Barber expendable. Barber was scheduled to earn a $4.25 million base salary this season and a $500,000 roster bonus.
Colombo's agent, Jimmy Sexton, had told ESPNDallas.com on Tuesday morning that Colombo was being cut. A decision will have to be made quickly, however, with players reporting Wednesday.
Colombo is due a $2.6 million option bonus as well as a $1.9 million base salary and $500,000 roster bonus that would be paid out weekly during the season. By cutting Colombo, the Cowboys would save about $2.4 million in salary cap room.
It is possible the Cowboys and Colombo could reach an agreement on a re-worked contract at a lower price.
Signed in 2005 after he was cut by Chicago, where he was a first-round pick, Colombo became one of the Cowboys' best finds in the Jones' era. He took over the starter's job in 2006 and held it through last season, battling through injuries.
He missed one game last year after having knee surgery in training camp and played through an elbow injury that limited his strength. In 2009 he missed the final seven regular-season games with a fractured fibula and high ankle sprain but made it back for the playoffs, although he struggled in the divisional round loss to Minnesota.
Brown, who was viewed as a competitor to David Buehler for the kicking job, was scheduled to earn $910,000 in 2011.
Davis, who signed a seven-year deal worth $49 million in 2007 as a free agent from Arizona, started every game he played for the Cowboys and was named to the Pro Bowl in each of his first three seasons.
The move saves the Cowboys $6 million against the salary cap this year. Davis was scheduled to earn $6 million in base salary and count $9.416 against the cap in 2011.
The Cowboys have veteran Montrae Holland as a potential replacement and drafted David Arkin in the fourth round. It is possible they could look to the open market for a veteran as well.
When the Cowboys signed Davis, Jones hinted at the possibility of moving him to left tackle if needed, but Davis proved to be a dominant guard in his first few seasons. Davis, who turns 33 in September, struggled at times last year and was replaced by Holland against Tennessee but returned after Holland suffered an eye injury. Davis' play toward the end of the season was improved.
If the Cowboys end up releasing Colombo, then they will be breaking in a new right side of the line for Tony Romo. Rookie Tyron Smith is expected to start at right tackle and Holland has starter's experience but has only done so four times since coming to the Cowboys in 2008.0 -
Cowboys reportedly releasing Roy Williams today.
Wow. Nice job Jerry. We didn't need those fucking draft picks anyway.
Ooops, just saw the post above.
I am not concerned about any of these, although Leonard Davis is a little surprising. He's been pretty solid despite his issues last year, but I guess he isn't worth it with the new cap.DAL-7/5/98,10/17/00,6/9/03,11/15/13

Finally we can be over the MB3 farce, hopefully Felix Jones realized that getting fat doesn't work for running backs. Roy Williams only hurts us from the 10 yard line in. Flagg you are right I think Davis is the big loss, with the emphasis more on big than loss. I wonder how the rest of this week is going to go for us...0

I'm sure Moss would have a positive influence on Dez...part of me actually wants this to happen. I love the Cowboys, but those two together would be pure gold.0

I'm ok with the mag cover (good article articulating some issues with it here: http://www.thepostgame.com/blog/daily-t ... sand-words). it's much better than him stabbing a teammate in the neck with scissors, sexually harassing a female employee, getting caught with drugs, and any number of other things he did to screw up in the past.0
